GRID Autosport is a racing game developed by Codemasters Racing and originally published by Codemasters, with Feral Interactive responsible for the Mac and Linux versions. Rather than surrounding racing with an elaborate story or open-world activities, the game concentrates on the life of a professional driver competing for different teams across multiple motorsport disciplines. This straightforward approach gives the experience a strong competitive identity, with progression built around championships, team relationships, sponsor objectives, rivals, and the gradual development of the player's racing career. The career is divided among five major disciplines: Touring, Endurance, Open-Wheel, Tuner, and Street. Each category encourages a noticeably different approach. Touring events are characterized by close racing and physical battles for position, while Endurance introduces longer contests where maintaining consistency and managing tyre wear become important. Open-Wheel events demand cleaner driving and accurate braking because the lightweight, powerful cars react quickly to mistakes. Tuner competitions emphasize controlling modified performance machines, while Street races place drivers on narrower courses where barriers and limited space increase the consequences of poor judgment. This variety helps prevent the career from becoming a simple sequence of identical races. Vehicle diversity complements the different disciplines. The selection ranges from touring and GT cars to prototypes, single-seaters, hypercars, modified vehicles, drift machines, and historic racing cars. Different categories genuinely affect how races feel because acceleration, braking behavior, grip, weight, and responsiveness vary considerably. Tuning and upgrades provide additional opportunities to adjust the experience, although GRID Autosport never becomes an overwhelmingly technical vehicle-management simulator. Its emphasis remains firmly on getting behind the wheel and competing. The handling is one of the game's strongest qualities. GRID Autosport occupies a comfortable position between accessible arcade racing and demanding simulation. Cars possess enough weight and individuality to make braking points, corner entry, throttle control, and racing lines important, but players are not expected to understand every technical detail of professional motorsport. Driving assists make the experience approachable for less experienced players, while reducing assistance can create a considerably more demanding challenge. This flexibility makes the game enjoyable with conventional controllers while still providing enough depth for players interested in more serious driving. Opponent behavior also contributes to the racing atmosphere. AI competitors can defend their positions, challenge aggressively, make mistakes, and behave differently depending on the discipline. A crowded Touring Car event consequently feels different from a high-speed Open-Wheel contest. Rivalries can make individual opponents more significant, while the teammate system reinforces the idea that the player belongs to a professional racing organization. Being able to communicate basic instructions to a teammate is not revolutionary, but it adds character to championships that might otherwise feel like purely individual competitions. GRID Autosport offers considerable environmental and event variety, with more than 100 routes across 22 locations forming the foundation of its racing calendar. Real-world circuits are mixed with street-based environments, giving players opportunities to experience both traditional circuit racing and more confined urban competition. The substantial number of configurations is particularly useful because the lengthy career repeatedly returns to established locations. Familiarity eventually develops, but differences in cars and disciplines can significantly change the way the same environment must be approached. Presentation is restrained but effective. The game prioritizes cars, circuits, racing sounds, collisions, and the sensation of speed instead of filling the experience with excessive cinematic material. Cockpit driving is available alongside other camera perspectives, helping players choose between immersion and visibility. Its graphics naturally reveal the game's age compared with modern racing releases, especially in some environmental and interior details, but the overall visual design remains functional and attractive. Vehicle models still look convincing, while busy races can create an impressive sense of movement and competition. Outside the main career, the original package included multiplayer competition, RaceNet integration, Racing Clubs, leaderboards, challenges, custom liveries, an online vehicle collection, and additional modes such as Demolition Derby. Local split-screen is another worthwhile inclusion, particularly for players interested in sharing races on the same system. Some online-oriented elements are inevitably less relevant now because GRID Autosport belongs to an older generation of racing games, but the extensive single-player content means the core experience does not depend entirely on its online ecosystem. The game's greatest weakness is repetition. Its career provides plenty of content, but quantity does not always translate into meaningful progression. Players who specialize in only one discipline may find repeated championship structures increasingly familiar, and the professional-driver framework does not offer much narrative development beyond racing objectives, teams, rivals, and advancement. Anyone expecting an elaborate story, open-world exploration, or extensive lifestyle simulation will find GRID Autosport comparatively austere. Its focus is deliberate, but that focus also defines the limits of its appeal. Another consideration is that GRID Autosport is no longer directly available for purchase through Steam. For existing owners, however, the underlying game remains an impressively substantial example of Codemasters' simcade racing philosophy. Its age is more apparent in presentation and online infrastructure than in its fundamental driving design. The combination of responsive handling, distinct racing disciplines, varied cars, challenging opponents, lengthy progression, and flexible difficulty gives it lasting value. Ultimately, GRID Autosport succeeds because it understands that different forms of motorsport should require different skills. Touring racing encourages assertiveness, Endurance rewards patience, Open-Wheel competition demands precision, and the Tuner and Street categories provide their own challenges. Instead of relying on spectacle to disguise shallow mechanics, the game builds its identity around repeated improvement behind the wheel. Its career can overstay its welcome and certain features have inevitably aged, but the actual racing remains satisfying and remarkably versatile. Codemasters Racing created a focused and content-rich racing experience that effectively bridges arcade accessibility and simulation-inspired depth. Its diverse disciplines, broad vehicle selection, competitive AI, extensive career, teammate mechanics, split-screen support, and satisfying handling outweigh its repetitive progression and aging presentation. For players who primarily care about racing rather than the activities surrounding it, GRID Autosport remains one of the stronger examples of the GRID formula. Rating: 9/10

Esperienza comunque positiva come passatempo senza troppo impegno.
Solid racing game - not taking itself too seriously but it's definitely not Need For Speed fantasy.
