Why is Excalibur so OP?!
obscenely fun game with great challenge and skill expression, and genuinely entertaining story with fantastically written characters.

This game makes Supergiant Games become the spiritual successor of Blizzard Entertainment good old days, where nobody would expect less from a release than a tour de force. Since my 12 years old, I was always fascinated with Greek mythology, their gods with their virtues and vicissitudes, their defects and mistakes. In Hades, these brilliant creations from the minds of the ancient Greeks get a shape and a voice. The game also explores family relationships with depth and sensitivity, with feuds and amends. The script is brilliant: telling the story of a not-so-mentioned Greek mythology character, Zagreus, his attempts to leave the underworld, and how his relationship with Hades, his father, unfolds. As a father myself, it was impossible to not get emotional with the later parts of the story. Storytelling enlivens so much the gaming experience: so many Roguelikes and Roguelites don't even give you anything, and game mechanics without any sense of continuity make them hollow. Hades the game doesn't have this problem. Easy to learn. Hard to master. The adage of replayability, and the failure as a narrative element, eventually allowing good players to succeed, are the elements that make this game irresistible. The controls are very responsive and fluid. Each new weapon (and their different aspects) add more and more to the fun, and the difficulty system is so good and innovative. This game will be studied and discussed yet by many generations to come. I can't think of an element here I didn't like.
