This game is not playable. It runs at 9FPS, there are zero players online, nothing works, combat is not functional, etc. If there is a feature, it is broken. Steer very clear of this game. Steam needs to implement standards to remove games that are still months, if not years, away from even an alpha state.
UPDATE: I got made aware that he changed his Early Access wording shortly after my review. Changing anywhere he said "we" to "I", and that it will now be out in a few years instead of within a year. Really glad that my review apparently extended how long until the game is out and that he was made aware that he is doing this alone. Not sure how you can mistake any of that unless this is a crypto currency miner that will never actually be completed. (Editing to mention a major red flag: At the server selection alone before even entering the game it takes up 25% of my CPU and 11GB of RAM. My GPU is also at 24% usage, even when the game is in the background or minimized. Typically what happens when a game is being used to disguise a crypto currency miner. I am using an i9 9900k with a RTX 2080 Super. Everything just increases even more when getting into the game). A pre-alpha MMO with microtransactions. This developer believes his game is worth money, so it will be judged as such. Daily Login rewards are pay-walled if you want more than double the available free rewards. Great. Guessing there won't be any character wipes by release since there was no disclaimer that what you pay for could be gone at some point. I respect anyone who is trying to make a game of this scale on their own, but if they plan to be out of Early Access within a year (going off information they provided) and this is what they have? This game came out in Jan 2021 as a pre-alpha. So play this and imagine how it will be in Jan 2022 as a full release. An MMO in pre-alpha, developed by apparently a single developer. However he does mention "we" in the Early Access. Quite a few contradictions that I have found. And definitely note that the developer is a hobbyist when it comes to game development, which typically means they have a full-time job and this is a side thing he does for fun as a hobby. They only have keybinds set up to change WASD and according to a forum post from the developer it would take a week or 2 to setup keybinds for more things. And they want this game out in less than a year. Graphically the game is ok. You will find a lot of floating objects that look to just be thrown down. Combat at the start is you pressing the 1 key after targeting the mob and going to get a drink or use the bathroom if you need to. No, I don't have a whole lot of time in this game, and I don't plan on having anymore. There are so many red flags with this games development plan that I can't take it serious at all. Hopefully he is getting feedback from people that understand game development (especially MMO development) and have informed him that this probably won't be finished by Jan 2022 unless what you see now is mostly what you will get and they are just in the polishing/bug fixing stage, although that would mean its in beta and not pre-alpha. Good luck.

I'm going to start with stating the following fact: this dev has made more of a video game than most of us, including me, let alone, an MMORPG. Let's not disillusion ourselves, the game feels more like a tinkering project the dev is using to learn how to code in Unity. Because this is a review of the GAME and not the DEV, I'm going to get my grievances out of the way first: 1. Graphics are reminiscent of late-90s. 2. The music cuts out- ambient music is important to an MMO, to me, even if some people turn it down or off. 3. It's not intuitive. Despite these "tutorial" missions, I had no idea what to do. Not all of the controls are laid out. 4. The text speed is a bit too slow. It would be nice to be able to skip text or force it to all print at once, like with a click. 5. The ambient sounds, such as those of the cow, completely startled me. They are odd, and way too loud. 6. Despite standing still, my computer's GPU (A 12GB RTX 3060), was running at 77% utilization. I suspect this is due to the developer's inexperience, which results in a combination of a bad allocation of resources, as well as having the entire world be generated the entire time (meaning no cut scenes or "rooms") when it is entirely 3D. If you are wondering about the cryptomining/cryptojacking allegations, I will address these in a minute. Especially with the current standards of MMOs (WoW, Black Desert, Lost Ark, FFXIV, even Runescape and Roblox), gamers who seek out MMOs (and usually play more than one) have expectations way above what is presented here, even if it is just one developer, and not a multi-million dollar company, behind it. Why would we play this, when we have all these other, "better" options, some of which are completely free? The developer is being exceptionally ambitious here, but I think they need to slow down, and take their time. This is not going to be the next Everquest, but I DO believe this is a valuable endeavor for them, regardless if this is a passion hobby, or if they are an aspiring career game developer (or perhaps a game/lore writer?). Overall, I feel nothing but respect for the developer. Again, while I have some coding experience, and I'd love to make a game, I certainly have never pulled the trigger. I originally found this game, because I am writing an article that features gameplay and reviews of the worst-rated MMOs available on Steam and