Humanity is at war against vampires and deviants. Mankind's last line of defense is a group of children trained to wield powerful magic that can rival the demonic hordes, but at the cost of most of their lifespan. Likened to bullets of a gun, they are known as the ‘Gun Bullet Children’.The time is NOW!

Ok guys, this recommendation is more like guideline, so im going to tell my opinion about this game right now, if you are new on this game, just bought it or something, check out the text down there, it might help you out. But now to the game itself: PROS: + Really good few hour gaming experience + If you are new to bullethell or you want to try it, add this to your cart when the next sales comes (Or download touhou), its so much fun. + The trading cards are worth about 0,20€ each. CONS: - No proper instructions - Pretty expensive compared to the length of game (If on summer sales or winter sales, totally worth it) - Pressing ESC will shut down the game (Not pausing) - Needs English sub patch if you dont want to see random symbols And now my guide for the starters of this game: Okay, first thing I'd like to let you know about this game is that THERE IS NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES UNLESS YOU DOWNLOAD THE PATCH FROM THE INTERNET. There is really simple Guide by hum79 that can help you get that thing done. Now to the game. In the beginning, you select options with arrow keys. To select, you need to press Z. Also you might want to try the PRACTISE MODE before you try the MISSION mode, just to try the characters. Also if you are new to bullethell games, my advice is to change the mode from NORMAL to EASY from options (Unless it already on EASY). Now lets move to the gameplay, which might feel a little weird at the start of the game. You shoot from Z, Slow by holding X and use your BOMB pressing C. You also have this bar on your left which will fill when killing enemies. When its full, release Z (Shoot) and press it again to do decent damage blast. At the start you have 3 lives and 3 BOMBS, but you can collect these blue crystal-like pieces from enemies. When you collect them you can gain extra life. The enmies also drop Purple crystals that are called "Reinforcement". When you collect the amount that the bar on your right side shows, you get the reinforcement and start shooting more bullets and much faster. Well thats pretty much it I hope this recommendation helped someone, if not, im terribly sorry. Have a nice time playing this game!
Exceed - Gun Bullet Children is like Touhou. So,for those Touhou fans, try it out thou. The game runs with a low resolution (640x480 which can't be changed) and no english. If you wanna the english translation, you can get it here *controls* Z=Shoot/special power X=Slow movement C=Bomb V=Pause the game Ctrl=Back to main menu ESC=Exit the game
eXceed isn't a terrible game, but it is an entirely inessential one. It gets the fundamentals of a bullet hell game right but does nothing unique to distinguish itself, and with so many other similar, better games to choose from (including two superior sequels) I'm at a loss to come up with any reason to spend time with it. The overly compressed graphics and audio, and the inability to save or continue a previous game also cause it to feel particularly dated and archaic, presuming you actually manage to make it work. I can't exactly call it broken, but eXceed has major problems running on modern computers. For reasons I'm still unclear about it's virtually impossible to get the originally intended 60fps on anything but ancient hardware, and with the speed of the game directly tied to the frame rate less than that is functionally like playing in slow motion. With enemies and bullets moving at a snails pace the action changes from fun and challenging to downright boring. I'm not joking when I say I had more trouble keeping myself awake than completing the first three levels, at which point I just couldn't take it anymore. Outside of for free I wouldn't recommend eXceed, and even then only to those with an old computer lying around to play it on. Everyone else can skip straight to the sequels and not miss anything, as the original is now little more than a placeholder.
