TL;DR: A solid action-RPG with a modest story and a remarkably fair, satisfying progression curve. If you enjoy boss-fight loops similar to Monster Hunter but prefer smooth, incremental difficulty scaling over brutal brick walls, this is an easy recommendation. Story & Length (~8 to 11 Hours) Playtime: It took me roughly 11 hours to complete the main story while using the cheap upgrade packs ($1.20 DLCs) to bypass the campaign grind. If you skip cutscenes, expect it to be even faster (~8 hours of actual story content). The Narrative: Mediocre on paper, but emotionally impactful if you appreciate themes centered on hope and perseverance. Think of it as a bare-bones, stripped-down Final Fantasy XIV plot—it delivers the core message without the massive world building, so keep expectations modest. Gameplay & Progression: Entering the post-game at Maniac difficulty, the core loop draws clear parallels to the Monster Hunter franchise, but with a drastically better-feeling progression system. Soulslikes / Monster Hunter: Often feel like a single massive, brutal bell curve. You start out extremely weak, get one-shot by everything, and face a steep brick wall until you finally adapt or out-gear the encounter. Granblue Fantasy: Relink: Feels like a series of smaller, manageable bell curves. The game presents a tight, fair challenge. You overcome it, the difficulty steps up to the next tier, and you grind a bit to match the new benchmark. It never feels unfair or overwhelming—it stays within a very comfortable, engaging range. Rather than feeling like an absolute nobody overnight-transforming into a legendary god, the progression feels like constantly becoming a better, stronger version of yourself compared to yesterday. Final Verdict If you resonate with fair, incremental growth and punchy boss-fight loops, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is well worth your time. (Will update this review once I sink more time into the higher difficulty tiers and endgame content).
