great game but difficulty options are just useless you'll need to be Enlightened for this game
English / Français Overall pleasant game with good vibes : make kids working in coal mines, eat your deads for yummy meat + ecological recycling, found a cult and burn the heretics (based)... Some broken mecanics for achievements, DLC are now fair priced.
great survial
This game is as gripping as a great novel. The gameplay loop is addictive, and the moral choices made as your city begins to suffer from low resources and temperature gives the game its wonderfully dreadful character. It's the darkest dungeon of city builders.
📢 Verdict: GRAB
TLDR: An atmospheric, high stakes blend of survival and city building that keeps you hooked from the first freeze to the final storm.

🔄 The Loop: I've played survival games and city-builder games, but not many hybrids of the two. This was far more enjoyable than expected. The core loop revolves around managing heat, resources, and citizen morale while expanding around the central generator. You truly feel the heavy responsibility of keeping your people alive through grim, desperate conditions, making every hard choice count.
🎨 The Vibe: Immersion and atmosphere are top tier. The steampunk-like world is pretty cool, with the central generator looking like an absolute technical wonder once fully upgraded. Visually, individual structures are surprisingly easy to distinguish despite the desolate, frozen landscape. The soundtrack ramps up masterfully to match the intense stress near the end of a run, though it can get a bit repetitive after multiple playthroughs.
⚙️ The Friction: The UI is straightforward, intuitive, and very easy to navigate. There are just a few small things that could have used polish. The world map view does a brilliant job illustrating just how small and vulnerable your town is, especially towards the end of a run when you see the massive incoming storm front. Technically, performance is a dream. No noticeable FPS drops or stutters throughout, plus it's a small game to install.
🌐 The Ecosystem: The DLCs add tremendous value to the base game. "The Last Autumn" is probably the most unique and well worth getting. Its mechanics keep the gameplay fresh, even if it could have used a few extra tutorial pop ups to explain the new systems better. I don't think Frostpunk would be as replayable without the DLC though, as runs do get repetitive. It isn't that hard once you learn the loop and stick to a plan.
Genuinely one of the best city-building games out there, as it really makes you question your leadership under the harsh and ruthless pressure of mother nature without skipping a beat. 10/10 would play this again when having heart palpitations, as I never felt stress that was quite exciting as this one.
