Foxhole is a great video game. I’ll start with the downsides, though. It’s very difficult to get started and understand all the systems involved in the battles that take place in the game. Apart from a tutorial in the start lobby that barely teaches you four things, you jump straight into the game without really knowing how to do anything. The developers should try to improve this aspect of the gaming experience. Now, for the good bits: it’s an extremely social game. Everything the game doesn’t teach you is taught by the players themselves, who are all a bunch of crazy, unhinged lot who spend hours and hours in here. The war simulation experience here is very comprehensive, from the backline – where players organise themselves by setting up huge factories as if it were Factorio, producing weapons, ammunition and vehicles – through to the logistics players who deliver and distribute all these resources, right up to the infantry on the front line, fighting and dying to win the war. No other massively multiplayer game has made me feel the way this one has. Anyone reading this should take it slowly. It’s very easy to burn out. It’s very easy to get fed up. Find the perfect balance that works for you and you’ll thoroughly enjoy this gem. At the moment, the game is in a bit of a strange state, as there have been some massive updates that need patching and fine-tuning, but overall it’s still a very good game. I recommend it, but take it in moderation – it’s addictive.
