Golden Rails: World's Fair
Casual game of 2022. Your city's mayor needs your help to host a world fair! Roll up your sleeves! Because there is a lot to do. Repair rusty rails, lay new rails so visitors and townspeople can reach the exhibition and see the dawn of the electricity age for themselves, and fight backhanded bandits who want to thwart your plans! At the same time, you must put out fires, rebuild destroyed settlements, establish trade routes by land and sea, and find time to prepare for the greatest exhibition in the world! (Editor) This is a collecting game that does everything a bit differently than other game series of this type. It starts with the nice story and runs through the whole game. Just good gameplay. Of course you have to collect as much as you can here, but keep it within a logical framework without pointless more, more, more. In particular, the varied management of your workforce makes it a strategy game at a high level of difficulty. Again, there are a couple of good little innovations that lead to many hours of fun. What bothers me in this game is that the cards are often used several times in whole or in part. Although with a different assembly, but well, it's a bit unimaginative. It doesn't affect the game and it's understandable given the small cards. Quite tricky but never too difficult. My fun recommendation has it. Another fine entry in the series. Nothing new here, but the game is better balanced: for once, no grinding is required for the achievements. If you play each level exactly once, you will unlock all achievements. What I especially like about this series is that you have the same pool of people who either run around the map or who work in buildings for you. So if you have 3 guys running around the map, then they build a sawmill, you can stick one guy in the mill and have two guys left to run around, or you can stick two guys in the mill and have one guy doing the typical time-management chores ( filling holes, removing debris, and so forth.) It's polished, has no bugs and the music is pleasant. A solid thumbs up!
This is another successful entry for this franchise. Although there is nothing really new, it still offers some decent challenges when playing in expert mode and strategy does always play a part in these games which always makes them interesting. You do have to wait quite a bit for bonuses, as there is no purchasing of them this time and there are still the owls to be found (ugh!) However, that aside, there are a couple of new elements (limestone and light bulbs) added this time and the building of the exhibition was well thought out. These people really focus on their games and they must truly love what they do because they have 8 different series. I just wish they tested a bit better because the last two Golden Rails had problems with achievements not crossing over to Steam. In this game, it is The Rivers achievement, and as of this writing has not been corrected, except for a file download. You may want to wait to purchase until they have a new version available, but by all means, buy the game when it is. P.S. - I'm still hopefully waiting for another Looking for Aliens! The difficulties with the River achievement is in the community discussion thread
Super Spiel! Fazit: kaufen, kaufen, kaufen! :-)
Golden Rails: World's Fair is a time management game developed by Yustas Games Studio and published by Alawar Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the Golden Rails series. Like in the previous installments, we follow the siblings Jack and Jill, and this time, they're invited by the mayor of their hometown to help out with the World's Fair, an exhibition where people from all around the world will attend. Of course, Jack and Jill accept and help out the mayor as the Wild West moves on to the age of electricity. However, no task comes without its obstacles, and there are bandits who want to stop the exhibition from happening. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. As for the gameplay, it's pretty much the same as in the previous games. You can choose among the usual three difficulty levels: relaxed, normal, or expert. (For purposes of this review, I chose to play on normal mode.) There are a total of 60 levels, which includes both main story and bonus story. In the levels, you're given a number of tasks, such as constructing the railroad, loading cargo onto trains, and building homes. Assuming that you play in timed mode, you can earn up to 3 stars per level. Also, there are 5 mini-games which involve shooting bandits, again which you can earn a maximum of 3 stars. Stars can be used to purchase exhibition items, which are solely for cosmetic purposes. As this is a collector's edition, there are the usual items like downloadable wallpapers, strategy guide, etc. In addition, the usual Steam achievements/in-game trophies are present although there are no Steam trading cards at the time of this review. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. Ever since the first Golden Rails came out, I've enjoyed this series. It keeps getting better with every installment, and this one is no exception. I liked getting to follow Jack and Jill to their hometown, and although we're still mainly in the Wild West, there are more city areas in some levels, which is a nice change of pace. Of course, there are the usual villains and there's even a twist in regards to one of the NPCs who helps out the siblings as they're constructing the railroad and helping out with the exhibition. In regards to the gameplay, I found it very smooth, not experiencing any technical issues. (I read that there was an issue with a couple of the achievements not unlocking, but the devs have since fixed it.) Although a lot of the gameplay is the same as in previous games, there are a couple of new elements. For example, coal is introduced, which is needed to construct stoves for residents' homes. Also, in the bonus levels, limestone and electric bulbs are produced, the latter clearly indicating that the Wild West is ready to move onto electricity. It feels very much like what happened in the US back in the mid to late 1800s. Regarding the art style, it's the same as in the previous games, so there's nothing new to add there. However, the animated 2D cutscenes are beautiful to gaze at, and I especially liked the animation of the bandits on horses during the shooting mini-games. (The mini-games have slightly changed from those of the previous games as well since they feel more animated and alive in addition to the absence of ducks to shoot and the introduction of horses that the bandits ride on.) Finally, in regards to the soundtrack, the tracks are the same as in the previous games, so like the art, there's nothing new to comment. The tracks fit well with the Wild West theme, so I suppose if it works, there's no reason to change it. XD Overall, would I recommend Golden Rails: World's Fair? If you like time management games and are especially a fan of the Golden Rails series, then you'll definitely want to pick up this latest installment. It's a great addition and for the asking price, it's well worth it, as it took me around 9 hours to 100% complete the game. As always, you can wait to get it on a sale, and it's in a couple of Steam bundles, so if you already have the other games in them, then you'll get a good bargain. ^^
Flying free and writing reviews solely for The Introverted Gamer.
Golden Rails: World’s Fair
immer wieder super Zeitmanagementspiele hab mit diesem Spiel alle Teile, man bekommt sogar noch ein Rabatt wenn man welche hat,was will man mehr
Uh, it was OK. Nothing "wow" about it. If you played the first three, you should have few if any difficulties. Playing in hard mode (there are two easier ones), there was very little strategy required, at least in the initial levels. Basically, you're building up Wild West-style townships, disposing of crooks, building a fairground and interacting with trains, all within a level's time frame of around 3-7 minutes, more or less. You can adjust music, sound fx, and shut off the tutorial hints. The only thing I found worthwhile in the CE is the extra levels. X-nay the muzak, level guides and (gag me with a spoon) wallpapers. An owl is "hidden" on every level One thing that did intrigue me are the subtle references to other Alawar games. Hints of Rescue Team,. Viking Brothers, even Rose Riddle are alluded to now and then in various ways. Cute! A demo will make the decision easier. I don't recommend it for die-hard resource management fools but if you're looking for mostly brainless yet colorful game play, this might be one to try. It's overall recommendable, sure.
