The Birth of Jesus Christ Lk. 2:1-7 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ* happened in this way: When His mother Mary had been pledged in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with Child from the Holy Spirit.* 19 So Joseph, her husband, being righteous and not willing to expose her publicly, intended to send her away* secretly. 20 But, while reflecting on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bear a Son, and you will call His name ‘Jesus,’ for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now, all this occurred in order to fulfil what was spoken by the Lord through* the prophet, saying, 23 “Behold, the virgin will be with Child and bear a Son, and they will call His name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”* 24 And when Joseph woke up from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; and he took his wife 25 and did not engage in sexual relations with her until after she had borne a Son.
