If you love shoot ‘em up and you love ‘em hard, with glorious music, with screen filling bullet patterns and huge token cancels, then Don’yoku is just for you!

I really wanted this game to be good - I'm big shmup fan and the style of this game is isnteresting, WWI fighters and tanks and all other stuff with anime like characters. When I saw this game I was sold imediately but the reality is that Don'Yoku is done poorly, even the main menu looks like a joke. Rebinding keys is a struggle, I used joy2key. The gameplay is not good either. First of all it doesnt run very smooth. The music after some time feels annoying. On the positive side the mechanic of getting this bomb like attacks is cool and I really like it. The patterns and bossses are ok. Im really pissed about this game because if it was done better I'm sure I would love Don'Yoku.
Good Shmup, bullet hell style.

Great shmup! DonYoku is a cool shooter in the vein of DoDonPachi and Gunbird. I enjoy playing it.
When it comes to oldschool styled games, I am very picky; this game looks like a direct port from a 90s arcade machine. I'm also very picky about bullet hell games; this game was very bullety, and very hellish.
The game itself is quite fun, but very hard, but fun. Actually looks pretty good in my native res of 2560x1080, quite surprised honestly. Now the bad, the controls are wierd, WADS? and only D-pad control? like already pointed out, not being able to use the analog stick or a fight stick is very odd since the developers did put a lot of time and love into this, why did they not include that? I got it for $2, definitely worth it, but not the full retail price. I LOVE ShmUPs, and this a good one for my library but I sure am glad I waited, after playing it it not worth any more than $5, so just be patient and wait for a good deal. IF the controls were better(more options) I'd give it a 4/5, but as it stands its a 3/5. Its due to the controls I can't recommend it, maybe there will be a patch then I'll definitely change my recommendation, but until that time, its a no go.
First it was trying to get controls to work and then once that was done it was bosses glitching out and the level just continually running and nothing happening. It was that could have been fun but the issues overtake the fun. Plus the sound is horrible. Explosions sound like blown out speakers.Sorry but cannot recommend this game.
Don'Yoku is a retro pixel Japanese arcade ported 2D vertical scrolling bullet hell shmup with a WW1 theme. Choose between one of three pilots and play through waves of enemies and bosses in a very typical arcade style gameplay experience. The port is done badly. Controls are fixed, unintuitive, and can't be remapped (I couldn't even find the fire button). Graphics are ugly, retro pixel with a very tight 9:16 aspect ratio (ugh). Resolution is fixed and can't be changed. The devs added pointless art to pad the game out to 16:9, but the active real estate for the game is a postage stamp. Too many technical issues and deficiencies to warrant the $6 price tag, let alone a recommendation from me.
