This is the third installment in a horror series where you play as an unfortunate soul trapped in a cursed location haunted by someone who died there. Your only chance of escape is to make the correct choices and break the curse, while almost every other option results in a brutal death. The games all share the same mechanics and features, so the review of the first game applies equally well here. Settings are fairly basic. Aside from the usual visual novel adjustments for text speed and an assortment of keyboard and gamepad buttons that feel unnecessary, since you’ll be using a mouse anyway, there are no display options. The only way to play in full-screen mode is by pressing the Alt+Enter combination. There is an English translation, and while it reads more smoothly than many titles from the Asian market, it still shows signs of being overly literal. On one hand, the translation is good enough to let you follow the story and understand what’s happening. On the other, the game’s user interface does not properly support English. By this I mean that words which don’t fully fit inside the text box are broken apart without hyphens, leaving part of the word on one line and the rest on the next. In some cases, even short words are split so awkwardly that only a single letter appears on one line, such as “r” on one line and “oom” on the next. This makes reading difficult, as you constantly have to piece words together. As for the visual novel mechanics themselves, you progress through the story and occasionally choose between two options. Manual saving at any point is not possible, but you can save before making a decision. This matters because most choices lead to your death. However, that’s intentional, as each bad ending unlocks a gallery entry and an achievement. You’re encouraged to pick as many wrong options as possible to collect everything. When you reload to try a different choice, the game marks your previous selection with a bloody handprint for a bad ending or a circular symbol for a safe path. This immediately shows which options you still haven’t tried.
Ok I've bought and beaten all 3, I like the extra paths in this but maybe some new horror ideas in4? Hands are getting boring
