It was an early October morn, and I stumbled across this game in my steam discovery queue. I was immediately drawn to the graphics, and just how vast they were, and decided to drop a measly 5 dollars, after all, when has Lincoln ever led me astray. However, immediately after installation, I sensed something was off, however, I persisted. After the background opening sequence, I immediately fell into the void. I do not know what caused this, but the sudden falling of my character spooked me quite a bit. However, I continued to persist, sitting through the sequence again. This time, everything continued as normal. I played through the game, continuously ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my pants at every jumpscare, and decided to take a break. Later that night, I awoke from my slumber, palefaced. And while I dont remember the contents of my first dream, my second was unforgettable. As I drifted back to slumber, I heard wailing, a soft scream, followed by a subtle laughter of a frightening foe. I tried jolting my head to the right, but alas, my head was unable to turn. I realized in that moment, I was experiencing sleep paralysis, my first time ever. I didnt know what to do. The sounds continued on, as an eerie figure reminiscent of some of this game's earlier enemy slowly approached my bed. Petrified, I used ever fiber of my being to move myself. I shot back awake, and was able to move again. I knew my mind was playing tricks on me, but for some reason, I think this game placed a curse on my mental. To those willing to be cursed, I would say take the plunge, but I advise you, implore you to be cautious, this game has a living lifeform inside of it. Im lucky to still be alive.
This has been interesting. You can tell its a Vidas game, but it sets itself apart from the rest of his library. The enemy and weapon designs are pretty damn cool. There was a lot of effort put into the attack animations, and this is one of Vidas older works. Sadly, it gets repetitive rather quick, as you stroll around lengthy hallways and spam mostly the same attacks on enemies with increasing health bars. I loved it
In short: Just boring. You run in one direction (each level is like a tube), sometimes (once per minute maybe) some opponent pops up, turn-based combat starts, so you click some icons (doesn´t really matter much which ones, except health/ mana if you´re low). No challenge whatsoever (played 3 levels, always the same, idling for cards now and then uninstall).
It's a unity game so if you run it and just let the launcher idle you can collect the cards without actually having to play this POS
A Captivating Adventure in the Shadows - Guardian of December Review
Guardian of December is a remarkable RPG horror game that not only lives up to the standards set by the developer's previous works, such as the Timore Horror games but also surpasses them. If you're a fan of indie horror games, this one is a must-try. The game offers a unique and immersive experience, featuring a third-person, top-view, Resident Evil-style camera perspective that works flawlessly. The controls are incredibly smooth, making movement and combat a breeze. One of the standout features of the game is its challenging and enjoyable battles, ensuring that you remain engaged throughout your journey. But what truly sets Guardian of December apart is its captivating storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to uncover the mysteries lurking in the shadows. What sets this game apart is the developer's attention to detail. The battles are not only challenging but also fun, offering a balanced experience that keeps you coming back for more. The smooth controls enhance the gameplay, making it easy to immerse yourself in the eerie world of Guardian of December. The story is well-crafted, and it's clear that the developer has put a lot of thought into the narrative, creating a sense of anticipation and intrigue. Another commendable aspect is the game's progression system. As one reviewer pointed out, the path to level 23 is straightforward and logical: Swamp, Dungeon of the Angel Slayers, Darkness Collection, Castle of the Witch, Temple, and Ice Caves in that order. This streamlined approach ensures that players can maximize their character's potential and face the challenges ahead. Despite its lower resolution, Guardian of December boasts better graphics than its predecessors, making the game a visually appealing horror experience. What truly sets this game apart is its length – it offers a more extended adventure compared to previous titles from the same developer. This allows players to immerse themselves in the game's world, making it a truly fulfilling experience. In conclusion, Guardian of December is a masterpiece by Vidas, and it represents some of his best work to date. The combination of smooth controls, challenging battles, a well-crafted storyline, and an extended gameplay experience makes this indie horror game a standout in the genre. If you're a horror game enthusiast, do not miss the opportunity to embark on this captivating adventure in the shadows. Guardian of December receives a solid 10/10 in our books.
Rewiev of Guardian Of December
Story: The story is great, I love the idea that a demon has been caged in, escapes hell, and then defends humanity. I'd love to see a more detailed backstory of the Guardian's past, or maybe what would happen after the salvation from the Devil (These could function as the "Extra stories perhaps). Graphics: While not the very best, they are very charming, and they have the classic "Glossy" quality that Vidas generally uses in his games. Suggestions: I'd suggest to maybe add some holiday decorations to the Arano Village maybe, since it's December after all. I couldn't get all helmets, so maybe make it simpler to get those last two helmets? While I bought every sword, there was still one empty unused slot left, maybe some design changes could be done there. While the Guardian had all sorts of cool attacks, I would suggest that the enemies should also have a different amount of attacks depending on their strength. Those chests with coins and EXP, I believe they chould have different colours to differentiate, and scatter these chests across the entire game instead of some few areas. The last suggestion I have is to make the level bar completely yellow once you hit the final level, instead of it appearing to be "empty". Bugs: When in first person, I found that you can see through the Gaurdians arms in some attacks. Horror: The game is generally not scary, but I got scared so bad when the creature hanged in a noose popped up on the screen in the beginning. The Dungeon of Angel Slayers was pretty scary, and so was the final "prison" realm. Comedy: Some enemies attack animations was hilarious, like the Normal skeleton, the Bear, and the frozen flesh. Music: While the newer games have so much better music, this game still has pretty good music, but from a Music theoretical point of view — there are many parts to improve. Levels: The level designs are really awesome any unique from each other, but can be a little repetitive (I mean Arano Ice Cave). My favourite levels was the Swamp and the Temple. Strategy: Don't manually heal yourself up, let the game do that itself everytime the Guardian goes down to 0 HP. The game doesn't save in the beginning, but it saves automatically once you get to the Arano Village. Final Score: 7.5/10
Cool walking simulator with RPG elements. Amazing enemy design, while some enviroments may have been more variated. Good game overall, considering it has been created by only one developer the result is intreresting, in my opinion.
