only other game that is like final fantasy 11.
The age really shows. Most people seem to be multiboxing at this point. As a new player this game isn't very friendly solo. not impossible so if it really sings to you give it a shot as it has good MMO bones but with most multiboxing leveling is a real pain. Also as a new player discovering things on such a niche game is kind of rough with a few content creators and websites that look like they are from the 90s.
It is the classic Everquest. The game that got me into mmorpgs online the since the day it came out in 1999.
I've played since 1999, only recently on Steam though. For 10+ years it was my other life, then I transitioned to EQ2 (EQlite) for the next 10 years. It wasn't the same, but the lore and spells were the same and it wasn't as much of a time sink. I still have friends that I met playing EQ, some IRL, some still virtual after decades. Sure, it is dated, and frustrating for players that expect all the help and hints in modern games, but this is the grandaddy of all MMORPGs and still fun to log in after all these years. Every month or so I'll do the run from Qeynos to Freeport, nekkid with just a drum in my hand, just to remember. Just for fun. Just for the memories. I no longer have all my binders, I doubt I'll ever join a new guild, and I'm not sure about the new expansions, but for nostalgia, I'm super glad EQ is still available.
If you're a returning EQ player from the days of old it takes a little time to get used to the changes. From what I can see it's hard to find other players outside of the tutorial area to group with, but there is a merc system that helps somewhat. You'll want to find people to play with or bring some friends if you want to do group content. Overall, it's a fun game, though very dated graphically and probably too slow-paced for younger generations whose brains have been fried by TikTok.
it may be old but it is very fun, im having a blast, i cant wait for the everquest legends. all depends on what they charge a month. but everquest 1 and 2 is really good. i definitely recommend
The game that started it all for me in December 2001. I still love it and can't resist when a new progression server opens !
