Okay... So does anyone else remember the coop mode in "The Darkness 2"? If you don't that's fine. but I mention it because it reminds me of that old flavour of 360-era coop modes that some shooters seemingly had for no reason other than to say they had them; a time when in-depth coop mechanics and complex stories and objectives were replaced with "run around, go nuts, shoot everything, AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!". An era where this kind of shooter lacked much of a real sense of depth or complex design and instead relied solely on the catharsis of going nuts with the basic tools the game gives you while maybe watching some multipliers go up to remind you that you're shooting a lot of the things in quick succession, congratulations, big point number feel good! EvilVEvil is this era of weird, cathartic, half-baked shooter coming back to haunt us 15 years too late, is it good?... I don't know... Am I enjoying myself in a sort of guilty "this is cathartic trash" kind of way?... Absolutely! This game is Junk Food; it's probably not good for you, it doesn't look particularly appetising, there's no real depth of flavour to be had here, and do not expect any fancy ingredients... But sometimes you just crave junk food! Look, there are so many issues with it as a game; the UX and menus aren't particularly great, the feeling of customising your vampire isn't particularly good in terms of being able to really change how a character plays in any fundamental level, the story is practically non-existent, there's no voice-acting or radio person in a mission telling you what to do but instead just text prompts. It screams "budget" at you constantly but at the same time the act of running around, jumping and floating while shooting guns at a load of enemies while darting across parts of the map at super speed to just drink the blood of some random guy shooting at you to recover health and make you stronger to then jump straight into a pack of enemies to do it again while techno music plays in the background.... There's a charm to it that I honestly can't deny. Without friends who own this game I've had to play most of it as a single-player experience and, even in that the fun trashy arcadey silliness of it all shines through. It is not a great game, but for feeding that bizarre part of me that remembers the slightly rubbish bonus coop modes of the 7th console generation that, while not "objectively" good, hold some good fun memories; it honestly takes me back and makes me smile a surprising amount for what it is.

PC gamer wrote an incredibly scathing article about this game that feels a little unfair. This game is $20. It plays exactly like a generic 360-era horde mode. Its fast paced, silly, simple and incredibly fun. No one bought this, its dead on arrival with barely anyone in the world playing. My partner bought it so we can run private matches, and its brainless fun. The guns feel good, the abilities are fun and its a relaxing way to spend an evening. If you liked the darkness 2 coop mode you'll love this, and its so cheap. Definitely pick it up.
The game is more like a tech demo and not a game redy for release tbh for the ones who buy this game it can be fun if you just look for a hack'n slash with some intresting mechanics the idee is good but the combat fells like just mowing just enemys down it dont feels like the game is finished it got a good base but thats all the weapons feels like it's not finished the ads/scopes on the weapon lets just say to small or they are barley visible in a fight _ and im sorry for the devs bc i think if they did release the game as a early acces then it would be okey in the state it is now on release day
So far the game is quite boring, I try to get into it but it's a bland hero shooter with 2 abilities you can't change or upgrade. There are artifacts that change the number of damage you do or etc. Same with weapons having a few mods that slightly change up the gameplay. Most enemies are copy pasted until your objective is done and I can't find other players lol. I mean I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches but the gameplay is just very repetitive and uninspiring.
I was not able to find a single other person to play with, the game play footage is misleading the game looks far worse when actually played. The story is meaningless and it looks and plays like a game from 2007. The character abilities are nice as is the movement of the characters. Everything is very fluid and the game play can be fun at times. There are not many of those times. VERY DATED and very overpriced for such bland and limited game.
Feels like a Early Access game without the tag.
Pros It has a great artstyle, nice weapon feel but thats pretty much it. Cons Enemy ai feels clunky and dumb. I literally couldent find a single game online cause theres noone playing this game. The main menu and loading screen feels like there was basically no time put into it. Feels pointless to play through the missions cause the story is mid at best. Infinite spawning enemies. Weapon mods and Artifacts feels like an afterthought that was put in last minute, nothing interesting or special that makes you feel like "Wow thats cool!". its a shame, i was really looking forward for this cause it looked like a fun game and the artstyle looks amazing. The game studio has been closed no more updates or fixes will come. 2/10 Do not buy
i really wanted to love this game. unfortunately it falls short of any apparent goal or design. the story? bland. the gameplay? also unfortunately bland. everything about this game is so surface level and unispired. the only spark of insispiration seems to lie in their many many cosmetic DLCs. i doubt i will ever Re-install this game. the devs seem more interested in the ubisoft financial success model and less on making an actual game.
I actually really like the game a lot. So why am I giving it a thumbs down? literally as I type this no one is playing. I reviewed this game back in july for a website and it had like 4 players. I love games like this but if no one is playing then what?
Good old-school co-op PvE shooter, like Left 4 Dead but very fast. A bit janky but a lot of fun, though I can't speak for how long it holds up
