About
After what must have been a wild party, Security Personnel H receives a rude awakening from an unfamiliar and facetious administrator called LARANK.
The self-professed VOICE of TRUTH informs H in a rather roundabout fashion that dangerous entities the facility was housing have escaped and are wreaking havoc.
<-- Larank shown here hard at work helping guide H
Concerned for his family, his work, and because he can’t find anyone less unhinged to work with, H has to rely on Larank as he moves through the now-hostile base, searching for survivors and hanging onto the hope that his family are safe.

tl;dr: Made with love! Has character development, bosses, nice music and plot twist. Vast replayability if you are really into finding all secrets and stuff My story: When everything turns to be lie, you have to make your own true. It was so simple at first - I just had to save what I had. Luckily, my battle suit was with me. In fact, it was like second skin. I had tuned its speed and jumping abilities because hostiles were weak and I had to hurry. It worked fine until I faced the tough ones. And the weird ones too. But they all are gone by now. I killed them all and I can't help thinking about who they were. But it doesn't matter. I found my way and hope you can find your own too.
Such a fun game, tons of secrets and replay value...Everything about this game is charming and thought out and an impressive first release from this dev who I'll be keeping an eye out for their future releases. So much love and effort went into this game and you can tell, a true gem. The only problem I had was in the underwater area the game slowed down immensely and when I reached the second or third underwater checkpoint the spinning Loading/Saving "H" remained in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and the game appeared to slow down even further at that point. However I'm guessing that this isn't a common problem since I haven't seen mention of it yet. But even with this temporary annoyance I still highly recommend the game.
Had a blast with this one I did. Got my hours worth out of this one I did. It's reminiscence of old nintendo games that were no cakewalk in terms of difficulty, but at the same time it doesn't hit that extreme point a few games in the past did. It also feels highly thought out, the way it's presented. From the way the menus are designed to how they open and close and other details. As for the gameplay, it's side scroller shooter akin to Metroid Games, but it nudges along the way so you never feel lost. You can shoot, you can melee, you can jump, you can even jump and shoot. *cough* Depending on how you upgrade your stuff, you might have completely different experience than other people. Focusing on certain abilities can affect how you approach stuff (Going for long range? Or the Double Jump? Maybe both?). The story was a lot of fun as well, the antagonist being a love it or hate it guy. I love the dude. Feels like how a person would be nowdays if put in that kind of situation! Also, game has secrets, lots of 'em. Half the time you might bump into them by accident, other times you will just know there has to be something around to access a locked room. A few of the more hidden ones are amazing. And now, the music. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect, but they are bit tunes like the good old day, but they reminded me of songs like the Explorer on La Mulana and even Megaman. The music is amazing if you are a fan of old game style retro music. A few of these I absolutely loved. All in all the value for the price is great.
I'm not too far into the game yet, but I already love it. It's very entertaining, in the style of ye olde metroid, excepted I get lost in the map less, which makes it even better. The gameplay is a lot of fun, with diverse enemies and creative boss battles. The 'enhancement' mechanic is perfect for that kind of game: it's simple yet effective, and a game that let me triple my health bar whenever i want is always a good game in my books. Every mechanic is also very intuitive, which makes it easy to get a hang of the game quickly. And even though the map is pretty linear (a blessing, as said above I get lost easily and I'm so tired) there are a whole lot of secrets and hidden places to find, so that's fun too. It also looks great! The pixel art is very vintage but clear and colorful, with each level having a distinct and often charming atmosphere. I love the design of the main character, and the enemies are both easy to recognize at a quick glance and pretty fun looking. Also, special mention for the music. The whole old timey platform shooter vibe works great. The writing... well alright, to be fair I'm not far enough into the story yet to talk about the story in and on itself. I feel like it's going to be good though, take that as you will. But the characters, that I can talk about! H is a bemused action guy with a hangover who loves his wife and daughter a lot (and I love HIM a lot) and Larank... I feel like he's a bit of a 'love him or hate him' kind of character, but I personally think he's hilarious, especially when H reacts to his whole shtick with the exact same kind of bemused acceptance I do in any other video game. "This door is locked now!" "...Alright. Sure." Only real problem I can see for now: the lack of saving. Checkpoints don't work as saves, and there just aren't enough places to save the game, which can be frustrating. All in all it's a solid gaming experience, and I'm excited to keep playing through it and see how it ends!
