Grimoire: Manastorm, developed and published by Omniconnection, is a free-to-play multiplayer action game that blends the mechanics of a first-person shooter with the chaotic energy of magical combat. Instead of traditional firearms and explosives, players enter the battlefield as powerful wizards armed with a diverse arsenal of spells drawn from various schools of magic. The result is a competitive arena experience where lightning bolts, firestorms, ice shards, and mystical barriers replace bullets and rockets. The game’s concept immediately sets it apart from the typical shooter landscape, leaning heavily into fantasy themes while maintaining the fast pace and reflex-driven gameplay that fans of arena combat expect. The core gameplay functions similarly to classic multiplayer shooters, placing players in large, open arenas where quick movement and tactical positioning determine survival. However, the combat system revolves around casting spells rather than aiming weapons. Each wizard can equip multiple spells that function as offensive attacks, defensive abilities, or mobility tools. Players must balance these abilities carefully, managing cooldowns and timing their attacks to maximize effectiveness. While the controls are relatively straightforward, mastering the system requires understanding how different spells interact, when to push aggressively, and when to retreat or defend. The emphasis on magical abilities introduces a layer of strategy that differentiates the experience from many conventional FPS titles. One of the most distinctive aspects of the game is its class system, which is built around several magical schools that define a player’s playstyle. Each class focuses on a particular type of elemental or mystical power and comes with its own strengths, weaknesses, and tactical roles. Fire-based wizards excel at aggressive damage and explosive area attacks, often overwhelming enemies with powerful bursts of destruction. Lightning users rely on speed and precision, delivering rapid strikes that punish careless opponents. Earth magic leans toward defensive resilience and disruptive abilities, making it useful for controlling the battlefield. Other schools offer healing, crowd control, or unusual movement mechanics that allow players to approach fights creatively. Because spells can be customized within these classes, players are encouraged to experiment with different combinations to discover builds that suit their personal strategy. The game includes several modes that showcase its magical combat system. Team-based modes emphasize coordinated tactics, with players working together to capture objectives or control key areas of the map while defending against enemy assaults. Free-for-all matches deliver a more chaotic experience where every wizard fights for themselves in frantic magical duels. There is also a survival-style mode in which players battle waves of enemies, testing their endurance and teamwork as the difficulty steadily increases. These different modes help keep the gameplay varied, allowing players to enjoy both competitive and cooperative challenges depending on their preference. Progression within Grimoire: Manastorm follows the familiar structure of many free-to-play games. Players begin with limited access to certain classes and spells, but additional abilities can be unlocked through gameplay or purchased using in-game currency. As players spend more time in matches, they gradually expand their spell collection and refine their strategies. This progression system encourages experimentation and long-term engagement, since discovering new spell combinations can dramatically alter a player’s effectiveness in battle. However, because some content is gated behind purchases or grinding, progression can feel slower than in traditional paid games. Visually, the game adopts a stylized fantasy aesthetic that emphasizes magical spectacle rather than photorealism. Environments are designed to resemble mystical landscapes filled with castles, ruins, and arcane structures, providing fitting arenas for wizard duels. During combat, the screen often fills with vibrant spell effects as players unleash explosive magical attacks across the battlefield. While the graphics are somewhat modest compared to modern AAA titles, the colorful effects and energetic animations help convey the chaotic nature of magical warfare. The sound design complements the action with thunderous spell impacts, crackling elemental effects, and ambient fantasy atmosphere that enhances the overall immersion. Despite its creative premise and entertaining combat mechanics, the game does face some challenges that affect the overall experience. The most significant issue is the size of its player community. Multiplayer-focused games rely heavily on a consistent player base, and Grimoire: Manastorm has historically struggled to maintain a large population. This can make matchmaking slower or limit the variety of opponents available at certain times. Additionally, while the gameplay concept is innovative, the game’s presentation and technical polish sometimes feel limited compared to larger multiplayer titles. These factors can make it difficult for the game to maintain long-term momentum despite its strong core ideas. Even with these drawbacks, Grimoire: Manastorm remains a fascinating example of how traditional shooter mechanics can be reinvented through fantasy elements. The spell-based combat system offers a refreshing alternative to gun-focused gameplay, and the flexibility of its magical classes allows for a wide range of strategies and playstyles. Players who enjoy experimenting with abilities, mastering unconventional combat systems, and engaging in chaotic magical battles will likely find plenty to appreciate in its design. In the end, Grimoire: Manastorm stands out as a creative indie experiment that successfully merges arena shooter intensity with the imaginative potential of wizard combat. Although it may not have the production scale or massive player base of mainstream multiplayer games, its unique concept and customizable spell mechanics make it an enjoyable experience for players seeking something different from the usual competitive shooter formula. With a stronger community and continued development, it could have grown into a more prominent title, but even in its current form it offers an entertaining and distinctive magical battleground.
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
While this predates the "Steam Direct" driven surge in asset flips glutting Steam these days, it's still got all the look and feel of an asset flip... a basic PvP/botmatch arena (largely doesn't even work against bots). The usual tacticool military theme was swapped out with a spellcasting theme, but if you're looking for a Heretic/Hexen type shooter, you'll be sorely disappointed... this is a janky mess and it's a miracle it ever had players (although there are some reviews from the Russian review farm uncovered by Sentinels of the Store, so that may have something to do with it). So, "Grimoire: Manastorm" is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the Game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. The assets look a little mismatched but they're also much higher quality than the actual game. It's a bit of a red flag for an asset flip, but there's no evidence or smoking gun in this case. While there's no proof, the overall low quality of the actual "game" part (an important part of the whole package that makes up a game) is indistinguishable from an asset flip, and no matter where the assets came from, the quality here is bad .This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $20 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This product features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the product launched on Steam, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling, these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law (16 CFR § 465.2, 15 U.S.C. § 45)
All other issues aside (any of which would disqualify this from being worth your time), this is a game that relies on other players for it to be viable, and because there's not enough players, it's not viable. I can't recommend anyone downloads this, it's basically dead.
Нормас тема.
Wasn't expecting much going in, but this was a pleasant surprise. The gameplay loop is pretty solid and I had a good time figuring out the different spell combinations. It's a bit chaotic when everyone is just flinging magic around, but that's part of the fun, I guess. It’s not perfect, and it takes a little while to get the hang of things, but for a free game, it's definitely worth a download if you're looking for something to kill a few hours with.
조작감이 진짜 별로고 ESC 솔로 플레이 할 때 눌러도 일시 정지 안되고 너무 대충 만든 느낌이 많이 납니다..
