Most toxic community in any online game. 10+ year veterans do everything in their power to ruin the experience of new players out of no reason other than they find enjoyment in killing any growth of a game they have spent thousands of hours in. I posted on an Eve forum recently about my criticisms and experience as a new player, as I understood the game has an incredibly high attrition rate for new players. The result was me getting insulted, made fun of and even being reported to the suicide helpline as some kind of sick joke. There are good people in the game, but they are few and far between. Earlier I would say the game is worth trying, but by the time you've spent a few dozen hours figuring things out, you'll then realise how toxic the playerbase is and how the deck is stacked against any new players that join the game. Even the veteran players that do this, will often send you a bit of ISK (the in-game currency) as an apology for shooting you down and then say that Eve is toxic and welcome. Scams targeting new players are rife. Not even for any personal benefit of the scammer, they're just ♥♥♥♥♥ that do it for fun. The community would rather circle-jerk each other about how Eve is the "most complicated online MMO" and how its economy is "fully player run" as the entrenched and ever shrinking playerbase actively do everything they can to maintain a hold on the game and this unfortunately means preventing new players from joining. The game works as an internal open market, which means it's in the veterans interest to prevent new players from getting involved. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Did you also know that players can pay to use multiple accounts simultaneously (multiboxing)? Those big space battles you hear about that cost x amount of USD? It's a lot less people involved than advertised, sweating while they control 10 ships at the same time. In a normal game this would be called cheating. The whole thing is a joke. At most, you may have 15 000 unique players playing the game across nearly 8000 star systems. On paper it's chugging along, in reality the game has been been pretty dead for a while, plagued by microtransactions to keep the company afloat. The saddest thing about this is at face value; it's a great game. But the playerbase are now mainly 30-40 year olds that never grew up, and make it their mission to repeatedly remind new players that they never did.

i dont really understand why would anyone new would get in this mud, chinese and russians making 987 accounts and multiboxing with 20 chars per. it is utter nonsense, only reason that old players still playing is the fact that they have payed so much money ,they dont want to start feeling the pain. if there would be ANY kind of solo or coop play possibility more people would join i guess, but how it is now, 25 year old players with trillions of credits , max of max skills and gear just looking for preys, they r camping gates 24/7 in the name of `content` , just .. just stay away man
I can no longer in good faith recommend wormhole space to anyone seeking enjoyable gameplay. It promises a mysterious frontier of riches and thrilling PvP, yet it's ruled by blowhard multiboxing veterans who treat EVE like a full-time career, running 5-10 accounts with Tripwire maps and premium intel tools to trap and farm noobs like me who just wanted a relaxing scan after work. Casual or solo pilots get podded with zero warning and zero fair fights.
Played this game or at least tried. Apart from being extremely complicated, the existing players are the absolute definition of human trash. The community is so toxic, I belive every "Veteran" on this game doesn't have one irl frind or relationship. I swear the sweaty 40 year olds really need to go and touch some grass.
