DOOM: The Dark Ages

The Dark Ages has better boss fights than Eternal. It traded the weakness system in Eternal for parry mechanics. It's different, not worse than the previous title the same way Doom: Eternal is different than Doom (2016).

Incredible game. If Eternal was the evolution of Doom, then Dark Ages is like if they polished the original. It plays how I remember old school Doom in my head. It's slower and heavier than Eternal, the whole game feels chunky with a great sense of momentum. Though a few of the centrepiece gameplay segments can drag on a bit, the majority of the game feels great to play. They also gave up on trying to make the story serious, and it's much better off for it. This game reminds me of 90/00s PC shooters in all the good ways. If you like Doom in general, this game is excellent. Though if the fast paced combat was the only part of Eternal you liked I'd probably give this a miss.

Although I really tried to hate this game, with its seemingly forced emphasis on close combat, limited ammo, and even more RPG elements than previous DOOM games, i ended up really enjoying it. I still prefer the more old-school, straightforward shooter style, but the story presentation is much deeper this time, and it kept me engaged throughout. Definitely worth playing, even if you’re skeptical like I was.

This game is astounding and I had an absolute blast playing it. After how horrible The Ancient Gods content was in Eternal this felt really refreshing to play. Revelations is also probably some of the best DOOM content ever. ♥♥♥♥ Microsoft for firing half of id Software that move was really, really ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I do 100% recommend this game though it's been the most fun I had in a while. Also the OST despite not being Mick Gordon is also really good and the team behind it did much better compared to what The Ancient Gods dlc's had so props there as well. I did miss Mick Gordon's touch but the music in this game is still phenomenal. ^^

Great action, mechanics and distinct from Doom Eternal in a good way.

With the DLC now out I can confidently say, this is better than Eternal. BFG 10,000 outta 10
