__________________________________________________ どれもこれも中途半端、基本プレイ無料ゲー以下の内容、なんだったら有志のインディーゲームの方がいいもの作ってるぞ。
This is just an impossible game to recommend to anybody, literally. Which is an absolute shame, because you do see the potential this game had, the game is absolutely beautiful, the combat from your side is well integrated within the SAO world and it is fun to play, the worldbuilding is interesting, and the build variety is very good. Like the potential is incredible, but I wouldn't even recommend it to a SAO fan, SO MANY moronic decisions that absolutely do NOT make for an enjoyable experience of a game that is long. TL;DR: Huge empty zones, where you cannot explore the whole world and will be teleported back if attempted to; on which you are pretty much just going to be sprinting and one-shotting randomly placed enemies, trying to find your way through the horrendous level design that could have been great if exploration existed in the game, dealing with the AWFUL ambushes out of the blue that can get you one-shotted by enemies that didn't even exist 1 second before, only to keep advancing in a main story that is not even slightly interesting and that it ends abruptly, while doing extremely few secondary quests that bring nothing new to the table 1. Non-existent exploration, the world is completely empty, nothing really to explore beyond some chests that 90% of the time have generic items even tho some of them are VERY hard to reach, and some lore tidbits here and there, but NOTHING else, like seriously, one of THE worst explorations on any game I have ever played; 2. World Map based on zones: WHY, WHO thought this was a good idea, I don't mind only having floor 1 and 2 from the 100, that is totally fine, but why are we limited to zones when we can clearly see other zones, but when you try to reach them you get teleported back to your confines, like I would have understand it IF the zones had interesting content, but they are completely empty. Why is there nothing in terms of exploration or players?????? Why make it zone based if you are still going to leave them empty? 3. Level design: absolutely horrendous, there are no visual queues as to how to reach some areas, and you move quite slow, and the zones are VERY big, yet empty, so you are not really prompt to explore, because why would you do it if there is nothing there? But of course you still want to see if the chest has a blueprint, this can take HOURS in some zones to get all chests. 4. Combat: Probably one of the most infuriating things, is the random instant ambushes. WHO thought this was a good idea. Sometimes, you will see an enemy, and go fight him, only for 4-6 new enemies that weren't there to appear next to you, and to instantly attack you, which is extremely easy that you can get killed here because stun lock is a thing, you can literally have 0 seconds of reaction to an instant death (which caused me to lose my first Death Mode playthrough). This coupled with the amount of stuns that some bosses have, make playing on Death Mode completely useless and not satisfactory. WHY are you allowed only to carry 1 companion? They are absolutely useless except for their active skills, we are supposedly playing an MMORPG and we are limited to 1 companion? 5. Cities: Also completely dead, tons of NPCs and you can only speak with 3-5 of them, the traders and your companions. You do find some lore tidbits, which is very cool, but why aren't all of this NPCs out there in the world when you go out? Why is the world completely empty? 6. Story: Just unremarkable across the board, your characters is literally an spectator in the story of another character, the story is uninteresting and ends completely out of the blue. 7. Inventory/Pouch: Another moronic decision, you cannot change weapons when on the open world, even tho in SAO you could; you cannot change items when in the open world, and you need some items to fully explore zones, so if you forgot to bring them, you either dont care to explore (since its empty and that chest is probably going to have 8000 col) or you have to go back to town, get them, and go out again. 8. Progression systems: The money of the game, col, is completely useless, you barely use it and it's too abundant; improving weapons is a pain in the ass the more you advance, it is VERY slow.
The Jump Force of RPGs. At this point it's on me for believing a Bandai Game might be half decent. The combat is shallow as hell but kinda fun, the enemies are insanely repetitive, the environment is worse than a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mobile phone gacha game level made in 2014, animations and stuff are buggy and whack, tons of clipping, tons of bugs. This game was very obviously made for pennies on the dollar to exploit idiots like myself with borderline if not completely false advertising giving us literally nothing that was promised in the ads. The game has like maybe 7 different enemies that it just repeats and reskins to fight over and over again and then just adds more of them per fight to make it harder, but didn't actually put any thought or design into it because I'm on Very Hard Death Game mode and I almost die getting hit one time because the 4 bosses I'm fighting at once all have a knockup and I have no i-frames on the ground so I'm just stuck in an infinite stagger loop praying I don't lose my save because these lazy ♥♥♥♥♥ couldn't even bother to play the game they made. There are even barriers in the game that say "you cannot go here yet" that you can literally just jump around because so little thought was put into the game, they literally didn't even expect you to just jump over the railing next to the blocked door. That is the summary and essence of the entire game, cool idea and concept but executed by some 63yr old boomer who has never even heard of Sword Art Online and just directed a team of what must be suicidal levels of depressed game devs that just don't care anymore to make the latest Bandai slop that expects to make money because we are retarded enough to buy things branded with anime names. Don't even get it on sale. It isn't worth it and Bandai won't learn their lesson.
I really wish I wasn't the guy leaving a negative review with 60+ hours in the game; however, I think my reasons are sound. I am a fan of SAO and I believe that my interest in the setting is why I could push through many of this game's faults. Yes, the game uses reskinned and resized enemies. Yes, the skill point system leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, there is a lot of walking/running through large maps that don't always have clear indications of how to get to where you need to be. Yes, maps can feel repetitive, tedious, and boring. Personally speaking, none of these were issues that totally ruined my experience, but again that is mainly due to my interest in the franchise and the narrative potential this game had to offer. Rather than focusing on the same issues that you can find countless reviews discussing, I'd like to discuss my biggest gripe with the game which is one that I don't see many people talking about (possibly because most players don't get this far...). I thought that one of the game's strongest qualities early on was the narrative, and I think most fans of the series would find the first half of the story enjoyable, if (and this is a big if) you can get over the fact that your character is completely silent. Apart from this, the story held my interest, and I was interested in the characters they were introducing. Up until I wasn't. As the game progresses, characters introduced to the story become more and more unlikeable and irrelevant to the plot. Characters who join the main party have weak reasons for doing so and any immersion you had left at this point is broken when you and your party just willingly tolerate these annoying characters without any real character development or change in their problematic behavior. Lastly, the game really shoots itself in the foot with an abrupt, unsatisfying, and forced ending. I was not particularly bothered by how it ended, but rather the lack of any meaningful build up or resolution that the ending provided. It was jarring how many new characters or story beats were being introduced in the last 80% of the game just for none of it to go anywhere or be properly set up for the future (such as the planned DLC or a potential sequel title). I've probably ranted long enough. Again, the game is not without it faults, and even if I still would not have objectively recommended the game, I was genuinely enjoying my time with it for 80% of the journey. At that point, many of the tedious aspects of the game started to wear on me, and coupled with a sharply declining narrative, I found myself not enjoying the game much at all by the end. I finished it, and I can't say I didn't get any enjoyment out of my experience, but it does suck to be left with a sour taste in my mouth after my experience with the last 20% of the game. I agree with many other reviewers; if you are interested in trying the game definitely get it when it is on a significant sale. Regardless of if you are a fan of SAO or not, if your experience would be ruined by the (lack of) quality of the story, I would say this game even on sale is probably not worth your time.
Horrible game dont buy it
