The description of Furries & Scalies & Bears OH MY! made me quite curious--'This is a game where you can befriend and date dragons and porcupines and more dragons and tigers and stuff'. I've never played anything like this, never was into furry games, so that was a completely new experience for me. And I don't regret anything xD Though I realized it's not my cup of tea. Furry games do seem popular enough. I really tried to understand what exactly people find appealing in them. I was said that furry community is quite large but there're not that many games for such fans. And even if it's not something I enjoyed I'm glad to see a good variety of genres in visual novels. Choice is always nice, when every player can find something to relate. For me personally when I reached all those intimate scenes with different animals I felt weird. And I should add there's a real nice range of different animals. Routes aren't long enough to pull you deep into the story but the fun of dating lots of cute animals is great. There's no explicit art, just text descriptions, often only hints, quite funny, plus the whole bizarre experience of dating animals made me often laugh. It was entirely impossible to feel anything lustful for me. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1630039519 Speaking of MC, I really enjoyed how they were portrayed. There's no sprite, no gender is mentioned. That was so unexpected and I could fill the image with anything I wanted. Though it was still not easy to relate considering all those animals around. I like them in real life but imagining anything more in our relationship is so disturbing. And having such issues I'm really grateful how the plot actually helped me in that struggle. The game definitely could be longer, I'd like to see more detailed routes but even in what we get, we can find quite interesting scientific explanation of 'bonding' with animals. In general, the storyline offers players a lot—science, myths, religion, mental issues... The game is mainly a light dating sim but a player still can find lots of topics to mull over. And that's really amazing! Also, I liked how the dev was quick to respond and open to recommendations. The size of the text was fixed unbelievably quickly. I was impressed! It's always nice to see how developers care and try to improve their work. There's still a small number of typos. Though a patch was already released to fix the issue. Beside general new and sometimes even disturbing theme I also disliked how the conversations often ended abruptly. The game offers quite a lot of choices which is a nice feature but some options don't influence anything at all. Sometimes I was really engrossed in the dialogue but suddenly the chars just bid goodbyes, completely out of the blue. Well, I guess the focus of the game is a bit different. And more slots for saves would be nice as I like to save the game almost before every choice. There's no backlog which is also a bit inconvenient. As a result of all my contemplations about furry games I realized I could truly enjoy playing such games but with slightly animalistic characters. I'd prefer chars with some animal features, not dating actual animals, sorry, furry fans, I really tried my best to relate. But all in all I got quite interested in this genre, I do feel like playing more such games. There must be a reason why they are sold out so well. Sure, animals are adorable, better than people, lmao, but dating them... oh my XD But I try to stay flexible and open to new experiences. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1632165136 So, I'd recommend this relaxing game not only to furry fans. Art is cute, there're lots of achievements. Unfortunately 4 of them with 0% world record. No guide for now. The dev states ''To be fair, those are some of the harder ones to get, as they require some esoteric combinations of scenes.' That's hilarious but annoying, I hope there'll be some players soon who'll meet the challenge and make a guide. Really looking forward to it! I don't want to not recommend it. This type of game is too rare and niche to deserve a negative note... But it's not very good compared to other similar games. Also what's up with that misleading title? The characters are cute with each their own personality, up to a stereotypical point. The graphics are simple but works fine. The music is not very good, and sometimes doesn't fit the action at all. The story is very childish, linear and not very consistent. The writing style is poor. Some occasional scripting gets clumsy with the occasional minor bug. Also, the choices tend to switch from the other character's first and last names which gets very confusing. I finished this game without a single emotion, laugher or surprise at any point. You do not feel involved in what's going on. So, that's it.
For a visual novel and dating sim... There really wasn't much dating at all. Just one date towards the end of the game if you have enough points with a character. This game focuses more on the story element instead and it's passable. What became unforgivable and caused me to write this bad review however, was what happened on the date (The reason I bought this game in the first place.) I chose to go out with Lois and was stunned as she wished to remain friends after the short date. I got friend zoned in a dating sim. I thought maybe I didn't have enough points so I decided to try again this time answering everything perfectly. I was once again met with her just wanting to be friends. It was impossible to get the girl I wanted. Why have her as an option if she rejects you regardless? Don't want to bother seeing if this is the case with the others seven characters. If I wanted to simulate being friend zoned I would of played real life instead.