this game just sucks, i mean sure it looks nice longest running space mmo on the market but when your core gameplay loop is "circle target, shoot target" its just.... meh. you could argue "theres so much more to eve!" but like.... really? to do industry you circle a asteroid and shoot. then push a button and wait 10+hr plus while something crafts but first you need to get a blueprint to craft the thing you want to craft. who drops blueprints? i have no idea. now you can scan packages in space to loot by playing mine sweeper cool? not to mention the GMs are some of the insufferable people i have ever met in my life in the official dissord they delete comments and arguments refuse to eloborate and the last one i talk to always assumed everyone was arguing with him like that meme "why are you shouting at me" just because its been around for a long time like my ex wife doesnt mean its "successfull" CCP keeps selling eve and getting it back. 15,000 players online is but like 75% of that are people running 10+ accounts at the same time. toxic community. id have more enjoyment eat paint and watching it dry after playing this game for 10+ years and like thats cool and all this game has become NOT my cup of tea but i emailed CCP followed the right channels and its within my rights as a citizen of california to ask for my data to be deleted and my account deleted as i can no longer support the developers of this game and they told me "yeah we dont do that anymore"
I played this game 6 years ago. It was alright. Big learning curve, which is fine. I came back to it. Turns out the developers launched some update a few years back that dynamically changed how the star systems were linked together. In the process of this occurring, some new player agent missions became broken, as the mission was built around system links that no longer exist. I spent an hour researching how to get to the system I was tasked to go to for the agent. I had to spend all of my ISK to acquire an item that let me warp to this special, disconnected part of space that contained the system I needed to go to, and an item that let me warp back to regular, connected space. Upon warping to this area, I navigated to my system, then got killed by a gatecamper and lost all of my stuff. I proceeded to ask the new player chat for help and complained about this being extremely frustrating as a new player in a game that is already extremely hostile towards new players. The community basically told me to live with it or go play something else - so I left. The patronizing, condescending attitudes of these ancient gamers drove me away, which is a tragedy. This game doesn't often get many people who are willing to take the time to learn it. You would think the community would cherish any extra people who come to add to the population. But nope. Nothing but toxicity and gatekeeping to protect their little space. I've played many full-loot PvP games. I'm no stranger to the gut-punching pain of losing all your items in games like Albion Online, Rust, extraction shooters, and other survival games. I don't really care that I died and lost my crappy little ship. But you aren't going to get many new players who will be tasked with working around a broken system and be willing to jump through the hoops necessary to get it done. I was at the final hoop, got shot down, and decided that was my fair college try of this game. Good riddance.
Yeah its open PVP game and exactly what it entails - small hardcore groups heavily invested in game for years. Random ganking at any given time & kill on sight unless you join some ancient alliance using thier convoluted websites and application processes. For new people its fun at start in high-sec experiencing game mechanics and such but experience goes dull very quickly. The game is not hard but just very dull in terms of repetition. It may look like its hard steep learning curve but its just some things have 25 steps instead of 5 steps it could've taken to do the same thing. This micro-engagement is tedious as hell. Want to do anything remotely profitable/fun/dangerous - yeah you will be killed by people - over and over. Flying a mining ship with empty hold = dead. Doing exploration = dead, just flying = dead. This games sub is $30 (AUD) per month for full exprience is insane in this day and age with such extreme low player base. This games major problem is the engrained fraternity culture from 20 years ago which holds this game hostage. Looking at population charts this game been stagnant for more then a decade which suggests that new player adoption is non existant. No content or visual update going to resolve this problem unfortunately.
The new non-pvp starter reagon 'Exordium' makes a huge difference. Now new players can get a better feel for the game without the (very unpleasant 'Ganking' factor) stress that is found in the main part of the game. I always thought the 'ganking' was the main deterent to new players sticking around. Had they done this like 10+ years ago the player base might have skyrocketed. I hope there is a massive stream of new players that will now feel like they can take the time to learn the ropes before jumpint into the high-risk/high reward part of the main game. Cheers!
So after 10-15 year hiatus, I decided to try to get my account back up and see how things have changed. Within a week this is what the game and it's community provided: 1.) My old character was unplayable because all of the things I earned before the Plex system are now under the omega pass restriction. * No higher level weapons, ships, or upgrades 2.) I created a new character to go through they new player friendly tutorial. * The rewards were nice but with people actively ganking, you will loss everything quickly * The combat mission system was overly dangerous in the beginning with absolute junk payouts. * The mining missions paid well but I lost two ships within three days. If it wasn't for the previous Plex I had the character would have been stuck in a cruiser. 3.) When talking with others about experiencing the ganking being almost constant, I was told well you have to be on your toes at all times. 4.) I will not pay a monthly fee to be fed upon by others. The game rewards bad behaviors. The people that kill your stuff are also the people you buy replacements from. Because they make sure you can mine what you need to build your own. The TLDR of it: If you like games like Rust, where most players goals is to steal or destroy your stuff, then EVE is for you. If you are looking for a CO-OP game, this isn't it. This is why their player base is so low. And I know the fanboys will say cry more. I say, not my money or time ever again.
