an excellent 4x
Now that I have finally played each faction, and played entirely through a few matches with some friends, I feel like I know the game well enough to leave a review. Cutting right to the chase: Endless Legends 2 is currently a 7 out of 10 for me. One thumbs up, would definitely recommend. However it is very much an early release. You still see the same events, same wonders, same special heroes, and so on every game you play. Eventually the variety of these aspects needs to increase enough that you are once again left wondering what you might find each game, rather than only wondering where X thing is on the map. Combat is a lot of fun, but it too lacks in overall variety. Heroes dominate the battlefield rather than supplementing troops in interesting ways. Often times a combat devolves into a warrior death blowing everything into oblivion while the troops act as a meat shield to ensure your hero does not awkward get surrounded before everything is dead. It’s a wonderful start however, and has the potential to be fantastic. The last thing I really want to touch on is the economy. I LOVE how the key resources all achieve feeling necessary, and while Tech is still king, you need to have some decent dust/production to actually make improvements, food for pop which can be powerful resource producers, and influence to actually grow your empires territory. Neglecting too many of these resources will see you falling behind, regardless of your tech lead. A special mention to how every faction has excellently unique playstyles with unique ways to use certain resources, yet all can prove powerful. If any faction felt like it would be lacking, it could only be the Necrophage. Often times the restriction of only one city is just too much of a detriment to currently be overcome, though they can still achieve glorious results even if it requires more effort. And that’s it, a great game worth your time, and hopefully a glorious game in the future with more updates. Will for sure update this review once those updates do come, and they are coming!
This will be one of the better 4X games even before it leaves Early Access. The game is not there yet, but the potential and the determination to attain the goal are. The developers are truly pursuing community-driven development; the weaknesses I've seen and read are being addressed, more than one at a time. I'm glad there are increasingly more games being developed like this.
Absolutely crushing it with the updates and responsiveness to feedback from the community
better every update
Great game, looking forward to more civs
Big fan of the publisher's other work, and if you like those games in particular, this will feel right at home yet I'm also loving the unique take they're putting into this. I personally like this more than the last 2 Civ games (6-7), with Civ 3 being my all-time favorite.
Amplitude strategy games have always been some of my favorites, this game is shaping up to be even more enjoyable than the first entry in the series.
I came to this game with relatively low expectations - not because of Amplitude or Hooded Horse, but general cynicism and jadedness to EA games. I loved EL1, ES1-2, Humankind etc, so I knew I would enjoy EL2, but boy was I surprised! Given this is still very much an EA title, it has the bones of an EXTREMELY solid 4X game. I cannot wait for this to be fleshed out further and more updates. This is probably one of the only recent EA titles to not disappoint. Keep it up AS & HH!!
