About
Gathera is a cozy crafting and survival sandbox for 1–4 players about gathering resources, building a home, and slowly unlocking more of the world around you.
Start small. Gather what you can find, craft your first tools and structures, and use them to reach new resources, recipes, technologies, and pieces of land. The more you discover, the more things you can build — and the more ways you have to make gathering easier.
Play alone or invite up to 3 friends and build your world together. You can focus on collecting and decorating, farming and fishing, exploring, automation, combat, or a mixture of everything.
Wood, stone, plants, ores, food, fish and plenty of stranger things are scattered around the world.
Gather resources, turn them into useful tools and materials, unlock new recipes, and open new parts of the world to find even more things to work with.
Build wherever you want and turn an empty piece of land into a home.
Make a practical workshop, a cozy house, a storage-filled mess that only you understand, or spend far too much time making every corner look nice. Furniture, decorations, collections and useful structures can all become part of your base.
Everything can be played solo or together in online co-op for up to 4 players.
Explore in different directions, gather resources together, share a base, work on different projects, or collectively spend twenty minutes deciding where a chest should go.
Not everything has to be about rushing toward the next upgrade.
Grow crops, gather food, go fishing, collect useful and unusual items, and improve your little corner of the world at your own pace.
As your world grows, doing everything by hand starts to become a lot of work.
Process resources, build machines, connect production together, and unlock technologies that can handle some of that work for you. What starts as a few crafting stations can eventually become a much larger production setup.
Unlock upgrades and improve your character as you play. Increase things like movement speed, health, damage, inventory space and other useful stats that make exploring, gathering and fighting easier.
Better tools, equipment and technologies will also give you more ways to deal with the world around you.
If you want some danger in your world, enemy raids can put your equipment and defences to the test.
Prepare your base, improve your gear, fight back and collect additional rewards from the enemies that attack you.
And if that isn't the kind of game you want to play, raids are optional. Turn them off and keep things peaceful.
There isn't one correct way to play Gathera.
Build something efficient. Build something pretty. Collect everything you come across. Automate half the island. Go fishing instead of doing any of that. Bring a few friends and somehow make an even bigger mess.
Gather what you find, make something useful out of it, and see where it takes you next.

Hello!! This is my first time writing a proper review for a brand new game, so I'm gonna try my best to cover all the bases I've found so far, and write down my notes in a concise and tight way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pros
The game's music and artstyle is frankly wonderful. I kept it on the entire time and very much enjoyed the sprites, animations, and overall vibe of the game. It's very relaxed, and was exactly the kinda style of game I have been looking for. Especially the way the sheep kinda waddle around, it's very adorable. This is advertised as a sort of "cozy" and relaxed sandbox game, and I can say for certain that that is very true! There's a raid toggle in the settings, so you're not forced to deal with raids on certain nights. There is still combat that takes place, but never on the main island if you don't want it, and on the islands where there are a lot of clearly designated enemies, the game lets you know when you purchase the map expansion to that island. Whether or not that is done for ALL the islands, I'm not entirely sure, but from what I've seen so far, islands that don't have the goblin camp designation tend to have mainly docile creatures in the day. Which is still very nice, and it is nice to be able to explore those islands without being bombarded by enemy goblins. I get to just enjoy the ambience and music of the area while I explore, and for someone who was specifically looking for a more "chill Necesse" kinda game, this is something I appreciate! As for the crafting and building aspect, its about on par for what these games do. It doesn't feel particularly bad in any way, but doesn't stand out in any way either, which is fine! It still feels fun to build out my base, and thats what matters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Cons
I will say, the combat doesn't feel AMAZING, and I feel like it could be tightened up a bit more. The fact that your character stops in place when using any kind of tool is a big contributor to that, and I definitely believe the combat, and the gameplay in general, would be a lot smoother if your character was allowed to move freely even when using tools. The sheer amount of enemies in the goblin camps can be a bit challenging as well, and while I'm not strong enough to fully explore them yet, I'm not quite sure if the reward is matched with the challenge. Especially with starting gear, it can be quite tough to clear goblins when they're coming at you in big groups. Which makes me wonder just how tough raids can be when they're turned on. (I wasn't interested in that mechanic during play so I decided to turn it off, but I will probably try it at some point.) I feel like this could be helped with the addition of some armor or healing items, like bandages that can be crafted with cloth or wool. I'm not sure just how many enemies are in the game, but the lack of armor still feels odd, and I feel like combat could be benefitted if there were an armor mechanic implemented. It would also just serve as nice vanity for our characters, which I always appreciate in games. While crafting isn't necessarily bad, I feel a way it could be improved is by adding a feature similar to Terraria's, where the crafting stations you use are able to take from surrounding chests to craft items, so that you don't need to constantly have your inventory littered with different items. Especially in this game, where the inventory starts out fairly small, I believe it would be a nice QoL feature to have. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Little Nitpicks / QoL Ideas
I have a couple more little nitpicks and QoL ideas that I feel would be good to add here. I understand the game JUST released, and is still in early access, so a lot of this stuff may in fact be planned, but ultimately I don't know, so I'll detail my thoughts here just in case. I think it would be nice to be able to rotate all placeable items and stations. So far it seems that only chests are able to be fully rotated all the way around, while bigger structures and stations, like the reinforced furnace for example, can only be placed in one orientation. This seems like something that is just going to be added over time, but still it did cross my mind. While listening to the music, I found myself wanting a tracklist feature. In a cozy game like this, I'm sure the music is going to play a big role in setting the mood, and it would be nice to be able to pick and choose which in game music can be played, or looped, etc. Stuff like that! And on the topic of the in game music, I would love to be able to purchase a digital copy of it on steam! I'm really enjoying it and would love to be able to purchase a copy to listen to in my free time. I'm not sure if this would be possible, if there's certain enemies that drop important materials, but I think a peaceful mode would fit this game very nicely! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Overall I think Gathera so far has a lot of potential to grow and turn into the next Necesse/Core Keeper-like game! While I haven't engaged with the raiding system yet, I think a tower defense mechanic in a sandbox game like this shows a lot of promise, and serves as a nice alternative to the Terraria level of combat and progression. And the sandbox aspect itself is very enjoyable to just exist in for a while, and I can absolutely see myself coming back for more as it gets updated. Congratulations for the launch, devs, and I hope you both keep up the good work! You got a really solid project here, and I'm excited to see it grow!

