fun
찰흙같은 그래픽, 불친절한 UI, 거지같은 맵에도 불구하고 재밌는 게임
Yes. Better then the later Diablo games. Funny enough I owned this game for 10 years and never written a review for it until now.
It has took me around a decade, and 70-80 hours to finally click with this game. To be fair, ARPGs are not my bread and butter. I played The Incredible Adventures of van Helsing because... I love Van Helsing (and thought it was related to the movie). I loved it's atmosphere. I played Torchlight and enjoyed that somewhat, then tried Diablo 3, the titan of the genre and was bored to death. Somewhere in between I tried Grim Dawn, and while the setting intrigued me, the gameplay never did. Now I'm halfway through the base game (as far as I know) at Homestead. And genuinely? ARPGs are still not my thing. I just love throwing grenades, and that's what kept me going. The molotov cocktail is fantastic fun to use. But you know what else kept me hooked? The world and worldbuilding. Do not underestimate it! The world itself is a combination of victorian fantasy, steampunk fantasy, wild west fantasy and medieval fantasy. It has necromancers, knights, soldiers, victorian cities, great cannons and I saw a broken down armoured gatling wagon? Stuff like this I can appreciate immensely. I play this game because I can explore a superb post-apocalyptic world and setting. Read about it and explore it. Not because it's "the best ARPG of all time" which I've heard sometimes, and even then, this has been the most enjoyable I've played since I tried Path of Exile 2. Grim Dawn now has a special place in my heart, along side a bunch of other niche settings that I want to run TTRPGs in.
this game is perfect perfect for the guy that likes to chill after work and play a game with medium investment, get high asf turn my brain off and explore and progress
I gave this game plenty of chances but I simply can't get into it. It looks and plays well, seems great for build autists like me and I heard it has a decent endgame. However, the campaign is such a massive snoozefest, I am simply unable to reach those supposedly good parts. This game is just too slow for me. It's not the kind of pacing I expect from ARPG. I want to zoom around and blow ♥♥♥♥ up, not feel like I'm walking around with a backpack full of bricks. I'm sure plenty of people will like it more because of this, well I don't. Second, story is extremely boring. The NPCs are throwing word salads at me in a futile attempt to make me care about stuff, but by the time I was done with Act 1, I just started skipping it because it wasn't even close to interesting. I know this is an ARPG but story is a part of leveling experience for new characters, and if you can't write a truly interesting one, just stop tryharding. I don't think this game is bad, but it simply isn't for me, and not for people who care about the same stuff I do.
Cool
The campaign is too long, with too many fetch quests and an inventory overflowing with items; it is too tedious. 4/10, I do not recommend it.
Strongest aspect is the gameplay + coming up with cool combinations. The story is a background thing to give you a reason to smash things that requires quite a bit of reading to get most of it. The games ARPG system is relatively intuitive enough to get started with a good amount of depth to sink your teeth into and really make a build that feels like yours. Some QOL issues like tooltips not being clear on what scales certain abilities such as Forcewave for Soldier needing Cast Speed and not Attack Speed to use it faster. Did also find a bug on my current playthrough where a proc was not activating if I held down more than one button at a time. Researching things as you go will be a thing. Especially for tracking things like shrines to make sure you are getting all the devotion points you s/b. However, these things don't take away from the overall experience to spoil what is there. Probably best to wait for sale which happens frequently enough, especially given total price of all DLC. Base game is good to see if you would like the game on a fundamental level with the DLC adding to the experience if you find yourself enjoying it. Overall, of the current ARPGs out there, this is a top contender. It's nice to see unique games like this one in a time where most games feel more and more cookie-cutter.
