Reviews
Initially gave this title a neutral review - this probably centred around difficulties playing the game without meeting a quick death. Notwithstanding, I hung in there because I thought there was a good game underneath given the good graphics and melee and ranged options that seemed to be there. Once you learn the nuances, there is indeed a good game (or at least one that appeals to me). I suppose I am not giving too much away by saying in the initial stages, you have to keep moving (standing still next to and attacker will bring a quick death) and use ranged options until you find a decent melee option and find a few health pickups or upgrades. Developer seems very responsive and I look forward to future updates.

"Escape from Deathmark Dungeon" is a mediocre 2D isometric dungeon crawler that, despite being only 3 years old, is considerably worse than 1997's Diablo, and I suppose when game developers aim at trying to rip off an almost 30 year old game and come short, we have to ask what's in it for gamers, and the answer is nothing. What do you do in the game? Well, it's more of a turn based thing where Diablo was an ARPG, but you just hack around a very poorly done dungeon scene with a very dumbed down set of RPG mechanics. It's no wonder this was a dismal failure... some developers talk about "shooting the moon" or being super ambitious. Here, the developer aimed at the floor and still somehow missed. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Before I played Escape from Deathmark Dungeon, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
