I've always assumed I have a mild case of thalassophobia and this stellar indie debut confirmed it fantastically! Dredge had been on my radar for quite some time and when the complete edition went on sale, I took the plunge and finally got to sink my teeth into it. From the gorgeous art direction that's constantly oozing personality, to the OST that pairs so well to swell the game with atmosphere, the game as a whole is dripping with identity! Its inspired lore and worldbuilding, the characters, and gameplay loop are just so satisfying to experience which makes this a definite must-play for all gaming tastes. I highly recommend Dredge to anyone in need of an eerie but methodical jaunt in between action/FPS games. Play it alone in the dead of night, with a single dim light source, to get the full haunted maritime experience.
This game has drawn inspiration from so many things I love about other games yet it is entirely new and unique. It surpasses other games in premise, execution and expansion of those aspects. I think you'll feel the same way after finishing it. I could write pages of accolades to this game and draw parallels that cause spoilers so ill keep it simple; if you like TLOZ wind Waker, catching Pokemon, dead by daylight, subnautica, H.P. Lovecraft, dont starve, resident evil 4 and cozy-horror vibes - you will love this game. I highly recommend getting the DLC and checking it out beginning your playthrough - as opposed to getting it after finishing the game. The DLC elevates the experience to 11/10.

DREDGE — 18.6 hrs Fun 8 · Skill Ceiling 6 · Onboarding Tax 3 · Jank Tax 8 · Dad Tax 8 The Verdict: 7.5/10 — "Worth the sleep debt." Every game on my backlog wants to be a system I optimize. DREDGE just wanted me to go fishing, and then, very quietly, started ruining my sleep in a completely different way than usual. You putter around in a boat, sell your catch, upgrade the hull, and the game lets you believe for a while that this is a cozy loop about tides and tackle boxes. It is not. Stay out past dark and the water starts lying to you — fog rolls in wrong, the compass gets ideas, and you realize the fatigue meter isn't cosmetic, it's a leash. 18.6 hours was exactly enough to see the whole shape of it: contained, deliberate, no padding stapled on to hit a runtime target. I finished it and didn't feel like I'd been asked to grind for the privilege. The horror side is more dread than jump-scare, which suits someone whose actual fear response was permanently recalibrated by two kids and a P&L. The tension comes from a simple, honest rule — don't be greedy, don't be out too late — and watching yourself break that rule anyway because there's one more fish in the net. If I've got a gripe, it's that the game tips its hand on its mysteries a little early; once you've seen the trick twice, some of the uncertainty drains out. Still lands more often than not. This is the rare backlog title that respects the fact that I have thirty minutes and not three hours. Short sessions work. Nothing punishes you for logging off mid-tide. Verdict: a tight, well-made scare wearing a fishing hat, and it knows exactly when to end. 👍 — for anyone who wants dread in bite-sized sessions, not a 100-hour system to master.
