THE BEST GAME IN THE UNIVERSE
THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! (would recommend it)
I've had this game since it came out on oculus in late 2021 (I got my Rift S in November so it would've been around then) and while, yes, it's the most unique locomotion system in VR as of late, it set a bad precedent for mainstream VR. One, releasing the original source code for the movement publicly resulted in a wave of shovelware vr games, where it's clear that all someone did was make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ map, add basic netcode, and import the files, and all of a sudden you have a subpar gorilla tag "fan game" that immediately gets released on itch.io and the quest store. Take a look at the most popular free games on quest, and it's clear that they're all clones of each other. Two, the community of mainstream VR has been taken over by young kids that shouldn't be on VR in the first place (Oculus is still 13+ I believe, and the only exception to this was Rec Room and that was just because it was on PSVR, which is all ages.) Try and join any lobby in Gorilla Tag, and it's clear no one inside it is over the age of 12. In my opinion, this hurt the perception of VR, because all of the sudden the ones making content on VR (major youtubers, enthusiasts) were replaced by low effort kids that weren't even old enough to have a YouTube account. Literally ask anyone you know who occasionally has heard of VR, and they will think that the only real games on VR are VRChat (which is a whole issue in itself) and Gorilla Tag. No one is trying to innovate, no one is trying to be original, everyone is just trying to become the next hit gorilla tag clone, and it shows. Look at the current Gorilla Tag content on tiktok/youtube, and it's just brainrot. It's like they're stuck in 2020, they copy the video styles of people from half a decade ago, talk super fast because their audience (Kids) don't have the attention span to listen to them talk normally, and overall just have no idea what they're talking about. VR is never going to get better if games like this (and the billion other clones that are nearly as popular) are going to continually get shoved into our faces.
it is peak :)
got walksim so i could play with vr! very fun indeed! worth the twenty bucks to see people going crazy over the fact i can play without vr.
