just everything i wanted from a certain gatcha, but not a gatcha 100% reccomend
This game feels overhyped...It's good yes but not like 90% positive...I would give it a 7/10. The gameplay and the fights, animations, switching characters itself are smooth Although my graphics card is running hot on this game (could/should be optimized too but I can live with it, its ok). I'm more unhappy about the problems with the "equipment", having not even a handful of useful setitems/equipment at all for each character...thats horrible. yes there are other ways to improve your heros but they are also limited. The sidequests starting so interesting but fall off because they lack a real story...or just stupid/annoying. You can really feel that those are designed for an MMORG like Genshin Impact. There are so many more things that reminds on an MMORG like no pause on menu button, missing scenes when only a black screen with text appears, many story elements not fluent. you need to talk with a person after a cut scene ended standing right next to you and again and again for no reason. Also the scaling in character progression through your equipment and other things feel annoying because you need to click through a lot of menues, agree to many things. It happend often that my changes didn't apply because I needed to double agree to things. It's not that intuitive. It's still ok but it feels more like work then fun and I often skip reading. Many features feel unfinished so you can just play the game. Also my biggest minus is the "DLCs" just for hot outfits for such an expenive price. Also all Quests, sidequests or boss monsters or whatever don't feel rewarding at all because all rewards kinda like all the same. You just get more materials. Of course to improve your equipment your heros but that causes also again in more work.... Because all of that I can't recommend this game.
Advertised as multiplayer and online co-op. Plays completely as single player
Short and to the point: the game is completely overwhelming in the sense that I never really know where I’m supposed to go. I had never played a gacha game before, because the whole pay-to-play slop thing turns me off completely, even though a lot of these games look genuinely good. Dragonsword Awakening therefore felt like a real breath of fresh air at first — but that changed quickly. The game feels very thin, with too many resources you have to collect through various endless grinds. Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Visuals:
It looks okay. The important characters stand out, they’re varied and generally well done. The remaining NPCs, on the other hand, already start looping extremely often in the first two minutes in town. The art style is pretty, but it can’t keep up with other titles in the same genre.
Animations
Hah! HAH! The fights might look spectacular visually, but everything outside of combat is so lazily done. Actions aren’t even shown — they’re just implied. Character A pulls Character B away because they screwed up — you see none of it. The characters just idle around.
Voice acting:
The biggest problem for me is that there’s only the Korean voice track. At the very least an English dub should have been included for the global release.
Controls + combat system:
Giga boring. Auto-attack spam, two action skills, and two combos that can be executed under certain conditions. Some skills let you switch from one character to one of the other two in the active team and trigger their combo skill. That’s fun for the first 2–3 hours, after that it becomes extremely repetitive.
Characters:
Clichéd stereotypes. That’s really all there is to say. You look at the design and immediately know what you’re getting.
Story:
It lost me, because everything in the game world sidetracks you. The story itself is told through quests, most of which are dull fetch quests, often with routes that go from A to B, from B back to A, then to C, back to A, then to C again. Nowadays you can do this better.
Gacha mechanics:
Since I’m a newcomer to the genre I can only say this much: it’s too much. All the items, the in-game shops that require a resource that functions exactly like premium currency in actual gacha games — except you earn it by playing. On top of that there are daily quests and weekly quests… in a single-player game? Why?!
Verdict:[h/2] Sometimes less is simply more. Dragonsword Awakening is packed with so much stuff I can only describe it as “screen noise.”
I really want to like this game because the premise of a gacha-like game without the actual gambling and FOMO elements is amazing, but I cannot give it a thumbs up yet. This game invites comparison to Genshin Impact at every step and sadly it does most of these things worse than it, at least in the beggining when its supposed to grab your attention. Right now this kinda is a case of a 'death by a thousand cuts'. You play this game, you enjoy what you see, the combat is nice, the character designs are nice. Everything should be correct when it comes to the 'main ingredients'. But then you discover the small things that just take away from the overall enjoyment: - the mount system being integrated into the game from the start and replacing things that in other open world games your character can do by default like climbing or gliding. you literally need to mount up to get over any small obstacle, because double jump, climb and all movement options were outsourced to a beetle (and yes it does look as stupid as it sounds) - the missing english voiceover combined with no subtitles for outside of cutscene chatter which makes you feel like you're not included in the conversation if you dont speak Korean - the game is also not in the best technical state as in the first hour of gameplay I've encountered multiple bugs such as not being able to pick up objects if im not playing as Lute or other characters getting stuck in 'lift' animation not being able to interact at all - overall lack of polish. The first act very much invites comparisons to genshin and sadly it loses them. the movement system is weaker because the mount system throws you out of the natural exploration loop, the story is a bit barren, the UI is a bit ugly, the font used for dialogue and quest text is a bit "basic" none of these things is a dealbreaker by itself, but the overall experience that I had when testing this game was "I kinda want to reinstall Wuthering Waves instead, because it's pretty much the same thing, but way more polished" the good thing is that all of this is fixable. and I really hope that in a few patches I will be able to come back and change this review. Right now Dragonsword: Awakening is this weird case of leaving a negative review, but not regretting buying the game, at least for me.
