Hilarious, satisfying, surprising
I very much liked this game, if you like disco elysium, planescape torment, and those kind of great worldbuilding dialogue heavy games you will love this game! Its inspired and carries the spirit of those games beautifullyI would highly recommend it ahhh i loved how meaningful the ending was, I really want to play another game with *The Cleric* and his future adventures :)
this game is as good as planescapes torment, and absolutely worth you time
I have to admit, I did not read through every single dialogue. This is a very text heavy game tangled with lore, philosophy, race theory, religon, class conflict, you name it. I read through ideas and conversations what were interesting to me. One thing that does stay consistent throughout is the lighted-hearted tone of the game. It's truly an achievement to discuss some heavy, contested topics but still manage to keep the tone of the overall game comedic and witty. Art is beautiful. It's a bit confusing to navigate but one gets the hang of it. The gameplay is heavily inspired by Disco Elysium with the dice roll mechanic, a far from perfect MC with inner voices pulling in different directions, and the overarching narrative of solving a crime - that said it's still extremely unique in terms of the world building and characters. I look forward the sequel!
I've spent many an hour parsing through the many "DE" lookalikes that have released over the last few years, most had some really unique ideas driven by the passionate people who loved the style of DE just as much as the rest of us. Unfortunately most fell short. Esoteric ebb does not and in fact in some ways it may even reach higher heights that its beloved inspiration. I don't want to spoil too much of the game as just like DE experiencing it for yourself is so important. but i must say, in a world that feels increasingly uncaring, we are surrounded by atrocities and hardship to such a point most of us are desensitised. it's so refreshing to have experiences like Disco Elysium and Esoteric Ebb to remind you that caring is important. Giving a crap about the world and the people in it that you share it with will never be pointless. Every vote for azgal may not win us the election but it does bring us closer to a brighter future!
What a great adventure – to be honest I didn’t even suspect that it would be that good. I kinda wonder why this game didn’t get much more attention since it definitely deserved it. Pros: + Plot. The story in the game is great and really keeps you hooked up until the very end + Side quests. I was surprised how actually good side-quests here. Developers treated them the same as main story content and I gotta say, it is a very rare occasion in this industry + Characters. Almost every character you’ll encounter it the game is very interesting and unique, especially the ones in your party. Cons: - Controller support. Despite the game saying that it fully supports gamepads – in reality it is very miserable experience, so its better to use keyboard+mouse or mouse only - Equipment. The game makes the same mistake as Disco Elysium with equipment - you can't have presets so you're forced to change everything manually piece by piece if you're willing to get the maximum bonus for your stats in some scenarios Anyways, it is a great game and I strongly recommend it to anyone who strives for similar experience like Disco Elysium. You won’t be disappointed.
Beautiful, engaging, and just pure contentment-making
pretty fun game and very relaxing.
In a better world, this would have been Game of the Year. It gets so many things right and genuinely deserves all the praise it can get. As someone who usually finds D&D combat boring, this game completely changed my perspective on tabletop mechanics. It blends dialogue directly into encounters so smoothly that you just live the scene as it is and you do not feel that you need hundreds of dollars worth of tabletop props or heavy rulebook drag. It even made me rethink how I want to run my own tabletop sessions. Here are some of the things that I like about this game: * You start by setting your ability scores to determine your strengths and weaknesses, but you don’t lock into an archetype right away. Your class and ideals take shape naturally through your actions, choices, and dialogue throughout the story. * The game lets you actively read and observe NPCs, "beholding" valuable details about them before you even speak a word. * There is no such thing as making a fatal mistake or outright failing dice checks. The game embraces bad rolls and turns those failures into some of the most interesting outcomes. * The meta jokes land consistently, and the general sarcasm sits right in the sweet spot. * The vibrant aesthetic might look too colourful for some folk, but it never gets in the way of sad moments. * The score might not be the best, but it is definitely good enough. I never turned the volume down once. 10/10 RPG