I'm sorry but it's not intimate enough and doesn't engage very well with the plot.
A furry dating sim with no lewd is like an ice cream party with no friends. Sure there is ice cream but no one to share its creamy goodness with. 3/10
I've never had a ren'py game crash nearly as much as this game does and it doesn't seem to work at all past a certain point in the story if you have DLC disabled, it just ends the game abruptly. There is also more than one achievement that is broken entirely such as 'popemobile'
I really enjoyed this game. It was a short sweet "adventure" to another place. There are a few typoes that im sure will be caught and fixed in the next couple of days / weeks (i litteraly bought this on release so it is to be expected.) Other than that i cant think of anything that came off poorly. On the positive side, all of the characters were interesting. The conversations were believable and managed both to move the story line and flesh out the character you are interacting with. When I finished the game, i was left with the sense that i really had gotten to know a bit of everyone. The only thing that could have made this better was of course MORE!!!!! lol but honestly thats the way I always feel when I've finished an enjoyable book of any sort. PS. I'm not sure why this game got the sexual content lable. There was no nudity, nor explicit conversation on the subject. Infact, i dont even recall it even being implied in any sort of fashion. Not that I minded, while i can certainly enjoy adult content I think this story was just fine without it. I only mention it as you could probably drop the adult tag on it and get a wider audiance. Unless of course you were planning a patch or something else. Still I cant see where that would fit in, with the game i just played. PPS: my bad, i just wasnt getting character relationship up high enough. So ignore most of the first PS lol.
Andy is such a cutie pie! 10/10 would ask on a date again Also, the story is good!
A visually great, visual novel, though it's a little disappointing that you have to pay a little extra for a character species which is mentioned on the title of the game and the portal which sets in motion the events for the game could be perceived as a blatant rip off of the stargate from the tv show and movie of the same name. Though overall it is a game I would recommend for those who like furry visual novels and have a few hours to spare.
I unfortunately can't recommend this game. This feels more like reading over the bullet points to something that will eventually be written rather than a full story. Everything just goes way too fast. There were points where you say one line of dialogue to a character and were like "well, bye!" There was a lot of potential here and it just doesn't feel finished. I didn't really feel attached to the characters and I feel like it would take many play-throughs just to grasp what's going on. Like, some plot points just come out of left field and while they're slightly hinted at, there's almost no build up to it. Stuff just sort of happens and is over as soon as it begins. There's no substance. I ended up finishing this game in 95 minutes, which feels ridiculous. Also, you really only get to interact with one set of characters per day. You only get to go to one location per day, but things happen so fast and there's so much time skipping that I felt like I was missing out on a LOT of stuff. There's also some self aware jokes in the game that are just kind of thrown in and aren't done very well. This part contains spoilers.
There's a sub-plot in here about your character randomly transforming into different species constantly, but it's completely irrelevant and nobody really seems to notice or care except yourself, Dorothy, and the two scientists? Even when you're dating someone, it isn't even brought up as a question, nor does any random transformation happen when interacting with anyone else. You're just somehow magically human around everyone else I guess? The main plot is about some old god or something trying to use you as a vessel to leave the island, but the whole plot happens in like 5 minutes and is pointless. The summary of my playthrough is like this: Hey we're suddenly in a new world! That's cool. My friend is depressed. Oh it's been a few months now and I'd better make friends with everyone. Hey you can flirt with these people, but for some reason time goes so fast that you only get 2 minutes and Hey David, my day sure was great for those 2 minutes I was out. Now it's 3 weeks later, time to share 3 lines of dialogue with this dragon and now he likes me. Oh hey I'm randomly turning into animals but I can't really see it as a player. That's neat. My part in this story as a player is pointless. I'm apparently just here for who Oz gets to date and also some other minor things. Oh there's a monster now and he wants to kill me. Oh no, the dragon is dying. Oh he's back. What the ♥♥♥♥ is this crab? Why is the town suddenly rebelling against the mayor? Oh the mayor was apparently trying to keep everyone here all along and made a deal with that monster/god thing? Hey, things will be okay, just own up to it. Oh look, everyone forgives him. Okay now time to say bye. ????????????
Everything just sort of happens before I'm able to process any of it. There are much better visual novels and dating sims out there. I know how hard the creative process is, but goodness, this feels like you didn't try in the writing.
