Idealnie nie jest, ale spodziewałem się gorszego produktu. 6/10
Сложная, корявая, но затягивающая...
nice game
Niestety. Szkoda.
Максимально ГОТИЧНО!
TL;DR
The Gothic Remake is a masterpiece of worldbuilding and immersion. It faithfully recreates everything that made the original special while modernizing its gameplay, expanding its story, and bringing the Mining Colony to life like never before. Despite some jank and a lack of side quests in the later chapters, this is one of my favorite RPGs and one of the best remakes I've ever played. If you enjoy RPGs, fantasy, and immersive worlds, I highly recommend it.
Pros

Worldbuilding & Immersion
This is where Gothic Remake truly excels. Very few games create a world that feels as believable and alive as the Mining Colony. Every camp, every NPC, every piece of armor, every monster, and every quest feels intentionally placed. Nothing exists simply to fill space. Combined with Kai Rosenkranz's legendary soundtrack, I found myself getting completely immersed for hours. The developers also expanded the map with new locations while preserving the atmosphere and logic of the original world. Climbing is an excellent addition that encourages exploration, leads to hidden treasures, and is even integrated into several quests. Riding a scavenger is another welcome mechanic that adds variety without feeling out of place. You are free to explore almost every corner of the world from the beginning. The game never artificially restricts you. If you want to wander into an area filled with enemies far stronger than you, you absolutely can; you probably won't survive, but the choice is yours. That freedom makes exploration genuinely exciting. The quest design deserves special praise as well. Gothic continues to trust the player instead of relying on constant objective markers. You have to pay attention to conversations, remember directions, read notes, and figure things out yourself. Completing quests feels rewarding because the game respects your intelligence rather than holding your hand.
NPCs & World Simulation
One of Gothic's greatest strengths has always been its NPCs, and the remake improves them even further. Characters work, eat, sleep, patrol, and react naturally to events around them. They remember your actions and respond if you steal, enter private areas, or draw your weapon where you shouldn't. Animals and monsters also behave naturally instead of simply waiting for the player, making the world feel alive.
Combat & Progression
The combat system still has some jank, but it also has considerably more depth than most modern RPGs. One of Gothic's best design decisions remains the way your character actually learns to fight. As your one-handed and two-handed weapon skills improve, attacks become faster, combos become more fluid, and your animations noticeably improve. Combat evolution is reflected in gameplay instead of simply increasing damage numbers. The remake expands this system further by introducing proper combos, improved weapon handling, dodging, and blocking. Different weapon classes have unique animations, attack speeds, and fighting styles, making them feel distinct. Enemy progression is equally impressive. Monsters do not scale with your level, meaning dangerous creatures remain dangerous until you become strong enough to defeat them. Few RPGs create such a satisfying feeling of earning your power.
Story
While the original Gothic always had a memorable story, it also contained a number of rushed story beats and unexplained plot holes. The remake significantly improves upon this. Characters have more dialogue, their motivations are much clearer, and many events that previously felt abrupt are now properly developed and explained. The world feels more believable, and the narrative is far more cohesive while remaining faithful to the original.
Audio & Visual Presentation
The remake perfectly captures Gothic's atmosphere. The soundtrack blends beautifully remastered classics with excellent new compositions, while environmental sounds make exploration incredibly immersive. Visually, Alkimia understood exactly what Gothic should look like. The Mining Colony isn't a colorful fantasy paradise, it feels oppressive, dangerous, and like a giant prison surrounded by a deadly magical barrier. The forests, caves, ruined buildings, and camps all look fantastic while remaining immediately recognizable to longtime fans. Improved lighting, weather effects, and high-quality textures modernize the experience without losing the identity of the original. The Temple of the Sleeper was especially breathtaking and easily became one of the visual highlights of the game.
Cons

Jank
Despite all its improvements, Gothic is still Gothic. Occasionally the combat feels awkward, particularly in narrow spaces where the camera and movement can become frustrating. While these moments were relatively rare, they were enough to pull me out of the experience from time to time.
Crafting Skills
One aspect that left me disappointed was the implementation of some of the crafting skills. In particular, Hunting and Smithing felt underwhelming considering their cost. Spending both Learning Points and valuable ore to unlock them rarely felt worthwhile, as the rewards simply didn't justify the investment. I appreciate that the game encourages specialization, but these skills currently offer too little value compared to investing those same resources into combat or other progression paths. Unless you specifically want to role-play a certain character, I would recommend skipping them during a first playthrough. I hope Alkimia revisits these systems in future updates, because they have the potential to become much more meaningful additions to the progression system.
Lack of Side Quests
This is probably my biggest criticism. The quests themselves are excellent, but there simply aren't enough of them after the second to third chapter. Once the game opens up early on, it gradually becomes much more linear, with relatively few optional quests appearing alongside the main story. I would have loved more opportunities to spend time in this incredible world before the finale.
Conclusion
The Gothic Remake is exactly what a remake should be. It modernizes a beloved classic without sacrificing its identity. The developers respected the original while improving nearly every aspect of it: from combat and storytelling to exploration, world simulation, and presentation. Its flaws are real, but none of them significantly diminish the overall experience. The immersive world, memorable characters, meaningful progression, rewarding exploration, and exceptional atmosphere more than make up for its occasional rough edges. For me, this wasn't just a nostalgic return to the prison colony I explored as a child. It became one of my favourite gaming experiences as an adult and reminded me why Gothic has remained so special for over two decades. Thank you, Alkimia Interactive, for giving Gothic the remake it deserved.
