About
*This game is a free game made by a general individual living in Japan.

This is the of the Steam Early Access release. The free version includes content up to <Chapter 1>.
*Thank you so much for the requests for an English version! However, the creator lacks the necessary translation skills. Unofficial translation patches are welcome, but since dialogue changes are expected, I highly recommend waiting until the final version is completed before creating them. I am currently developing the paid version. While there will be no major changes to the main scenario, some events will be replaced. Due to freezing issues caused by game updates, a separate store page might be created for the paid version. Additionally, once the release of the paid version is finalized, this store page will be removed.

Note: this free in-development game is entirely in Japanese and features the Prologue and Chapter 1 as of the time of this review. Chapter 2 seems to be close to finished? (Though who can say?) The full game will add Chapters 2 & 3 plus a Final Chapter. EDIT | on July 18, the creator has mentioned on Twitter that the "daily life" phase of Chapter 2 will probably be out autumn/winter 2021. To be clear, each chapter has a "daily life" phase, an "investigation" phase, and a "school trial (?)" phase.

English quick review I'm a big fan of the so called "death game" genre, and played a whole bunch of them, some in Japanese, before they came out on Steam (even though I repurchased games like Danganronpa and 999 to show my support when they arrived on the platform). And still this one made me sit down and complete it in a single sitting! For a free game, even if it is currently in active development, I believe that GiseiHero (ギセイヒーロー) is a worthy addition to the genre by all means. Although perhaps not as airtight with details as its obvious parent/inspiration (Danganronpa) and the UI looks very similar, building such a detailed deduction game within Tyrano is something to be lauded even if the game was paid. For free, it's an absolute no-brainer. ...If you have a JLPT N1 (native-level or slightly below) grasp on Japanese, that is. The story features protagonist Kosato Kimono (古里 希者) who has just been admitted to the prestigious "Perfect Justice Academy" (完全正義学園), a difficult-to-enter high school designed for those with "true justice" in their hearts (rough translation). Unfortunately, when she's about to enter the school, Kosato suddenly falls unconscious and wakes up alone in a strange room in a strange building with strange people for a strange purpose that is yet unknown. Perhaps the idea of "justice" they believe in isn't as clear-cut as it seems. You can probably see the references to Danganronpa if you've ever played that game. The concept and some areas of GiseiHero are quite similar, but it's got plenty of originality to the idea and will keep you interested enough in the game with its system of exploring areas, observing students, and eventually doing deductions and investigations. The surprisingly bopping soundtrack will keep your head in the groove and the cast of over 20 eclectic and charismatic characters (18 of them "main characters") will most likely leave their mark on your heart. Which will make later events delightfully painful... Depending on your Japanese reading speed, the current released content will probably take around 9 hours to complete (all the ends).

"GiseiHero" isn't a game. It's an e-book dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual novel/e-book/fan-fiction, this has no notable gameplay. It's just clicking through badly written dialogue that would never be accepted in print by an actual professional publisher. How did something this badly written end up on Steam? When someone can't get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam Direct under the guise of a game. This ebook puts the protagonist in the role of one of 18 "Righteous Students" at a prestigious academy who are then thrust into a twisted game where you must expose six hidden "Evil Students" by figuring out who committed a murder after it occurs, but the author never finished it despite intending to charge money for it... leaving abandoned Early Access garbage on the store. This e-book isn't linear, it's more of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book, but the point stands. Nobody reads a CYOA book and says "What a great game I just played." Books aren't games. Visual novels/e-books are the worst way to try read a book (and they're always written far worse than real books too). Imagine reading your favorite book, be that War and Peace or The Davinci Code (are you ok??), but you have to click the mouse for every single sentence that appears. You'd hate it. It's a garbage way to try read a book... and even if it wasn't, this still isn't a game. Now imagine that clicking experience, but with utterly cringe anime club fan-fiction writing. If the author had any talent, this would be published in print on bookshelves. Instead, it's here on Steam. This garbage only ended up on Steam because they paid $100 to self-publish since no real publisher would take them. E-books are just a collection of cringe writing and badly generated character imagery (usually done with a construction kit/image generator). So it might as well be a web page. We don't spend thousands on gaming rigs just to use them for what might as well be reading a website. Despite having no cost, this failed to appeal to gamers. SteamDB shows it peaked at only 4 concurrent readers. This is a dismal public reception. They couldn't even give it away. To satisfy the global demand for this book, you'd only ever need to print 4 copies. Genuinely professionally written novels and comics can be found at a public library or through websites like Project Gutenberg. Your PC isn't a Kindle, and I can't recommend non-game e-book visual novels to people looking for PC games.
the story was beautiful. I was very touched. :)
Chemmy R.I.P :(
