This is my first level-based shmup where the objective is to finish separate levels rather than facing a gauntlet from start to finish. I have cleared the game on easy/ normal and overall this game is surprisingly really difficult. In the beginning, I got annoyed by two things: The visibility between the background and the bullets causing me to spend a long time adjusting to the game. Also, the lack of an official English dub, which is horrendous considering that we have to focus on the bazillion bullets on screen while also reading the dialogue and story in the top corner of the HUD. However, you will repeat the episodes a lot and that will make the story somewhat clear through the bits and pieces you'll get along the way. Now one of the best things in this game is the weapon variety and customization where you can choose a main, side and a special weapon to take with you throughout the chapters. Hands down, my favorite weapons were the time-slow special weapon and the homing bullets for the side weapon. The game seriously gets better the more that you play and the challenge ramps up heavily. The last two chapters were tough as nails but they were the best moments in this game for sure. The story, graphics and aesthetics of this game really reminds me of Megaman 8 and it is fun and quirky on all the right ways for better or for worse. The dialogue will make you feel like you're watching a B-tier anime which is either good or bad depending on who you're asking! The Japanese dialogue cracked me up in more than one occasion xD. Overall, I give this game a solid 8.5/ 10. I will definitely die laughing at the cringy Japanese dialogue while dodging a blanket of bullets again!
A very Qute try to do a modern shoot ’em up...
really high quality. tons of customization for every part of the ship, full story, and the levels look amazing. only fault is the voices are only in Japanese, so if you want to read the story you have to pause each time someone talks, because they talk while you are dodging a barrage of bullets. this game, and Eschatos are must play SHMUPs by Qute
So much fun!!! It can get really frantic without feeling unfair at all. The customization is incredible. I recommend it even for people who have never tried a bullet hell game before.
I'm usually not the type to write review but I think this game deserve one. Just like Tetris, SHUMP is one of the more classic genres with low floor and extremely high ceiling in term of complexity that welcomes both casual and hardcore players alike. There have been myriad innovations through out decades but the structure is still somewhat the same. Ginga Force has them too, but the thing that matters the most to me is that... the game is fun, like disgustingly fun. Normal difficulty in this game is in fact quite hard if you aren't familiar with the genre, so just tone down to Easy and let yourself be familiar with the mechanic. Get it done, and the rest is pure euphoric. This is hyper-sensory stimulation funslop, and I mean that in a good way. With this game and Natsuki Chronicles sometimes on sale at sub-$1, I can't recommend it enough.
