Gumball Drift

It is a simple mini-world VR game and looks nice even though it is a 2016 released title. It doesn't support motion controllers, a gamepad is necessary. It has plenty of cute mini maps and nice toy car models to play with. For sure, there are similar and better games than this one. Mini Motor Racing X is one of them, much better than this one, because it is newer and has more variety and detailed. Yet, I still liked Gumball Drift too.

I can't figure out the controls to the game, there is no "controls" section in the menus either. I'm using SCP server to get my ps4 controller working on it, it basically emulates a 360 gamepad and works on every other game. EDIT: Also doesn't work with steam controller.

I'm giving Gumball Drift a recommendation but with provisions. Please read before you buy and please note I am using the HTC Vive. The premise of the game is simple and exactly what you see in the description. Playing the game however is nothing like the previous arcade racers this is baced upon but more akin to racing radio controlled cars...and it works well to a degree. The usual power ups and earn cash to unlock better cars is there. The tracks whilst basic in some respects are enough to kepp you on your toes. Visually it's basic cartoon style graphics, very much akin to games from 10 years ago but it is rendered brightly and clearly within your VR enviroment and seated or standard gameplay (or both) poses no issues. I could as much sit down to race my cars as I could stand up and walk around my play area. In fact it some cases it was preffrable to stand up and move. My only issue here was that there is no reset view, which whilst not problematic was annoying when you wanted to play seated but had to stand up (and turn my back to my PC) and move just to get a better view. Please add a reset button devs...or at least make it clear where the reset view option is if it's implemented (I could not find it). A huge bonus for this game is also the fact that the dreaded VR sickness is a complete non issue in this game. However, there are 2 big elephants in this VR room. First and formost is the lack of support for the Vives motion controllers (and I suspect future Rift Touch controllers). This could just as easily be capable of controlling the cars but the support simply isnt there. If you do not own a game pad, you cant play. The second is the price of this title. I bought it in the Steam sale and paid £8.99 (down from £14.99). This is not a £15 game in my opinion, even taking the VR part into account (so pick it up on sale). Not a bad game at all (lot of fun infact) but for the stanard price I'd recommened plenty of other games over this (at least in the case of Vive owners).

Fun game but it is buggy. I have purched the $35,000 car twice now. Only to have it Locked the next time I log in and all that cash is gone both times... Other than that is is a fun little racing game. Maybe a bit steep on the asking priced considered it is not as polished as I would have hoped. HTC Vive

I got the game on the summer sale. Nice looking, fun game. More levels and more options for cars would be great.

In general this is a cute little top down racer. I really like the idea of what it is, but... 20 € for that few amount of unpolished content? Sorry, no! If it would be * only 5-10 € * or Early Access and currently just an early alpha * or much more polished and having more content okay... but as it is currenlty sold as a finished game for that price, it's just not enough quality and content. Some details on that: * no real carreer mode, just select a track, gain money, race it again until you have enough money to buy the next track * not enough tracks in total * no details about differences of the cars * it feels like all cars drive the same at all * not enough ambience in the background, everything is just static * clunky car physics Don't get me wrong, the game is not bad. It's just not worth 20 € in the state it is.

I love these style of racers and really wanted to recommend this, however the game is very lacking and doesn't justify the price. There are some great examples of mobile games which blow this away, take wreckless racing as an example. I know this is VR, but just adding VR viewing to a basic game doesn't make it any more fun. The last track of the set showed some potential, its bigger, had some character and wasn't totally flat like all the others. The car unlocks are pointless as they don't drive any different. To unlock the tracks you will have to play the same races over and over, there isn't even a reverse mode. This is a real shame as the genre has lots of potential in VR. Get an Amiga emulator and play supercars II..... you'll have a lot more fun.

Played on a 2D screen Gumball Drift is still a fun game. While the whole game does lack depth the gameplay physics make it a lot more fun than you would first think and by the time you have played a few rounds you will be hooked (for a little while at least). But it is in VR this game really shines. With the whole track laid out like some sort of cartoon-style Scalextric set it instantly makes the game more fun! I still think this is overpriced given the lack of depth, but grab it in a sale and you will enjoy playing it. Throw in a multiplayer mode on top of that and you have yourself a good little game, provided you find it for a good little price.

Aus meiner Sicht ist das Spiel sehr schlecht. Viele schlechte Bewertungen beziehen sich auch die Multiplayer Unterstützung. Davon habe ich mich nicht abhalten lassen, da ich das Spiel sowieso nur alleine spielen wollte. Die Grafik ist erwartungsgemäß ganz nett. Aber das Fahrverhalten ist gelinde gesagt unterirdisch. Die Autos fahren sich wie Luftkissenboote - soll heißen: - Wenn man Gas wegnimmt sind sie sofort nicht mehr steuerbar und halten auch fast sofort an - Wenn man auf dem Gas bleibt, dann drehen sie sich, ohne zunächst die Richtung zu verändern (Grip? -Fehlanzeige) Die weitere Spielmotivation kann ich nicht beurteilen, weil ich im Grunde schon nach einer halben Runde genug hatte. Leider habe ich das Spiel erst einige Monate nachdem ich es gekauft habe ausprobiert und kann es daher nicht mehr zurückgeben. Ganz klar: keine Kaufempfehlung - für niemanden, weder für Simulations-, noch für Arkade-Liebhaber.

It's a cool little top down racing game. It reminds of an old racing game I use to play on my OG GameBoy as a kid (cant remember the name). I enjoy the rc car type feel of the game play and I away have (see * Real World Racing). Its simple and ease to just pick up and play. I'm also glad they went with a play house style camera ( over looking the track and not following the car ) I wish more games would do this. tho I'm sad to say It lacks polish, and feels more like a moble game I would find on the app store. Instead of playing for an hour, your more likely to play for 5 min as a brake between super hot and beat saber. I think that makes the $20 a bit hard to swallow. The sound of the game can ware on you as well, with no in game sound track all your left with is odd hummm of the cars and the monotone fireworks at the end of the race.
