Хорошо думслеер у бабушки отдохнул, своей жопой демонов давит
Over 30 hours into this game and I still do not really understand what the designers expect from me in combat. You need to block non-parriable attacks, but they break your shield, but you also need your shield to parry attacks. So you end up in a lot of situations where you just die without really feeling like you did anything wrong or can improve what you're doing. The only alternative is running away like a little ♥♥♥♥♥ and hiding (which doesn't really seem like something The Slayer would do). You also cannot interrupt melee attacks to parry, which is insane. Play Shadow of Mordor and tell me with a straight face that Doom Dark Ages has a more intuitive and sensible parry system, lol. The whole mantra behind the "combat loop" (still not convinced this game even has a cohesive combat loop) was "stand and fight", but if you do that you're literally dead. All the evasion mechanics of Eternal have been gutted out of this game. So, again, I'm not sure what the designers want from me in combat. If you try to evade, you basically just end up taking cover and hiding like a ♥♥♥♥♥. If you try to stand your ground, you just die. If you try to move around in combat, your shield will break and you'll encounter innumerable no-win-scenarios that give you nothing to learn from or improve on. It's like you need to keep moving in a game that, by its own stated design philosophy, is hostile to movement and evasion. Makes zero sense.
Alright so, game is probably fun and everything, but I wouldn't know, because it's a slideshow for me, and most normal gamers. Because this game has built-in raytracing that you thus, cannot turn off, because everything in this game is tied to raytraced calculations. Yes, you heard me right. For something that barely even changes the look of the game, for a lazy, certified microsoft moment, you will lose what is probably 70% of your performance. That is, unless you play using the latest NVIDIA GPU, which you decided to purchase by selling your house, your left kidney and your family to human trafficking. So AVOID, do NOT PLAY THIS GAME unless you have a NASA PC. So after putting every single possible graphic setting to the lowest, I somehow managed to reach 60-100 fps (keeps on going up and down). Which allowed me to play the game, just barely. Because it stutters like crazy and it looks like liquid ♥♥♥♥. And yeah, even on nightmare, it's the most boring, easy game I've ever played. This outrageous abomination is an insult to my love for the franchise, just like what call of duty and battlefield now are. DO NOT BUY, PLEASE. EVEN FOR 2 BUCKS.
DOOM: TDA's biggest sin isn't the complete shift in gameplay mechanics. Even though, the shield can feel a bit lackluster, I can't say the same for the spear. It's actually quite good. My only gripe with it is the fact the gun switching is quite slow and lowers down you shield/spear at the same time. The game's biggest sin is not the uninteresting story cutscenes and dumb plot either. It's also, suprisingly not the boring Kaiju fights or the Dragon riding, even if they feel so out of place here. We could argue that the music is not engaging, and that's Mick Gordon is terribly missed, but no, not even that. It's also not the fact the devs let you customize your own difficulty setting because they couldn't figure it out themselves. No, none of this. The game's biggest sin, far beyond everything else, is the fact that all "secrets" are displayed on the map from the get-go. This might seem like a nitpick, but bear with me. Secrets are supposed to be either found by suprise while playing, or while exploring. On the first or subsequent playthroughs. Finding a secret is meant to feel like a bonus. Like a little reward. But by displaying all the secrets location on the map, this shifts completely. Instead of being pleasantly surprised upon discovering the little gift that awaits you, you feel frustrated when you realise you just missed a secret and can't go back to look for it. So, you take the bad habit of constantly looking at your map just to make sure you didn't miss anything. This is so dumb, but since you kinda need to hunt those secrets because they hold most of the currency required to upgrade your stuff, you just can't help it. But because of this, the pace of the game is getting hammered and every level feels like a slog. Guess what? They didn't do that for the Revelations DLC, and it turns out it's much more enjoyable to play. Then, if you manage to find the courage to start the compagn over, you'll notice that not having to look for secrets constantly makes the game so much more enjoyable. To an extreme degree. Who would've guess that, encouraging the players to pause the game every couple of minutes, in a game that's about running and gunning demons, wasn't so great of an idea. In the end, I have to choose a thumb. Even if I leave aside the combat mechanics, the game is still a step down from both 2016 and Eternal. For some reason, they couldn't help but tried to fix things that weren't broken. They added boring gameplay sequences, a dumb story exposition through cutscenes one couldn't care less about, and decided to make the secrets not secrets. If you manage to resist the urge to constantly look at your map (or use a mod to remove those question marks), bear the uninteresting music, and skip the story cutscenes, I would argue the game is good. Great even. Sometimes, when everything clicks, it's even peak. But as is, I'm not so sure.
u will maybe get 60 fps at 480p with 5090
I like it almost as much as DOOM Eternal, especially with the DLC, which improves it significantly. It's a big shame what happened to the people who worked on this game. The performance is incredibly smooth, the gameplay is different yet familiar, and the DLC is excellent. It's definitely worth playing. I went for 100% completion, and it was incredibly enjoyable. I never felt like I was grinding or anything (other than the two masteries, but those aren't that big of an issue).
I have been playing DOOM since its shareware days and I did enjoy its "Dark Ages" theme. The scenery as with all recent DOOM games is top notch, and even with a lot on screen manages to run very smoothly. The music, one of my favorite aspects of the modern DOOM games is also top notch and keeps you pumped up for the constant action. This experience of course is basically linear and really becomes a run and gun. That said.... I miss creep and horror based DOOM. DOOM 3 for me was amazing. While I love the run and gun, if the dev ever came back with a solid horror based DOOM I would be the first to pre-prder.
Game is an easy 8/10 for its base game on immediate post-launch. With Update 2, max of 8.3. Post DLC however, 9.5/10. Absolutely wonderfully fun game, a perfect lovechild of Dark Ages and Eternal.
Best entry in the series, they really cooked here, absolute masterpiece. Visually insane, the art design and locations are so cool and the gameplay is perfect, the parry feeling with the shield is great and guns feel really nice. Just a banger. Now... The Revelations Expansion >>> Truly one of the best expansions I've ever played. It feels even bigger than the base game: more intense, lots of different combat encounters, and massive replayability. The spear is absolutely insane, because if you were already a godlike tank in the base game, now you're a godlike tank with wings and cocain3. It's so much fun. The fights in this expansion were also some of the only ones that genuinely had me on edge because of their intensity and difficulty, which made the game even more fun and challenging. Definitely a 10/10 expansion. They absolutely cooked here. I still say it, even more than before: Best DOOM EVER.
Love this game series, but most importantly I love you id Software forever <3
