Game is too extreme survival. Its very hard to figure out how to play and craft. I also believe the game wasn't working correctly. I was harvesting stuff but the resources were not showing up in the inventory. Refund requested
Great game! It is just you vs. nature. Totally stone age, not even a washed up plastic bottle on shore. Many folks may benefit from starting in the easiest level for a few game days, just to get their bearings. Also spending some time in the codex will help too. Don't worry about looking at the spoilers, they are mostly common sense and don't really spoil the game. They certainly don't offer any advice on how to get off the island. I am into my third summer on my current game, and have no idea how to escape. For me that is a fun challenge. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
I think the dev has something but in its current state I can not recommend it. As it updates I will change my review. Lows: -Personally I absolutely despise survival games incorporating an extended period of time into the crafting aspect of the game. It adds nothing except time wasted. -There is no way to change audio volume in the menu so make sure you turn down your system volume unless you like being deafened by ambient environment noises. -You can not change the resolution after starting a save, the resolution breaks for ultrawide support, hiding parts of the GUI that are required for crafting. -The incorporation of left click, right click, and F to conduct actions is not really intuitive and seems like it was made based on vibes and not what players expect these buttons to do. Highs: -The basic tutorial walks you through and introduces you to the game without putting an arrow on every item you need, Roblox-style, letting you explore the game with appropriate assistance. -The issues I encountered were not deep gameplay bugs and should not require a development of a new game. The base structure of a Long Dark type of survival game is there, it just needs a healthy gloss of QoL improvements and then it will be an easy recommend for me.
Неплохо. С первой попытки зиму не смог пережить, но чем больше узнаешь игру, тем интереснее становится играть. Багов практически не обнаружено.
This game doesn't receive the love it deserves. No, it isn't anything fancy, the visuals are somewhat basic, and the controls are a little clunky at times. But, a lot of thought has been put into it, it has some really great intuitive mechanics, and the gameplay loop is well paced. The changing of seasons and weather events keep you on your toes and there's always something that needs to be given thought and attention to. You really need to think ahead or you'll pay the price. I spent a couple game days just learning the mechanics and necessities before I started over on a more permanent run through. I'm still playing on easy with aggressive wildlife off and am imagining how difficult aggressive wildlife would make it. Easy mode isn't really that easy, but at least you can focus on yourself and not tiptoeing around the map before you're ready to engage wildlife. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the map. It's in a very literal sense a maze. There's nothing natural about it and it makes reaching new areas very challenging, but not in a good way. Despite this, it will have the effect of extending the experience quite a bit and, for $15, that ain't that bad.
I really wanted to give this game a thumbs up, but honestly, I can’t. It feels very unfinished, weak in a lot of areas, and full of bugs that make progression either frustrating or straight up impossible at times. There are trees everywhere, yet you have to spend two in-game days running around a stone biome looking for granite just to make an axe. Regular stone does not work. If you don’t find it, you’ll be cooking food on random sticks that occasionally fall from trees — and sometimes there are none nearby at all. Can you break branches off trees by hand? Of course not. That would ruin the “realistic survival” experience 🤡 Want to build something better than a shelter made of leaves? Get ready for a lovely adventure trying to find oak saplings, because they’re used in basically every structure. After wandering around the map for ages, I finally found a tiny biome with three oak trees in it. Maybe there are more somewhere, but that’s all I managed to find. And the map itself is incredibly repetitive and boring. Locations all look the same and nothing really stands out or feels memorable. The final straw for me was during a flood event, when dirt suddenly stopped turning into mud, which completely blocked my building progress. The game literally tells you dirt becomes mud when soaked in river water. But when the flood raises the water level, apparently that’s some different magical water because the mechanic just stops working. I could forgive this in Early Access, but not in a full release version. Overall, the game suffers from the same problem a lot of “hardcore survival” games do: in an attempt to make survival feel realistic, the developer ends up making players die because they can’t find some very specific twig or rock. If this was Early Access, I probably would’ve left a positive review. But I bought it specifically because it was advertised as a full release, and right now I honestly feel a bit misled. Hopefully I’ll get a reason to change this review later.
I've played a lot of survival crafting games, and I have to say this is definitely one of the best. Excellent graphics, thoughtful crafting, suspense, and above all, the developers are present and attentive to every comment. Congratulations on the game! Don't hesitate to buy it, it's guaranteed to be fun.
I have run into a problem. I have an ultrawide monitor (49in). There is no option for windowed and no matter which resolution I pick it does full screen. When I land on the island I am stuck in the 1st text screen and unable to move past it. I assume that there is a button that I need to press to continue but it must be at the bottom. I would post a picture to illustrate if I could. The text "Good Luck and don't Starve" is halfway below the bottom of my screen.
Booted up my first world, gathered enough sticks for a campfire and as soon as I go to light it, it starts raining. Move to a rock overhang for dryland and then light my campfire. Go to make shelter. Its too big to fit in the overhang. fire runs out of fuel. freeze to death. Great game, treats me exactly the way I hoped it would.