Summary:
(longer version below) I really wanted to like this game, but the illegible font, horrible resolution, bugs, odd physics, weak upgrades and tedious progression made it impossible for me to enjoy it. The humor felt too immature for me and I disliked how in-game conversations interrupted gameplay. I'm sure fans of Metroid will find it enjoyable but personally this game wasn't for me.
In-Depth:
Reminiscent of Metroid and Megaman, Enhanced is a simple RPG game where you play as H, after waking up on a spaceship in search of your family. When I first saw the game I had relatively high expectations, but sadly I was immediately thrown off by the resolution of it, which could not be changed at all. Atop of that it plays in windowed, which is fine if I could make the window smaller. I really liked the cutscenes, but found the conversations and achievements to be too.. immature? Not sure if it was intentional, but aiming also wasn't a smooth 360° but your gun would snap at certain angles making shooting feel very unnatural. Physics worked really weird as shooting some boxes would cause them to violently fly away, and sometimes the items dropped from them would end up stuck in a one block hole. The music became repetitive quite quickly and unfortunately the conversations between you and Larken became detrimental as it would start stopping you during some crucial moments. Some things weren't straight forward, making progression harder especially as some checkpoints were too far in between, and you only have one save point you can rarely access, meaning once you die you'll either have to choose to invest another 20m to get to the save, or quit and start from where you last saved. Missiles were basically useless as they share the cooldown with your normal fire. I hardly noticed any impact with my upgrades, and I stopped following the story as overall I got too frustrated over everything else, though in the end it seemed to be getting interesting. Achievements were mostly just random?
A fun, if a little rough around the edges game. It's definitely tough, dying sends you back a long way, and access to the save point can be few and far between, so be careful! It took me a bit to get into the gameplay, but after getting into the groove I've definitely been enjoying it! The music is nice, I especially liked the theme of the coolant system area, which had a nice groove to it. For the most part, movement is smooth, though aiming is only in eight directions, despite being controlled by the mouse, which I thought was a bit of an odd choice. Still, I didn't have any problems with it once I adjusted, but I do believe that free aim might still be preferable. I love the look of the menus, something about just how complex they look visually is really appealing to me. My biggest complaint is that a lot of sources of damage aren't telegraphed very well visually. The animation that burning floors give off is subtle enough that you might dismiss it as a background detail the first few times you see it. I also feel that the main weapon never has enough Oomph to it, even after upgrading. Some more visual flair for shooting would be nice. It'd be nice if dialogue didn't interrupt gameplay, so I could keep moving while the characters spoke. Still, dialogue is skippable, so it didn't cause much trouble when I died and had to go back through the same areas. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this a try! This is a promising game, and I hope to see more cool stuff from the developer in the future!
It lacks too much to be considered a full game. The music is nice, but the clunky UI is just barely passable.
Super nices platform shooter I've had the pleasure to play the moment was out. Variety of upgrades to adjust to your preferred playstyle and a intriguing/amusing story.
I usually don't know if a game is going to be trash or not from the first 5 minutes, but this one is an exception. Bugs, the physics are HORRIBLE, terrible, terrible writing and an annoying character that most likely sticks with you, the sound effects are bad, your weapons are horrible, etc. Skip. Also, the game starts off muted from the in-game settings for some reason.
Few games manage to trap me like this! Such a great metroid-like style game, satisfying platforming gameplay that rewards those who tend to take things steady. Leveling up feels quite rewarding, specially after beating those though bosses. Very intriging and mysterious story, yet quite a colorfull and fun dialog and characters. Totally recomend it!
