About
HAUNTED: Halloween '86 is a brand new NES game featuring side-scrolling, platforming, beat 'em up action! Included here are two versions of the game: Spirit Exclusive and The Curse Of Possum Hollow (original). The Spirit Exclusive version features a new story and all new bosses from Spirit Halloween! Steven and Kym must relive the experiences of Donny and Tami on Halloween night in 1986. But this time, Jack the Reaper and his henchmen have taken over the town of Possum Hollow. Are you rad enough to accept the ultimate 8-bit challenge on Halloween night...again!?!?
This game is the sequel to HAUNTED: Halloween '85. It was originally released on cartridge in October of 2016, and then redesigned for release in 2025 for Spirit Halloween. It is built for the original Nintendo Entertainment System; so it follows all the rules and restrictions of the original hardware. We are releasing the game in all its pixelated, 8-bit, retro glory for your PC. The cartridge versions can be purchased online for those who still have a working NES or clone console!!

One of my favorite NES games ever made I love this game so Much good work to the makers of this game its bad ass
A worthy follow-up to the original. Enjoy, chefs! ONE MINUTE REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCEF2Dt13cA
Such a great brawler / beat 'em up! Have it on NES, but had to pick it up for steam as well. Love the setting, changing environments, boss battles, and the music. The game has a good mix of platforming with the brawler style to keep it interesting the entire time. Even though the settling is Halloween themed, you will pick this up to play anytime of the year and enjoy it just as much. Controls are easy to get used to and you unlock new abilities along the way as you progress in levels. Your new abilities can be used for both of your characters, brother and sister (you can switch on the fly). The bosses offer quite a bit of a challenge. Pay attention to their patterns and what is available on screen and you will make it through them eventually. All and all, highly recommend this game.
A little River City Ransom, some zombies, ghosts, and a whole lot of fun. This game is worth every penny. A fun retro side scrolling beat em up. I won't waste any more of your time. Just buy it.
Awesome old school NES game. Don't let my short playtime fool you. I have the NES cartridge of this as well (it is recently made and was released on cartridge as well) and have played it there a lot more. This is the exact same game running perfectly on an NES emulator. Highly recommended. If it says I received the game for free, that's because those who got the cartridge through crowd funding also received a Steam key, but I gladly paid a lot more than the Steam price for this game overall.
I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a great action platformer. It has great atmospheric 8-bit graphics that set the creepy tone along with an amazingly catchy soundtrack. Controls are tight and responsive. A cool story about a town haunted by a maniacal farmer and his minions which offer some great boss fights. You get upgrades as you progress which keeps it interesting as well as helps you along. I always get the double jump upgrade first because double jumping is just awesome! You should definitely play this 8-bit masterpiece as soon as possible.
This game is actually meant to be played on the NES, but for those who still want to explore this awesome game from brand new NES developers but don't have the ol' toaster hanging around anymore, check this one out! Old school beat up em action with an upgrade system. You can't go wrong. Also, the dev team is a super awesome bunch of guys. You can pick up a working NES cart of this if you're really interested!
I played a lot of this game at a pinball/arcade convention earlier this weekend, and just had to get the Steam version... because I don't remember where my old NES is, at the moment... This game is a phenominal return to the NES console, from the catchy 8-bit music to the feel of the platforming, and would have been a welcome addition to my childhood back in the 80s. The platform jumping is tricky, boss fights are interesting, the character switching is a great gimmick (if you can remember to do so before a surprise fast enemy sneak-attacks you from off-screen), and having played the game on an actual NES at the convention, I can't believe there is no flickering or stuttering of sprites! This is an EXCELLENT project!!
The Haunted Halloween games are really enjoyable action platformers that have combat more akin to a beat'em up. Being an authentic NES release means it's constrained to the limits of that system but they mapped your different attacks in a way that just feels right. Progressing through the game and earning new moves to add to your arsenal pushed me along, looking forward to that next flashy new maneuver. The visuals and music are pretty good, the story is solid, and I love that this includes both versions of HH '86. It definitely poses a nice challenge but the rewarding kind that isn't overly frustrating but will definitely test your skills and understanding of the games moves and mechanics. If you haven't played any of the HH games and you enjoy retro games you totally should. Highly recommend!
o ya fun
