About
Become head of the European Space Agency's Space Safety Department and protect Earth from real cosmic hazards like Asteroids, Space Debris, and Space Weather. This science-based Planetary Protection Simulator combines tower defense, roguelite, and strategy elements to create a unique gameplay experience grounded in reality.

Before you can defend Earth, you need to see the threats coming. Build powerful ground-based monitoring systems to scan the skies for incoming danger—from massive solar storms to fast-moving asteroids.
But ground systems alone won’t be enough.
Built and sent your satellites into orbit to create a global network of satellites. The more eyes you have in space, the better your chances of survival.
Early detection is your best defense.
With the right data, you can assess each threat, determine its danger level, and launch the right countermeasures—before it’s too late.
Every successful mission makes you stronger.
Earn resources, unlock new technologies, and upgrade your systems to stay one step ahead of the next big space threat.
ESA SHIELD is more than a game: It’s a space mission!
It is developed as an outreach initiative for the European Space Agency to confront one of the most overlooked challenges in spacecraft: Space Safety. Play the game and support ESA in its mission to keep space safe and Earth protected.

☄️ Encounter Real Space Threats
Face the same dangers ESA deals with today. Coronal mass ejections, asteroid impacts, and space debris. Each threat behaves differently, affecting systems in unique ways, and demands its own monitoring and defense approach. Every decision could be the difference between survival and orbital disaster.
🔬 Research Real Technologies
Unlock and implement real-world tech from past missions, current prototypes, and near-future plans. Build your strategy using actual science and engineering: from telescopes to deflection rockets.
🛰️ Build and Customize Satellites
Design your own space systems: choose components, mission goals, and orbital paths. Balance cost, stability, and lifetime to create your optimal satellite system.
📡 Monitor the Skies
Deploy and upgrade detection systems like telescopes and radar arrays. Expand your coverage, improve precision, and catch incoming threats before they hit.
🚀 Defend Earth and Infrastructure
Build and operate space-based defense systems to prevent catastrophic impacts. Launch interceptors, trigger system shutdowns, or send clean-up bots into decaying orbits.
🎯 Make Strategic Decisions Under Pressure
Every threat comes with uncertainty. React with limited data, weigh the risks, and choose between bold moves or conservative actions. Your judgment matters.

-The texture of the game: The bland coloring and the miss of outlines makes the game look one big bright thing that makes your eyes struggle to understand what is happening in the game. The UI in research is too small, but the gigantic top bar makes it look it were made for mobile. And the total mission completion part "What is transparent" makes it like it were just put in the game after it was made in GIMP. -The gameplay: It looks very linear, even too much. You don't need to think in the game, just throw one thing on an another and you can leave it there to finish itself. I can see a future of this game, but not in the current style and mechanics.

Nice little demo of what could shape up to be a promising game. There is not much to play (yet), the game ends after you've discovered and deflected your first asteroid, which seems hard coded. Sadly it does end even if you've not done some of the other objectives (i.e. space debris recovery). I do like the art style of the game, the simplistic nature does give it a charm. However there are some rough edges (lack of shading and a feeling of depth, an empty looking background and UI and world not quite fitting together). For a demo / tutorial the game also doesn't quite tell you everything you'd really need to know, for example what the two stats on the satellites / rockets exemplify, how to properly along the orbit for the asteroid interception, or how to get research points quicker (buy a building from the shop). Some elements of the gameplay also don't quite jell well yet. Satellites you launch become space debris almost immediately and don't really seem to offer an advantage compared to ground-based surveillance (except having to reactivate them with a single click every few minutes due sun EMPs), and you get so much money thrown at you you can build as much as you want of basically anything. Might be because it's basically a tech demo though. For all my criticism there is an enjoyable little core of gameplay in there. If the developers manage to add more depth to the management of ground and air-based systems and the research, tighten up the economy and actually make you scramble to track and fend off multiple asteroids there might be a fun management roguelike in here. Overall I'd recommend to try it out, if just to experience it and imagine what it could become later. Also: Native Controller / Steam Deck input please?
A fun 20 minute game, I would love to see this expanded upon. There was a few bugs with placing down buildings but other then that for a free game 10/10
I can recommend this nice little game!
What the, did you make this so short so you could present a playthrough within 15 minutes to your profs with their terrible attention span? I mean I get respecting your players time but you could have paced this a little slower. with a bit more rudimentary mission design, and no hard win / fail condition within the first few minutes. I love this and with a few tweaks and rebalancing this could be suuuuuuuch a great idle game / education game. Play around with automosation more, and make stuff take longer to unlock. Came into this hoping I could also interactively learn something about the copernicus program. If you make this a good idler people would reasonably buy this between 3-5€ surely you wont have to pay esa roalyties either I mean """we""" already financed them from public money so its more or less public domain anyways.
Such a interesting and creative game! It will be great!
It's a fun and educational game. Not much to play yet but you can see where things are going and it is promising. Sadly it ends after you deflect the first asteroid. The game tells you everything you need to know with some nice quest. Visually the game looks good and i like the artstyle, the coloring and the brightness could need some refinement. Some small bugs but nothing too bad. Can't wait to play more of it in the future! 10/10 for a free Game