So, I was really looking forward to this release and was enjoying it up until I bought my first land expansion (new island) and was immediately swarmed by bad guys and killed. I'm not sure I would have bought it if I had known how much fighting I would have to do. On the sales page the game tags don't really mention it (survivial doesn't cover it) and neither do the pictures posted. I was looking forward to a chill game but unless they tweak it, this isn't it. Not going to give it a "don't recommend" as there's room to grow. Maybe they will add controls to limit or remove the bad guys. If so, I will come back and play again.
i'm having a lot of fun so far .. your demo showed up in one of my steam feeds and i've been excited ever since playing it! i really enjoy the visuals, music, and gameplay loop. reminds me of forager, but tighter and cleaner. for users reading my review .. if you think it looks fun, buy it!! it absolutely is and lives up to what i was expecting. the thing that stands out to me the most is that it's PACKED with personality .. there's all sorts of fun encounters and moments that make me giggle. for the devs .. i have more pointed notes. things i really like .. -the aesthetic and character customization -the trinket/gear system and the way it allows for player expression while also rewarding exploration -the way the economy drives exploration and vice versa some things i hope to see .. -being able to craft using contents from nearby chests -a skill tree that's more player-expressive .. more opportunities to make choices and build a unique character, even if full playthroughs end up completing the whole skill tree, anyways. -combat that's more skill-expressive .. weapon variety, special skills, and maybe even some movement options. i'm not asking for absurd complexity, just something more varied and less stiff. -building on the raid system with more buildable defenses .. think turrets, mud to slow enemies, things like that. -soundtrack release!! my gameplay is only a few hours right now and i'll update my notes as i play more and you update the game! the inspirations of your game are clear and i'm sure you've taken notes from them .. both what they do right and what you want to do differently. i love the bones and think the game is already incredibly fun. i also appreciate your general vibe in the way you talk about the game and its future. i'm looking forward to more!!
i have been super excited for this game since i discovered the demo during steam next fest and it's safe to say so far it has not disappointed! the option to disable raids and turn on easy mode is a nice feature for people who want a more chill experience, i personally am playing on just the default settings for now and haven't found anything to be majorly challenging as of yet. what i will say is that the damage from some of the mobs further down the line in other biomes feels a little unbalanced but that could maybe just be me being slightly underprepared for the fights? i have got most of the skill tree branches unlocked so i'm not like super squishy and also used certain foods that provide buffs but i still struggled and died a couple of times before i managed to defeat them. at the end of the day it is early access and there are only 2 devs working on the game so i can imagine it isn't easy to fully test every single thing, and different players will have different feelings around things, some enjoy a challenge and others prefer a slower, more chilled experience, so at least having the option to change the difficulty helps to makes that a little easier to manage until there has been enough feedback to determine whether things need to be tweaked. overall im really enjoying the game and i can't wait to see the direction the devs take it in!
Been on the lookout for a game like forager, I think I found it with this one. This game is very cute, relaxing and fun. I'd recommend it to anyone that likes forager.

good game plays well on deck
