A wonderful, relaxing collection of puzzles. I'm really surprised this never took off given the popularity of the developer's next game, Stephen's Sausage Roll. The puzzling is a bit simpler here than in SSR, but it's no less satisfying. I've had it for over a decade and replayed it twice now. The length and depth of the game far exceeds its asking price. If you're a puzzle fan, there's little reason not to check this out.
Hi! Steven. Cool game. I think It will be better with Chinese language support.

Hidden gem of a puzzle game that's wormed its way into my head. I just finished Stephen's Sausage Roll, was craving more difficult puzzle games, and saw this as increpare's other game. While at the height of playing SSR, I'd be distracted in my day to day life, rolling sausages around in my head as I talked to people. This game has achieved a similar Tetris effect in that since I started I can't stop rotating shapes and moving rectangles in my head. When I'm stuck on a puzzle I'll play it in my head as I go to sleep and on one occasion have had to get out of bed because the solution came to me.
English Country Tune, developed and published by increpare games, is an abstract puzzle game that stands apart through its willingness to challenge not just the player’s logic, but their assumptions about how puzzles themselves should work. At first glance, it resembles a traditional block-pushing game, but that familiarity quickly dissolves as it begins to introduce ideas that reshape the player’s understanding of space, movement, and interaction. It is a game that constantly asks the player to adapt, often requiring a complete shift in perspective from one set of puzzles to the next. The early stages ease players in with relatively straightforward mechanics, encouraging them to move objects across grids and reach designated goals. However, this foundation is only temporary. As the game progresses, it introduces a wide range of systems that alter how objects behave, how movement is interpreted, and even how space itself functions. What begins as a simple exercise in positioning evolves into something far more complex, where the rules are not always immediately clear and must be discovered through experimentation. This constant reinvention keeps the experience fresh, but it also demands a high level of mental flexibility. One of the most distinctive aspects of English Country Tune is its use of three-dimensional space. Unlike many puzzle games that operate on flat grids, it requires players to consider depth and perspective, often navigating structures that can be viewed and interacted with from multiple angles. This adds a layer of complexity that transforms even basic actions into multidimensional problems. Understanding how objects relate to each other in this space becomes a puzzle in itself, and success often depends on visualizing how different elements interact beyond the immediate viewpoint. The game’s structure is divided into multiple worlds, each introducing new mechanics or variations on existing ones. These worlds do not simply build on each other in a linear fashion; instead, they often redefine the rules entirely, requiring players to abandon previous strategies and learn new ones. This approach creates a sense of unpredictability, as players cannot rely solely on what they have already mastered. While this keeps the experience engaging, it can also make progress feel uneven, with some puzzles solved quickly through insight and others requiring extended periods of trial and error. A defining characteristic of the game is its lack of explicit guidance. There are no detailed tutorials or step-by-step explanations; players are expected to figure out how each system works on their own. This design choice fosters a strong sense of discovery, as understanding a new mechanic feels like solving a puzzle in itself. However, it also contributes to the game’s difficulty, as players may spend significant time trying to interpret the rules before they can even begin to solve the puzzle. This balance between discovery and frustration is central to the experience. Visually, the game adopts a minimalist and abstract style that keeps the focus on the puzzles. Environments are composed of simple geometric forms, often floating in space, with little in the way of decorative detail. This clarity ensures that players can concentrate on the mechanics without distraction, though it also gives the game a somewhat detached atmosphere. The soundtrack provides a counterpoint to this, offering a calm and melodic background that softens the intensity of the mental challenges and helps maintain a steady pace. Despite its many strengths, the game’s design is not without its drawbacks. The difficulty can be inconsistent, with some puzzles feeling significantly more challenging than others, sometimes without a clear progression. The abstract nature of its mechanics may also make it difficult for some players to engage, particularly those who prefer more intuitive or guided experiences. Additionally, once puzzles have been solved, there is little incentive to revisit them, as the enjoyment is largely tied to the process of discovery rather than repetition. Even so, English Country Tune succeeds in delivering a puzzle experience that feels genuinely original. It is a game that prioritizes ideas over accessibility, offering a series of challenges that require players to think in ways that are often unconventional. When solutions are found, they carry a strong sense of accomplishment, as they often represent a shift in understanding rather than simply the application of learned patterns. In the end, English Country Tune is a demanding but rewarding puzzle game that stands out through its creativity and depth. It may not be immediately approachable, but for players willing to engage with its systems and embrace its abstract logic, it offers a uniquely satisfying experience that lingers well beyond its completion. Rating: 8/10
Very tricky and mind-bending puzzle game with great visual design