The first game in the eXceed is a straight Japanese import version, which means it has no english dialogue, for neither text nor voice There's also no resolution settings or windowed mode option, so it always runs at a small resolution but full screen If you have to choose one of the games from the series to buy, i'd not recommend this, pick up 2nd or 3rd instead
Review with accompanying screenshots and video at Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/2019/05/05/exceed-gun-bullet-children-review eXceed - Gun Bullet Children is a bullet hell shooter by Flat Software and Nyu Media. This shooter features a trio of girls who belong to the Church. They are Chinatsu Kagaya, Sowel Devosiana and Miyabi Housen. Chinatsu, Sowel and Miyabi are employed by the Church as the Gun Bullet Children to fight off the vampires that terrorize Tokyo. Over 5 levels, the three Gun Bullet Children will fight through hordes of enemies and a boss in each level. As a doujin (independent self-published work) bullet hell shooter, it has great artwork in the character sprites, character special move names in Japanese flashing across the screen which resembles an action manga, game and soundtrack album covers, Steam badges, emoticons and profile backgrounds which make it attractive to showcase on profile. The game also has fast catchy pop background music to keep players excited in the game as an arcade shooter, great voice acting and variable dialogue lines that are different depending on the character being chosen to play in the game. The game is also forgiving for casual players with an unlimited number of continues. Sadly, the dated graphics and game engine (as a game that is released back in 2005) has brought with it, a lot of problems with the Steam version of the game. First, the take screenshot feature in the Steam version doesn't work, neither is there any feature to pause the game or to play the game in windowed mode to take screenshots. Pressing the Esc button will immediately exit and close the game instead of pausing it. Secondly, when the game is downloaded and installed vanilla, all the dialogue in the story part of the game is very likely to be in garbled text unless the user's operating system is set at Japanese. A translation for the game to English is available from published Steam community guides, however it still has errors in the display on some punctuation symbols unless the user's operating system is set specifically to English for non-Unicode programs which poses a lot of inconvenience when setting up the game for the first time. Thirdly, there may also be significant frame rate drops in the form of lagging and stuttering especially during graphic intensive segments when a lot of bullets are being thrown about and a character is doing a special move. The game is also unresponsive if played on a gamepad controller. After spending a few hours to troubleshoot the problems with the game and to play through all three characters in the story part of the game, eXceed - Gun Bullet Children is a short arcade bullet hell shooter that offers a few hours of arcade shooter gameplay with attractive anime graphics, voice acting, background music, artwork and casual gameplay as an introduction to the eXceed series. At the same time, it also suffers from display and technical problems as a game that is released more than 5 years ago, as well as limited variety in the level designs. For those who can overlook these faults with the game, I can recommend this game only when it is at a very attractive discounted price or bundle offer of a few dollars for the game and soundtrack DLC. If you loved Touhou you will love this game too. It's really challenging and fun to play I could play this for hours + cheap + japanese girls + 60 fps + hours of fun (I guess I'am the only one) - if you can't understand japanese you have to download a english patch - you quit the game if you press the escape button or minimize it - controls
I SAY NO TO SHOOTING AT CHILDREN!
The first eXceed is a decent danmaku (aka bullet hell, manic) shooter. Although it pales in comparison to its sequels, by itself it is enjoyable, and has challenging boss fights. Scoring mechanics are pretty simple, with a bullet grazing system to charge up your special attack. The game has an automatic death bomb option, which triggers a bomb (as long as you have one) when you're hit instead of you losing a life. It's a good option for those inexperienced with the genre. Controls and gameplay in general are tight and work as they should. Boss battles are entertaining and challenging, but the levels feel a bit too easy in comparison. Visually, the game is a mixed bag. It runs only in fullscreen, at 640x480. The presentation is pretty basic, and the game way overuses the colour red (red is my favourite colour and I still feel this way). This overuse is also my main gripe with the game. As all the enemy bullets are the same shade of red, along with many other effects sometimes filling the screen, it sometimes feels like my eyes are twisting themselves in a knot and it's hard to distinguish the tons of bullets flying around for a moment, resulting in a lost life. The UI is also annoyingly hard to read for the same reason. The backgrounds vary from boring, to nice but the same smallish picture scrolling over and over. Certain effects, like explosions and boss phase switches, look good. The soundtrack is awesome as is often the case with bullet hell shmups. For replay value, the game has three difficulties, plus three characters with completely different weaponry/abilities requiring different tactics to clear the game. The game can be played in Story, Arcade (i.e. with or without dialogue/story), or Practice Mode, but sadly there's no high score or replay saving. tl;dr, eXceed - Gun Bullet Children is a solid, fun danmaku shooter covered with a flawed presentation. The original game is only in japanese, however there is a patch to get the official english script into the game ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/207370/discussions/0/792924412090333459 ). It's also more newcomer friendly than many other titles in the genre, thanks to the auto-bomb and relatively simple scoring mechanics. Recommended for both veterans and beginners of, and anyone interested in, bullet hell shmups.
