A beautiful game that offers a great bedrock for a wonderful 4X experience. At the moment of the review the game offers a solid combat system of fast skirmishes, a City Development system that is more granular than CIv6 while offering the same sense of sprawling wonder and a great sense of alien epic. I wish the UI was less noisy and more functional tho. Highly recommended if you don't mind a 4X which tends on the minimal side (at this moment)
Early access has been really fun, Replay-ability is there. I wish mid/late game was a tad bit slower, and wasn't muddled. Victory conditions a bit to easy to get to. And to me it takes away from the story- Last era is a blip. Hope 1.0 adds more to what's already beautiful. Would like to see: Restart Button on menu instead of leaving and remaking every game. Slower 2nd and 3rd Era. Monsoon/Phase feels to short. Last phase could be prolong by harder win conditions? idk. just feels to fast- All in all, Gorgeous graphics, Beautiful orchestrated music, Easy UI / good tooltip. Love the game so far. Cant wait for 1.0
The characters and faction storylines feel very "modern audiencey," first and foremost, which definitely made me roll my eyes, but wasn't so bad that I couldn't stand finishing a campaign. (I played a different faction during the tutorial so I know what its like for at least 2 of the 5 factions.) Only 5 factions to play with feels pretty sparse. The combat is pretty simplistic, kind of a rock paper scissors between the 4-5 different arche-types of units. It's fine, not great but not terrible. What was really disappointing was that at the end of a 20 hour campaign, it just gave me some camera shake, the sound of the earth rumbling, and that was it. Game over, here's your stats and graphs showing how each faction progressed through the turns and all that. But no final quest texts, no voice-over, no resolution or explanation to anything.

A good game but cannot recommend in a honest manner with all of the bugs. Not sure what is the point of EA when games still choose to release like this. Just some bugs I've encountered: - Missing text / dummy text - Locked units that cannot be interacted with - Missing and disappearing combat resolution messages - Inconsistent / uncounted / missing bonuses - SFX disappearing mid-game completely Reading the various message boards, seems there are lots more that affected my playthroughs in various ways (false information, bugged interactions). A good game, a pretty lackluster EA story/release. Apparently they are working on bugs this month, so let's see after a bit if situation improves and this game is worthy of a honest recommendation.
A currently unpolished mess, marred in a myriads of issues from bugs, half-baked systems to abysmal writing. While the Tides/Monsoon mechanics offer an interesting switch, making exploration relevant up to midgame, other systems are incredibly barebones : diplomacy lacks options to leverage influence over other players, fortresses are a case of "done them once, done them all" and some win conditions can very easily become unobtainable due to circumstances out of your control (securing 12 fortresses for a win condition out of only 12 existing on the map makes no sense : each one can only be done once and some will be locked on another continent for 100+ turns where other factions will definitely get to it first) Factions are rather distinct, both in mechanics and presentation : it goes a long way to give them very unique identities and make different playthroughs worth the effort. Unfortunately bugs, poor UI and unexplained concepts are a constant pain throughout. Units will simply not move despite no lack of move points, necrophages consuming space resources will seemingly provide no bonuses despite description to the contrary, so on and so forth. Never such a fascinating setting has seemed so incredibly bland and dull, due to terrible narrative decisions. All quests are now narrated through dialog most often between a faction leader and their advisor, and most of the time following the exact same template for all of the factions. This unfortunately compounds into several issues :

Quest/Event dialog being reused for all of the factions make them all indistinguishable from one another despite what the game establishes as very distinct people and philosophies. This often leads to hilarious clashes of tones. Shoutout to the cannibalistic necrophage that would devour foes and friends alike suddenly having a mental breakdown over "war is sad".
The very lacking presentation during dialogs and their tendency to drag on make them absolute slog to go through, making the skip button more than tempting on many occasions. Made even worse thanks to utterly bland and boring writing.
Faction leaders have next to no personality and dull voice acting. You need only compare the necrophages leader to its cravers equivalent to make the former look like a whimpy cockroach trying to gnaw your kneecaps. They're less a symbolification of their respective factions and more a caricature at this point.
This is even more infuriating when compared to its predecessors who managed to have their narrations both more immersive and less intrusive, while EL2 barely crawls. EL2 has elements worth praising but just as many that plague the experience, some of them requiring a complete overhaul at this point. While there is hope Amplitude could turn things around, I won't be holding my breath.
I really enjoyed this game at the beginning, being a casual strategy gamer that has had a cursory enjoyment in games like Civ before and always been intimidated by the overcomplex nature of Total War-like games. The game started out perfectly in the middle of those 2 in having far more interesting combat than Civ with hero mechanics without needing to have an actual battle strategy knowledge like TW. HOWEVER. The game rapidly lost appeal to me when the battles went from about even to suddenly watching my supposed hero doing less damage than enemy elite units and getting 1 shot by enemy basic units. The Doomwraiths and corruption mechanic feel like you're just supposed to suffer their debuffs on your cities until late game when you have enough damage to kill them in an arbitrary 8 turn limit (which applies to every battle). I also enjoyed the quest mechanics up until the point they started to spawn completely stuck behind AI nation territories which the moment you step into the AI throws a hissy and their armies drop everything else to stop you from interacting with a core mechanic. Might give the game a go again another time, but right now my opinion of the game went from an upward trend to falling off a cliff.
1/10 I have been a fan of the Endless Franchise, but this game was terribly disappointing. I understand its in early access, but it is worse in almost every way than EL1. Selections are minimal with mechanics that are unrefined and frustrating. Nothing feels better than EL1 and that is really odd. Is like they took all the good things from EL1 and dropped them and focused on all new mechanics that are gimmick-ish at best. Specifics: Races: They feel intentionally pushed into a hard gameplay loop. You do it the game mechanic way, or you fail. Very few options to choose from as well. Hero: Feel lackluster and predefined. Some are great and some just hard suck. To be competitive you have to focus on certain hero types and if you cant find them you suffer. Skills are blocked, so you have to buy crap you don't need/want. Items feel more powerful than the hero. World: The receding coasts... after a flood... just seems... stupid. So no coastal city planning... no ships... the map changes constantly. Makes city planning very strange. Perhaps it will feel better when thy have had time to add to it.
Don't bother until they fix the broken combat system. I couldn't even get through the tutorial because the AI kept declaring unscripted wars on me, preventing me from actually playing through the story. Hopefully they fix this game, because it honestly has potential, but until then, don't waste your money.
