It's always stunning to me when games do this, and FF14 is horrible about it to, but the class I picked had baked into the intro, add these skills to your bar and use them. Then, after the intro, those skills disappear. Why the flavored versions of basic attack skills need to be removed is beyond me, but they were, which means I go into the first mission post-tutorial not knowing I no longer have skills on my bar, because I replaced the ones that were there, the generic warrior ones, with the flavorful Dark Avenger ones. I've played MMOs since practically when I was born, Everquest, Guild Wars, WoW, et cetera. One of my least favorite parts is figuring out where to put things on my bars, especially when different classes have the same tools. I know where I want my silence, stun, speed boost, defensive abilities. I've used essentially the same list that's evolved only slightly in the last 10 years. What I don't want to do is enter battle and realize 'Oh, cool, the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me by making these abilities not usable anymore/removing them from my bar entirely because I didn't actually have access to them despite needing them to progress the tutorial. Minblowing levels of stupidity. Oh, and the chest just being for show in the Grand Temple of Return? I spent a good five minutes trying to loot the sparkling glowing chest, thinking I just hadn't pressed the 'loot' button yet, and only found that it wasn't lootable when I looked through the keybinds. Just more, baffling design from a game I remember having a lot of fun on as a kid, sluggishly crawling into the modern era. I wish the servers were closed so my memory would not have been tainted.
