Europa Universalis IV

A good game in my opinion that I have sunk a lot of time into. One of the biggest upsides is the easy access to tons of mods that alter the playing experience massively. These range from mechanic overhauls, alternate history all the way to complete reworks. If mods were not a thing, the game would suffer significantly. However, with EU5 being out now, I believe that EU4 has become somewhat obsolete, especially as mods and update will continue to improve upon EU5. If you do get it for a low price in some bundle or special offer, it can be a nice grab. But full price is no longer worth it.
