Corto, pero intenso
Girl and Goblin, developed and published by Inverse Game, is a puzzle game wrapped in a mature visual novel aesthetic that leans heavily into adult themes. It combines the basic mechanics of jigsaw puzzles with a thin narrative thread, designed primarily to reveal erotic artwork as a reward for completing each level. From the outset, it’s clear that the game’s goal isn’t to innovate in terms of gameplay complexity or storytelling depth, but to serve as a casual adult-themed experience with a light fantasy backdrop and a fair amount of fan service. The player follows a simple premise: a young female adventurer named Sakura enters a goblin-infested lair, and through a series of puzzles, the story unfolds primarily through static CG illustrations rather than dynamic narrative sequences. Gameplay revolves around assembling fragmented images in traditional jigsaw puzzle fashion. Each puzzle, once completed, unlocks a new scene in the gallery and pushes the minimal storyline forward. There are 15 levels in total, and 13 CG images that act as the primary visual rewards. The game features both a normal and a hard mode, offering puzzles with varying numbers of pieces depending on the selected difficulty. This structure gives the game a basic sense of progression and optional challenge, though it remains straightforward even at its most difficult. The interface is intuitive, with mouse-only controls that work well for the casual nature of the experience. However, there is little in the way of mechanical evolution—what you do in level one is virtually identical to what you do in the final stage. Visually, the game places all of its weight on the CG artwork, which is clearly the focal point of the player’s motivation. The art is well-rendered, consistent in style, and appealing to fans of anime-influenced adult content. Characters are depicted in a highly stylized manner, and the fantasy setting is more of an aesthetic backdrop than a narrative driver. Most of the game's storytelling is implicit—conveyed through these images rather than dialogue or plot exposition. This approach works for the audience the game is targeting, but it limits the experience to a visual one rather than something emotionally or intellectually engaging. The character of Sakura, for instance, has little personality outside of what’s suggested through the artwork, and the goblins are more props than characters. Technically, the game is very lightweight. It runs smoothly on low-end systems and doesn’t require much in the way of hardware. The sound design is minimal, with looping background music and the occasional effect to mark puzzle completion or menu interactions. There’s no voice acting, and the game avoids any significant use of text outside of the UI. This minimalism keeps things focused on the puzzles and the artwork but may disappoint players who are used to more fully realized visual novels or adult-themed games with branching narratives and deeper worldbuilding. One surprising feature is the sheer number of Steam achievements—over 1,500, many of which are tied to simple actions or incremental progress. For achievement hunters, this may provide additional motivation, although most of them are superficial and don't reflect unique in-game accomplishments. Replay value is limited, as once all CGs have been unlocked and both puzzle modes completed, there’s little reason to return unless you're aiming for full achievement completion. The lack of randomness in puzzle layouts and the static nature of the images mean that even the harder difficulty settings won’t offer much replay challenge beyond the first playthrough. The game’s strongest appeal is clearly to a niche audience—players who enjoy casual puzzles and have an interest in erotic anime art. For this group, Girl and Goblin delivers exactly what it advertises: a brief, aesthetically driven experience with adult themes and a light fantasy veneer. It’s not trying to be deep or innovative, and in that sense, it’s successful within its limited scope. However, players looking for a game with meaningful story development, complex characters, or inventive gameplay mechanics will likely find the experience shallow. The puzzles themselves, while functional, don’t introduce any new ideas or twists as the game progresses, and the narrative exists purely to justify the artwork. Ultimately, Girl and Goblin is best viewed as an interactive CG viewer with a puzzle gate. It does not pretend to be anything more than that, and for some, that’s perfectly fine. It's priced affordably and is often discounted, which makes it easy to recommend to its target demographic. But for those expecting a more robust or memorable experience, especially in terms of gameplay depth or storytelling, the game may come off as more of a novelty than a fully realized title. It’s short, focused, and unapologetically adult-oriented—an offering that knows its audience and caters to it directly, but without much ambition beyond delivering curated visual content through light puzzle gameplay. Rating: 8/10

Another perfect entry for achievement hunters. I unlocked all 1558 achievements in about 30 minutes, and honestly, it’s one of the most relaxing and satisfying completions I’ve done. The game is built around puzzle levels that gradually reveal visuals and story elements, and it includes an absolutely massive number of achievements tied to progression. The puzzles themselves are simple and stress-free, making this more of a chill experience than a challenging one. The visuals are surprisingly nice, and the relaxing atmosphere makes it easy to just sit back and enjoy the process while your achievements keep popping nonstop. This is clearly designed with achievement hunters in mind, and it does exactly what it promises. It’s short, easy, and satisfying if your goal is to boost your completion stats without frustration. The game even has a median completion time well under an hour for many players, which says everything you need to know. Pros: Huge 1558 achievements Extremely fast and easy 100% Relaxing puzzles and atmosphere Nice visuals Perfect for achievement hunters Cons: Very short overall Not much challenge More about achievements than gameplay depth Verdict: If you’re an achievement hunter, this is an easy recommendation. Relaxing puzzles, nice visuals, and one of the fastest and most satisfying 100% completions on Steam.