Boring, with long lulls in the action and what action there is (outside of bosses) being very meh. Even the bosses overstay their welcome, repeating patterns for a long time until you chip away their health. Visually awful too, with boring backdrops and boring normal enemies. On the technical side, it forces a low resolution, which is fine if the art's designed for that, and then somehow manages to struggle keeping up a framerate, making a slow game feel even slower. If you hit ESC it quits to desktop, if you hit CTRL it takes you back to the main menu, both losing your progress. This one's really only for the hardcore fans of the genre and/or people with nostalgia for the game. Anything past 1 hour I play of this is just to grind for cards.
I got this as part of the EXceed Collection and played a fair amount of it, so let's get something straight: you don't want this game. For one thing, getting it to work on modern systems is a hassle. The game is locked at a glorious 640x480, with no other options to tweak. Xinput gamepads don't work properly. Even dinput gamepads don't work, if Steam's gamepad config options are on (which is why my playtime is low, I had to launch the game from the .exe, it's DRM-free). Framerate is locked at 60, but the game isn't optimized for modern systems, so it barely breaks 30; it's a fluid 30, meaning no stutters, but still. The game is in Japanese only (audio and text), though there is a fan English translation (which I absolutely used). On top of all that, it's really not a particularly good shmup. The backdrops are repetitive and stale, the action feels slow, there is very little enemy variety. The killing blow is the fact that most enemies are massive damage sponges, more so than any other shmup I've ever played. Boss battles alone are marathons of hitting the fire button, hoping it will kill something in the next 20 minutes, while you're busy slightly maneuvering around solid red spheres and triangles that clog up the screen. The whole experience is a bit of a drag, honestly. The story is simple; anime vampires invade our world and it's up to Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to stop them using their magic, bestowed upon them by the "Church". It's fine, it's serviceable for this type of game, you don't really need a story here. The soundtrack's alright too; I'm not a fan of this early '00s techno dance era of music, but it's good for what it is, probably the best thing about the game. Anyway, you really shouldn't bother with this. I hit the penultimate level before just quitting the game myself, simply because it got too repetitive and too slow and I got hungry. Even if you get it as part of the collection, like I did, just skip it, it isn't worth the hassle. The sequels are infinitely more entertaining, you should play those instead. UPDATE: I have to add a couple of notes to the review. For one thing, the unbearably slow speed is, unsurprisingly, because of the framerate. dgVoodoo actually fixes this issue and the game runs properly. In fairness to the game, once it returns to its originally intended frenetic pace, the experience is a lot more enjoyable and the already noteworthy soundtrack really starts clicking with the action. Still, however, I will have to keep the "thumps down" for the simple reason that it's still too much of a hassle to get this to work, for what's on offer. The game is a pretty standard shmup that even when it's fun, it doesn't really add anything to the genre in itself. That would ordinarily be fine, if the game worked (more or less) out of the box, but as I've covered, it doesn't. The biggest issue is the gamepad support. The game works fine on a keyboard (d-keys, x, z, v, ctrl for menu, esc for quit), but gamepad support is extremely iffy. Some of my dinput gamepads outright don't work, those that work still don't support full 8-directional-control with a stick; meaning you're stuck playing with the D-pad. Have you tried playing a shmup with a D-pad? It's hell. But still, I thought it only fair to update this; out of the box the game is a disaster. With the necessary tweaks (English patch, dgVoodoo), it's fun if forgettable, as long as you're willing to play with a keyboard.
