When there is despair, that's when hope shines through. ^^

Introduction
Facing the Rain is a story-driven exploration game with mini puzzles and point-and-click like elements developed and published by Peremett-Studio. You take on the role of Billy, a young woman who has left her home to work as a maid at Hotel Busy in Drumberg. Upon arriving at the hotel, Billy discovers that it's not in the best of shape, but the owner, Irma, persists in keeping the place open. While Billy is preoccupied with her maid duties, she discovers secrets about Irma and the residents of Drumberg. Although things may appear to be doom-and-gloom, Billy may be able to change things for the better... With the gameplay, you mostly take care control of Billy. You can use either the keyboard (arrow keys or WASD) or the controller to move her around. Action keys allow Billy to pick up items to put in her inventory. Also, there are several puzzles present. A few are optional, but most are mandatory in order to progress further in the story. In addition, you can have Billy decide whether to help NPCs other than Irma. There are a few tracks present but no CGs, which isn't a surprise since this is a game made with RPG Maker. Steam achievements are present, too, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited".
Review
This game caught my interest as soon as I saw the store page for it, especially with its story premise. The developer was very kind to send over a review key, so that I could try it out and give my thoughts. ^^ First, I totally liked the story. It does have a saddening tone since it touches upon topics like depression, death, etc. However, I like how these topics are approached and how Billy tries to help others, especially Irma, through their tough moments, despite that Billy has her own problems. Billy is quite a strong character and doesn't let things get her down. As for Irma, I like how her story gets unraveled, and when I got to a certain part in the game, it took me by surprise, but at the same time, I couldn't help feeling bad for Irma with such a tragedy. Still, Billy tries her best to help, and she learns about Irma's past from NPCs at the hotel and in town. As far as I could tell, there are two endings, and getting the happier one can be slightly challenging. However, if you pay attention to NPCs' conversations, you can make the best choices that
bring the hotel back in business
. With the gameplay, I enjoyed the exploration and using items to unlock areas and talk to NPCs. As for the puzzles, some of them can be challenging to complete, especially since there is no guide available at the time of this review. I found myself getting stuck on a few puzzles. They are eventually solvable although I do want to make a note in regards to that flower counting mini-game. It can be hard to complete, especially if you're color-blind. However, I found that the mini-game resets when you exit the flower shop, so if you do find yourself in a bind, resetting for an easier combination may be the key. Anyway, I was able to obtain all of the achievements, but some of them can be missable if you don't explore everything, talk to all of the NPCs, etc. As for the art, the game is made with RPG Maker, so it has this lovely pixelated style that is reminiscent of 2-D games. I should note that despite the game engine, this isn't really an RPG. You do take on the role of Billy, but there is no battling whatsoever. Continuing, I like the art style and the sprites and backgrounds are drawn and colored well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3427645305 Regarding the music, there's a fair variety of tracks, and they fit well with the moods that the game presents. They give off this vibe of mystery and a bit of the spooky without going over the top. Also, appropriate sound effects enhance the game, helping you be in Billy's shoes and getting immersed in the world.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Facing the Rain? If you're in the mood for a story-driven exploration game that may be on the short side but has a great focus on depression and how to genuinely help others get through their difficult times, then I'd say it's worth checking out. I like the theme that this game conveys, and I couldn't agree more. It's best to try to help others through their dark times and approach them gently and with kindness. The puzzles can be challenging, but they and all Steam achievements can be obtained in one playthrough. For the asking price, I think it's worth it, but you can choose to wait for a sale. Finally, I'd like to give a major thank you to Peremett-Studio for the review key. It was an emotional journey playing this game, and I can't wait to see what future games are in store. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
