Worth 50 cents. 100k achievement was not well thought out and is heavily RNG based. I got 1st place legit in the world with 74k in half an hour. So the leaderboard is easy.

DROPSOL is a fast-paced arcade title developed and published by LGV that embraces the timeless appeal of classic score-chasing games. Built around simple controls and an endless gameplay loop, it strips away unnecessary mechanics in favor of delivering a focused experience where every run is an opportunity to improve. Instead of relying on story-driven progression or unlock-heavy systems, the game challenges players to survive for as long as possible while navigating an ever-changing descent packed with hazards. This straightforward design gives DROPSOL an immediately accessible feel while still leaving plenty of room for skill development. The gameplay centers on guiding Jim as he continuously falls through a vertical environment using a parasol that functions as both a defensive tool and a strategic resource. The parasol slows his descent, making movement easier to control, but it is far from indestructible. Every collision gradually wears it down, forcing players to balance careful maneuvering with preservation of its durability. This mechanic adds meaningful tension because the parasol cannot simply be relied upon indefinitely. Knowing when to risk damage and when to avoid obstacles entirely becomes an essential part of mastering the game. The endless nature of the stages is supported by procedurally generated obstacle layouts that ensure no two attempts are exactly alike. Steel beams, barriers, and other dangers appear in unpredictable patterns, demanding constant concentration and quick reflexes. Although the controls remain simple, the increasing pace and changing obstacle arrangements keep each session engaging. The game successfully recreates the addictive "just one more run" mentality associated with classic arcade experiences, where even a narrow defeat encourages players to immediately start another attempt in pursuit of a higher score. Collectible power-ups introduce additional depth without overwhelming the game's minimalist philosophy. Some pickups restore the parasol's durability, extending survival and rewarding careful exploration during a run. Others temporarily grant invincibility, allowing players to smash through otherwise deadly obstacles for a brief period. Interestingly, the game also includes power-ups that increase movement speed at the expense of reducing the player's score, creating an appealing risk-versus-reward system. Instead of automatically collecting everything that appears, players are encouraged to evaluate whether each item benefits their long-term scoring strategy. Visually, DROPSOL embraces pixel art aesthetics inspired by the golden age of arcade gaming. The colorful sprites and clean visual presentation prioritize readability, ensuring that obstacles remain easy to identify even when the gameplay becomes increasingly frantic. Rather than aiming for visual realism, the game focuses on charm and clarity, producing an art style that complements its retro-inspired mechanics. The environments remain intentionally simple, allowing the action to stay at the forefront while reinforcing the nostalgic atmosphere. The audio presentation also contributes to the overall experience with energetic music and responsive sound effects that fit the game's rapid pace. Every successful pickup, collision, and activation of a special ability is accompanied by clear audio feedback, making gameplay feel satisfying and responsive. While the soundtrack may not be extensive, it effectively maintains momentum throughout each run and reinforces the excitement of chasing personal best scores. Replay value is where DROPSOL truly excels. Automatic score tracking, Steam achievements, and online leaderboards encourage players to refine their skills and compete with others for better rankings. Because each session is relatively short, it is easy to jump in for a quick game while still feeling motivated to improve after every defeat. This constant cycle of learning, adapting, and striving for higher scores gives the game lasting appeal despite its intentionally compact scope. Although players seeking lengthy campaigns or deep progression systems may find the content limited, that simplicity is also one of the game's greatest strengths. DROPSOL remains focused on delivering polished arcade gameplay without unnecessary distractions, resulting in an experience that respects the traditions of classic score attack titles while introducing enough unique mechanics to establish its own identity. LGV has created a polished indie arcade game that is easy to learn, challenging to master, and consistently enjoyable for fans of retro-inspired action games. Rating: 7/10