this was not a mobile port and it was at the bottom of the list of games tagged with "MMORPG" when ranked by ratings. This guy is consistently pushing out updates for the game. He also constantly updates the social media and website associated with the game. This, in itself, shows a distinct passion and love for this little project. The dev also responds to questions or concerns quite quickly, including those regarding bugs, indicating when they are fixed. This right here, is more than a lot of "bigger" devs or MMOs do. This game has received mostly negative criticism in reviews and comments, even in a YouTube video, created by a relatively large Gaming YouTuber, with over 447,000 views, 14K likes, and 1100 comments, where it was called the "Worst MMO Ever" and ripped to shreds for all of 31 minutes, and more-so in the comments and, despite this, the developer appears to shrug it off, and keep moving forward. There's no retaliation, and no argument (that I could find), despite some very hurtful words. Even more, there have been multiple allegations of this game's true purpose being "Cryptojacking", or using the player's computer to mine cryptocurrency. The allegations were based on the fact that the game basically abuses the user's PC (specifically, RAM, CPU, and GPU usage) to an absolutely unheard-of level, especially for such a mediocre game. I actually ended up switching my article's subject matter from "Bad MMOs" to these allegations (it is neither finished, nor published yet), and did my investigation alongside a good friend who works in the cybersecurity industry. I downloaded it onto my PC and played it, and did an extensive look-through. My findings: This is 100% NOT a cryptojacking operation. And here is how I came to that conclusion: 1. Yes, the game utilized an insane amount of resources from my PC. My GPU utilization was consistently at a solid 77% utilization despite my character standing still, and using an RTX 3060, and it was also using around 6 out of 12 GB of RAM that my GPU had. (CPU utilization was a bit lower, but it's less important since Cryptomining almost always use GPUs or ASICs) This is insane, yes. However, a quick look at where my GPU's power was being allocated (which can be seen easily in Task Manager on Windows computers) showed that nearly all, if not all, of it was being put towards 3D rendering. Only 1-3% was being allocated for Computing, which is really normal. I suspect that it's because the world is completely rendered 100% of the time, and there's a lot of assets to add detail, even if most are "low quality". There's a reason why most games use draw distance or "rooms". This is incredibly taxing on machines! 2. I also kept a log of every process/service that was active while the game was open. After researching what each individual one is and what they do thoroughly, I can conclude none of them were unexpected. 3. Next, with the game open, I ran multiple and various Netstat commands on my computer. For those who don't know, when you run a Netstat command in Command Prompt on your PC, it lists out all of the connections your PC is making. You can get the IP it's pinging, the FDQN (the actual website associated with it), and the application that's making your PC make that connection. The only thing DreamScapes is connecting to is its own website. Even so, I checked every single IP address that was listed, and everything was expected. 4. Also, with the game open, I ran a deep scan on my PC. Nothing of note was found. 5. Lastly, I even checked the game's official website itself, since it was connecting. "Driveby Cryptojacking" is when javascript is added to a website's code where, when someone is connected to that website and only then, your PC mines cryptocurrency for them. However, this method is very much less commonly used than it was, as it is not very efficient, and this method also uses a PC's CPU instead of its GPU. Nonetheless, I combed the website's source code, including its javascript, and found no evidence of Cryptomining code. As a side note, the hosting for the website and the game are based in the UK, as well as the developer. Not to make assumptions, and this is not a strict requirement, but most cryptojacking originates from Asia and East Europe. So yeah, dude, keep on! I survived this game till level 8. I have no words for how awful the experience was.
Well quite a bad game asset-flip-feeling-game with horrible performance and completely random design with clumsy and slow combat system and randomized player progression and completely random level design, tho for a one man project I didnt had any issue with the server as it was handling a huge amount of 2 player (me included). - use up to 10 - 15 gb of RAM. - Hardly reach 60 fps. - Game new player experiance is horrible its kinda made like if you expect anyone that comes in to already know everything. - Have a full-working shop already in the game despite the current game state (tho hey making game isnt free right?). - Game is full of bug mine were : - Minimap not working properly (flickering, not showing yourself, showing all black, button does nothing). - Gotta be in an "itnerception" course to be able to attack an npc as your character cant attack it fast enought before it get out of range. - "Do you want to dismiss this NPC" *select no* "NPC retired no way of geting it back :(. - Game mini-freeze when clicking on NPC that have nothing to say. - That RAM usage could be considered as a bug , I expect a game like these to use at best 500mb - 1 gb of ram.
