The year is 2506. A vestige of humankind, you’ve been sent to Earth on the faint hopes that you will find more than the corpse of a once hospitable planet. Instead, you find a landscape blooming with lush, mutated new life.

This game stole assets and copied the story from another game developer. This is the original game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1537080/Return/ Not cool for indie developers to do this, please avoid this game.
Yoooo I saw this game and I thought it looked familiar pretty sure this game a ripoff I follow this dev on Twitter Thought this was his game finally coming out but yall just copying him :/ Im waiting for the real deal to come out
As a lover of pixel art games, I had a lot of fun playing Halcyon. I felt immediately drawn in by its bare, haunting sci-fi story and the game’s visual design. The silhouettes felt fresh and surprising – I loved the giant bees and praying mantises and the tone they set re: a much-changed Earrth filled with futuristic megafauna. The random spawns and layered music that queues when enemies are near kept me on my toes and deeply immersed in each area. The level of difficulty (especially the birds) was just enough to push me to learn enemy patterns without taking away from the gameplay. In sum, this was a very engaging indie title that took me roughly 2 hours to complete. I can’t wait to see where this dev goes next!
Halcyon is a very stylistic action platformer that is pretty short but nicely packed with a good variety of enemies and level themes. The game handles its atmosphere and world building very well, it manages to create an unnerving environment with its interesting and unique art style. Progression requires a lot of trial and error so do expect to die a lot, you will have to learn the mechanics or you will be punished dearly by the game. It can get frustrating at times but overall the frustration will be minimal and it can feel very rewarding to master the game's mechanics. All in all I recommend this game.
This game was made by two people I'd definitely consider to be friends, so if you wish to take that into consideration, I would advise you do so. I say this in the interest of being honest, but honestly I don't think it would taint my review all that much even if it wasn't the case. I will say this before I go into the rest of this. This game is short. It took me about an hour and 50 minutes to beat it, and that was on normal mode and with me making mistakes. The fastest speedrun of it so far is sub-10 minutes, which has been done by one of the creators of this game, I'm sure that others could do it faster but who knows. Now onto the actual review. If you like the art style and the play style of Risk of Rain, I think you will like this game a lot. It has an interesting system where the enemies generated are semi-random, so whereas at one point you may get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by an enemy that just won't relent, when you come back from that death into the same area, you might not actually encounter that enemy, that being said as you get a hang for the game, it doesn't become all that difficult to find your way around the area and beat the enemies. It is still, of course, challenging and you have to plan your moves, but you won't be desperately trying to beat the same enemy over and over. I think where this game truly shines is that slight difficulty, and the designs of the enemies. I would honestly suggest anyone try it. If you like it, you lost 3 bucks and maybe 2 hours of your life, if you like it, then I'd say it's 3 dollars well spent.
the creatures are sick. I liked the spider deer.
Played and Beat it. Aside from the difficulty balance being flawed (It's brutally hard even on Easy), I still played it through. I enjoyed it, it's pretty, and certainly made by an Audiophile. The Look is sick, the effects are pretty, and the world was simple, but cool lore. I really hope he makes a sequel with faster melee, maybe a couple guns (4 would be more than enough if so) and a little more chance to escape enemies. (I got stun-locked a lot) TLDR : Super worth the price, and I want him to make more games. Even with dying a ton, I struggled to the finale. Great Indie Buy
Halcyon is a short and fairly straightforward action platformer that has you running and gunning through the overgrown remains of a future Earth as you seek out the unknown. The game is at times pretty challenging as both common enemies and bosses alike will aggressively rush and attack you. While it took me roughly 2 hours to beat the game as I kept dying to the harder segments near the end, the game pushes you to try and breeze through the game at increasingly break neck speeds with its listed achievements. Overall, this is a first time game developed by a two man team and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys testing their skills and wants to support new developers.
I'm always inclined to support efforts of developing new games that run on older hardware. There is a vast crowd out there that is still using hardware that only has Intel integrated graphics and there's another crowd that will receive hand-me-down computers soon or will bargain their way through used computer sales. However, the game as it is right now is unplayable, and I'm not inclined to believe the issue lies with my computer in particular. I have collected screenshots that explain the issue by themselves, but I can't attach them to this review. Basically, there is nothing visible except for the main character and large white and large black polygonal areas. Some of these areas are painted on top of the main character, hiding it. Is it some texture that should have been loaded but has not? I think that what I was supposed to be seeing after the tutorial is the last screenshot in the store page. Also, another reason for me to seek games that run on older computers is that they can't rely on fancy graphics and high frame rates to impress their audience, so they usually have something uniquely interesting to them to compensate for that and attract this niche crowd of customers that are not easily swayed unlike the children that will jump into any new fad. However, the plot of this game has a disappointing opener: A computer-like artificial life form that centrally controls the mothership, as if a centrally planned economy could work! It wasn't clear for people one hundred years ago that socialism would fail because "knowledge is dispersed among the society, so the central planner lacks the knowledge to make the right decision" (Hayek) and "without a price system, the signals that coordinate production are gone and the economy collapses" (Mises), but now we have both the theory and practice that points to the aberration that is the attempt to replace the natural equilibrium that ecosystems reach (markets) with an artificial, man-made computer that will make the decisions regarding the production, just like "Project Cybersyn" of Salvador Allende, the communist president of Chile. Do you really want to write post-catastrophe fiction? How about use the current move of the world, where we are seeing the collapse of central powers (Lebanon, Sri Lanka)? Now that we have the Internet and decentralized money, people are slowly growing aware that we are on our own and the fools that expect some central power to care for them are the ones that will face hunger first for not preparing in advance. The second theme is also strange, maybe even laughable. After the collapse, a federation was formed. What does that federation solves? What is this big structure for beyond being a cost for those that are bound to it? For the people in Venezuela and Cuba, more important than making a federation is to just leave to anywhere else where they can survive, so instead of seeing people gathering (federation), we see people scattering, a dissolution of a nation, just like what has happened when people couldn't understand each other in the tower of Babel. I could move past the poor plot, but the bugs prevented a gameplay that could have compensated for it. So neither can compensate for the other. In spite of that, I'm not giving a bad review nor asking for a refund, because I laude you for at least trying when many other developers try the easy way of making addictive game for eye-candy junkies..
graphics a bit dark but after a while you get used to it and the enemies are well designed
