I loved the demo of the game and very excited to now play the early access version. The setting of fantasy meets industrial revolution is unique, and the turn-based combat of using a factory to produce spells is very engaging: various departments can be obtained and upgraded throught the story, and, once you know your way around the menus, you can uncover very efficient combos, like distributing upgrades between departments to maximize damage, activating a department to multiply the effect of the next spell, or producing elements to inflict even more spells, and damage, in one turn. This is very satisfying. But to me, the best part is all the writing, which is incredibly witty and funny. There is a lot to read, and I have not enjoyed reading in games as much as in this one in quite a while.
Fay's Factory is a really unique game to just dive into and spend few hours reading and exploring a very interesting take on a world where magic meets modern ideas. The factory management and spell creation is really interesting and I like the impact some storywise decisions have on the game, but it was still rather lacking on that department. Nevertheless, losing and winning in duels have different outcomes and world dynamically changes. This game is still in Early Access and story is not finished, but you can still do handfull of stuff like completing main and side quests, edit your character and your house, click on all things you can see on the map and just casually meet all sorts of characters. Probably the best part of the game is, as mentioned, factory management where you use electricity, ice, fire and coins to create unique effects that either damage the opponents or have different benefits like curse them or disable their machines. The machines also can affect each other so it's really important you read how they function properly and develop strategies around them. In conclusion, I had fun for what the game was offering and I hope to see a lot more improvements and unique ways to discover Fay's Factory after 1.0 release!
Also, ♥♥♥♥ you, give me all the money.
A quite unique combat system and very enjoyable writing, although could have done with a little bit more tutorial on how the factory works exactly. Overall I'm very keen to see it get polished up, it looks like it has a lot of potential!
EDIT 2: Creator is updating, just not frequently. Small team (maybe one guy?) so that's understandable. EDIT: It's been 6 months since launch and this review. The dev promised some kind of update "in a month" and it's been 5 months since then. It's been 4 months since they last posted on their official discord. I am not entirely sure they are still working on it. As previously mentioned: The game is not worth 15$ in its current state. Original review: Early Access Review. As it stands *right now*: The game has some excellent design and writing, but content-wise it is barely more than a demo. So while showing a lot of promise, it really isn't worth the $15 asking price right now. So I'm recommending it *for now* to support a promising game by a small indie developer. If it doesn't get significant content updates, I'll have to change that.
Very fun and creative strategy game. Managing the factory and making choices with the NPCs is a blast. Some battles even become more challenging with optional objectives like "don't use electric spells". I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that like turn based RPGs.
good politics
Fay's Factory is a gem. An RPG at heart, packed full of meaningful choice & consequence. Features top shelf low poly art, unique setting pivotal to the story, and an unusual & innovative combat system. Fay's Factory is bloody excellent. Honestly, the game's trailer does it no justice at all. It's an RPG with a surprising level of choice & consequence, and a bizarre but well-written and engaging socio-political story set during a unique magic/industrial revolution.