"DreamScapes Dimensions" is MMORPG in Pre-Alpha developed by a single developer. Despite watching the video from Josh, I tried to give this game a try, because I find it charming despite it's obvious jank and shortcomings + all the negative reviews by people who never wrote a line of code in their life made me both sad and mad at the same time. Despite all of my good will, I could hardly play "DreamScapes Dimensions". Why? Because the developer decided that he wants an extra challenge. The fact that he's making an MMORPG by himself was not difficult enough, so he's also making it in Unity, an engine notorious for it's performance issues. All jokes aside, the loading is extremely slow, the ping is very high (probably due to server hosting location) and my FPS never went above 30 and I moved at a snail's pace often stopping completely due to game loading stuff in. The graphics are what they are (many will tell you they are ugly), but I still find them charming for some reason. After about 10+ minutes of trying to play the game, I managed to complete 2-3 quests before the game crashed on me. Do you want to know the saddest part? There is a work of love and passion in this mess of a code. You can see it in the world design and game design in general. Yeah, it's basic, but the game's sole developer is trying his best to make the best game he can. I wanted and still want to play this game, despite it being bad, because it provides you with a simple RPG experience that doesn't require a lot from you and it's miles better than trying to play Everquest alone. So here is my advice. What you have here is a simple little RPG with some harvesting and crafting systems. You have procedural dungeons and you have a functioning combat and quest system. Everything is basic, but worse games have been sold for money. There is a niche part of gaming community which likes games like Everquest and RuneScape because of the grind they provide. Even if you finish this game after 30 years of development and make it perfect, nobody in their right mind will play this. Instead, make this game playable offline. Remove all the "online part" of the code and all multiplayer aspects. You will boost the game's performance, you will save the cost of hosting a server and you will let more people who see your love and passion experience this game and enjoy some time grinding and questing at the same time. I know you have dreams. It's not bad to have them. I just think it would be a shame if you let your work be for nothing when people could enjoy it. Please consider doing what I said. I will gladly return to the game and play if you decide to do it. And so will many others who like old dungeon crawlers. I am leaving a positive review to cheer you up. There are people who would like to play your game, whatever negative reviews are making you to believe. Help them play and enjoy your game! Have a good one!
wow
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is so bad. I don't even know what I'm doing. I cannot even comprehend how much adderall this guy was on.... I wasn't even able to use my weapon. This game is borderline unplayable. (Side note windows defender blocked some ♥♥♥♥. wacky)
TL;DR: Game runs on stable 5-10 FPS and I got a bonus heating in the chilly weather, cause my laptop CPU nearly melted. I also have my new lovely profile picture thanks to this masterpiece (shoutout to Waydot, I nearly pissed myself laughing, when he created this atrocious character I gladly reproduced). 10/10, one of the best games I've ever played! No, seriously, this is absolute disaster of a MMO. I encountered several crashes while creating my character, as I moved rich choice of sliders back and forth so much the game couldn't probably stand it anymore. After 3rd attempt I finally succeeded, created my too-cute-to-be-evil busty human female, and entered the world just to be displeased by atrocious hitboxes basically preventing me from interacting with anyone. But whatever, decided to fight my way through. I followed the yellow trail to get my first quest, that led me to area full of skeletons. Wrestled with (s)hitboxes for a while, then it crashed and when I logged back in, I learned I'm dead. OK, fine, cannot give up so easily, huh? I successfully fought skeletons by continuously spamming "1", hoping and foremost praying it'll do anything. Then entered basement full of spiders and... yeah, I died again. My bad this time, been overhyped. In following minutes I learned about various weapon/armor shops, so I grinded my way to earn enough gold to buy some usable armor. Also upgraded my weapon proficiencies by being close to trainers and clicking everything out in the skills menu (stupid, yet somewhat original idea). After that, I successfully cleared out the basement, yet had a hard time opening chest to obtain needed items (finding clickable area was something). After that, story (I didn't give a heck about) directed me to a regular dungeon full of many ingenious creatures (like Scary Rabbit), but after a while I got bored by not being able to attack what I really want, so I rushed my way deeper to some dwarf mines. I decided to end my incredible journey there. Dunno if it was cause of my depressions, or some unwanted hypnosis process in the background (out of possible crypto mining), but I managed to play this for over an hour before I forcibly stopped myself. Or I maybe have just a weakness for bad games. And this one is really, really bad! Looks like crap, plays like crap. But hey, it's free! Pros: - Character editor is actually nice. Many options even most good online games don't have at all. Kudos to female bust slider! Cons: - Everything else.
It's okay in short bursts to scratch the old school itch. There are P2W elements in the game, which is disappointing. Quests are unclear at times and joining a guild so that you can learn class skills is a very complex process. This game is being developed by a single person with no professional game development experience using Unity store assets to make this hobby project. Considering that it is not too bad. I have investigated the claims that this game is a cryptominer and have not found any solid evidence of this. The game does not use any ports common to cryptominers and does not contain any suspicious binaries. My malware scanner does not detect anything either. The truth is that this is just a very poorly optimized game that shows signs of memory leaks and bad design practices. For example, I have observed that the endurance is stored as a float value when it should most likely be stored as a short. No doubt there are many more mistakes like this throughout the code. The game also appears to load all assets at once and keeps them in memory even when they are out of sight or across the world. I have a suspicion that it is also continuously performing path-finding calculations client-side and the combination of these two flaws are causing it to over-utilize CPU and GPU resources.
