After Fallen Leaves Town this has been the 2nd title from Peach Rain presented in colour. But this means we only get to see colours once a section is complete as in we have found all cats there. The previous title has around 300 cats - double that (roughly) and you get ButtonWood Street. It is a nice HOG that takes around an hour to complete. That is, without using the hint functionality which is a requirement for one of the achievements. Now, the drawing is nice (as it was the same in earlier titles) and the idea is to add the meowing sound to cats to ensure you get help since avoiding the hint feature is your only option for 100% completion. This noise our feline companions make gets stronger as we get closer to an animal hiding. And this is also the shortcoming of the game. If you see a relatively large section with several cats that you have been trying to find, they all start crying. Hearing these from 3 or 4 animals can be really annoying (not to mention the intensity with which they do this). One thing ButtonWood Street definitely taught me: patience. And also zoom in to cover a smaller area so that you can focus on fewer cats and reduce their annoying song! Apart from this the game is great! A lot of things can be interacted with to find hidden cats. A good example is the car where kitties are hiding under the trunk and behind every door. Also, the HUD you can make disappear which is a must since you do not want to accidentally click on anything while you are just looking for a cat in the corner. ButtonWood Street joins the likes of Amusement Park and Street Market in terms of the number of cats but the developer finally ditched the balloons (Street Market) so we can just focus on what really matters.
I love these hidden cat games, this one is a little more challenging but super fun.
In Hidden Cats in Buttonwood Street you search for lots of kitties…not 100, not 200 but 560! Can you spot them all using no hints?
Gameplay & Features
Settings include; audio controls, language, resolution options and reset progress. Highlights * Hints * Cats colored in as you find them * The zoom is nice, gets in close enough to see the small kitties * Easy to get achievements (just don’t use hints to get the last one) * WASD controls for panning the map at full zoom * Game areas are colored in as you complete them * Map is interactive! Look behind or in items to find hidden cats. * Cats will meow if you get close enough to one in an area (sometimes a whole chorus of them)! * Relaxing piano music
Overall Experience
I really enjoyed this game by Peach Rain. I have played all of their games and have watched them improve over time with not just adding in some color but now integrating interactive elements, and any game in this genre that adds those elements really stands out. Near the end there are some pretty hard kitties to find I must say and I had to resist hitting that hint button many times. I am not a fan of attaching achievements to using hints as it can get frustrating, especially when you're searching for this many cats and these games can also be played by younger gamers. Still it will pass away a couple of hours and parts of the map do fill in with color once you find all the cats in the corresponding area. 🐈
Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one. Peach Rain, the dev, has done it again! Another wonderful Hidden Object game with cats! You're not looking for 50 cats in your neighborhood. Oh no. You're looking for 560 of them! Good luck, my fellow cat finder! Let's see what you got! PROS: - Simple, yet intricate black and white world that colors itself once all the cats are found in that area; - Tranquil and motivating music in the background; - If you are looking for achievements, don't use hints (instead, listen to cats meowing); - Cats can fit anywhere, so be sure to click on drawers, windows, cupboards, boxes, you name it; - Easy to learn mechanics; - Training for your eye-sight. CONS: - Nothing. I recommend this game to all players that love cats, Hidden Object games or tranquil music. Try the other games from this developer. I am sure you will love them too.
Gutes Hidden Spiel!
I really love this type of HoB Game: You have 560 cats to find in one big level / picture. Sounds easy it first but the more cats you already found the harder it gets. If you find all cats in a section the section is getting colored. You also get hints were a cat is hidden via a 'meaow' sound so it is very possible to get the 'find all cats without hints' achivement.
With 560 cats in total to find and considering the average 100 hidden cat game is about a dollar, you're getting a pretty good rate of cats for the money. This game will color in an area once you've found the nearby cats. Plus if you've missed any, you can sort of triangulate where they might be by listening for meowing. There are interactable areas hiding cats (sometimes with even smaller interactable areas inside those, so be on the lookout for recursive hidden cats). The only drawback is some of the cats suffer from indistinct blobbyness that can make a few very annoying to spot. But overall Buttonwood has everything I want from a hidden cat game.
Search for hidden cats around ButtonWood Street. Decent enough.
Same as 'Hidden Cats In Fallen Leaves Town' : it's an okay hidden cat game. Some of the cats don’t look like cats, but the meowing sounds that guide the player and the way the picture becomes colored after completing a zone help compensate for this flaw. It takes about 40 minutes to complete without hints. ༶•┈┈୨♡୧┈┈•༶ Okay so I enjoyed this game, very cute, but something I was NOT a fan of was the limited amount of hints. It was annoying only getting like 20 hints when there were 560 cats.
