This game has too many issues to recommend. Intentional pixel hunting. A maze that doesn't make sense (even while watching a walkthrough). A select-the-right-part picture puzzle that's almost impossible. Not able to pick up objects when you first find them. Ton of backtracking for a time puzzle. Etc. Basically the effort/reward ratio is messed up. It's designed to be hard, not *fun*
I so not enjoyed this adventure game. First, there a huge amout of dialogs, that can't be skipped. Second, items you need to advanced in this game, only comes available after certain very linear sequences of actions. like why can't you pick up the empty spray and the spray-can at the same time out of the suitcase, if you need this for the same puzzle solution? But the absolute dealbreaker is the big spider scene, in which you die if you like me not clicking fast enough to escape and ends the game!!! Really, why can't I skip this scene to continue the game. Yes you may start a save game over and and over again, but you still have to go through the very lengthy dialog with the little girl and yes, in my case die again. Really, why can't I skip this part of this game so at least player can continue the game?

I don't like giving bad reviews to indie devs, but my god, this is game is just so unbelievably bad. It looks like most of the reviewers have definitely not played the full game because it takes waaaay longer than that. I haven't either. I was planning to trudge through the whole game, but I only got halfway through the third of 15 levels before I decided I couldn't keep wasting my life like this. On the third level, a bunch of the puzzles are literally JUST WAITING. There is absolutely nothing else to do, you JUST WAIT. For what actually looks like HOURS. Can't confirm because I wasn't going to find out, but I already spent probably more than an hour on that level, and all signs pointed to waiting several more. To the dev: I understand that you're a solo indie dev and that this is probably your first game. This game is very long (and not only because of the waiting level), and it takes a lot of discipline and follow-through to actually complete a game, so I commend you for that. You seem to have the right mindset for game dev, but you need to seriously work on your design, storywriting, art, and general quality if you want to be successful. I'm trying not to be mean, but let me just go through some of the reasons why I think your game is so terrible. First, and worst, the puzzle design. It looks like you designed the puzzles to be hard, NOT fun. You have to think from the player's perspective when you're designing puzzles. As an amateur dev myself, I know it's difficult because, as the designer, you already know the solutions, so everything seems obvious to you, and you don't want to make the puzzles too easy. But then they end up being WAY harder than you think. If you design puzzles that YOU think are too easy, they might actually be the right level of difficulty. And in either case, it's better to have puzzles that are too easy than ones that are too hard. In fact, if you have a great story, people often won't even care if your puzzles are too easy. As for specifics about some of your puzzles... the waiting stuff? Literally the worst puzzle design I have ever seen in a game. It's not clever, it's just terrible puzzle design. People play games for fun, and sitting around for hours(??) with absolutely nothing to do is not fun. That is the precise thing that people are playing your game to avoid. The spider minigame is also terrible because it seems to literally be unbeatable if you only use the mouse. Why on earth would you design it to be that hard? Did you test the game at all? And the pixel-hunting puzzles with the garbage bins... people hate pixel hunting. A good game should not have any pixel hunting. And I saw in a let's play that you have a password puzzle at the end of the game that uses the Spanish spelling in the English version? Are you serious, man? The general design of the whole game is also bad. Most first-person point-and-click games let you click the bottom of the screen to go back -- a back button in the top corner is very unintuitive. Next, the save menu makes no sense. Thank you for implementing autosave, though. The backpack inventory is also weird because you can't actually take items out of it like in a normal point and click. And what's with all the "choices" that are basically just "do this thing you obviously need to do to advance" or "don't"? There's no point to that. It just makes it feel like a poorly designed game. And the whole thing with critical items only being usable after you do some other actions, with no indication that you now need to go back and get this item that you previously couldn't interact with? Bad and frustrating design. I don't care if it's more "realistic" because it doesn't make sense to just take random items like the protagonists in point-and-click games always do. They do that because it's much better design. It's a game, it doesn't need to be exactly like real life. Moving onto the graphics... they look very amateurish. If the rest of the game were well designed, it would be fine, although it's definitely something you should work on if you want to make better games. You hand-drew everything yourself as a solo dev... okay, that's fine. Art is hard, I know, trust me. But you can still make it look less amateurish. I saw the page for your soccer game, and, uh... actually the art is even worse in that game. I'm sorry, but the color balance is just hideous. Even if that were my genre, I would not get the game literally just based on the graphics alone. Study some color theory and practice your art. You clearly have the discipline to learn, so just take the time... it'll be worth it. Also, font design... don't use boring, basic, default fonts like Arial. It looks so amateurish. A nice, fitting font can really elevate the feel of your game. And then, there's the general quality and language issues. The English is bad. I'm guessing you wrote all the English yourself because it sounds very Spanish and a machine translation would have actually been much better. If you can't afford a pro translator or even a proofreader, okay, that's fine, but you could have AT LEAST googled phrases in quotation marks to confirm whether they're things that people actually say. Poor translation will really ruin a gaming experience, so take it seriously. As for me, I'm a native English speaker, but I was playing in Spanish for language practice. I'm not that good at Spanish, but it seems like you had typos even in the Spanish version (e.g., "mal royo" instead of "mal rollo"). And you tagged the game as being available in both European and LatAm Spanish, which is not true. I don't care if they're mutually intelligible, it's deceptive. As someone who only wants exposure to LatAm Spanish at the moment, that sort of linguistic deception really annoys me. If Steam has separate tags for the two variants, then just respect that. I'm sorry if this feels overwhelming. I genuinely hope it's helpful. Good luck with your future projects. :)
Paciencia y a superarlo ;)
Escape Yourself is not for everyone. If you're looking for a frustration-free and polished game, look elsewhere. You can tell one person made it, and it's their first game. However, the story is deep and enthralling, and the puzzles will challenge you. The game will make you think and sometimes unintentionally due to spelling errors and poor interface. The story takes place on a train. Usually, it's nine cars per level, and while there is backtracking, it's only nine screens. After you complete a level, you unravel more of the story and move on. It's not always clear what you need to do and if certain objects matter to progress. The game needs a hot spot indicator as pixel hunting intensifies in certain areas. Completing it could take up to at least ten hours, depending on how much you struggle and your achievement hunting. Keep in mind some achievements are broken. I know I don't paint a pretty picture, and I was frustrated several times, and Danny isn't the most sympathetic character, but I did enjoy it. I recommend it if you're up for a challenge.
Originally an $11.99 game that went Free. The translation is similar to the level of an elementary school student (a lot of misused words.) One part in the first few minutes wasn't even translated. This really killed any interest in the scenario I had.
