Djinn is an exploration-focused game that also incorporates action, platforming, and light puzzles. Despite its challenging old-school style with roguelite elements, it doesn't punish you by making you lose the inventory items upon death, allowing for steady progression. It's crucial to collect notes that unveil the story, lore, and environment's secrets as you explore and face off against various enemies and even some bosses. Resource management is also key, as you'll need to find and strategically use items to maintain your health, stamina, and sanity as you immerse further into this adventure.

Oman's 19th-century golden age, crossroads of trading routes, began to crumble under the weight of a new and terrifying threat. The once vibrant markets fell silent, replaced by a chilling emptiness and whispers. By 1840, with malevolent forces rising from the darkness and magicians weaving their deceptive schemes, the Sultan was forced to abandon his homeland. He relocated his capital to Zanzibar in Africa, leaving the Sultanate to face a future shrouded in fear and uncertainty.

Experience the unsettling story as you progress through the realm of the unknown, wielding your weapons against creatures from this world and beyond. Learn how to survive in an ever-changing environment, where the very land itself can be your enemy and every shadow hides a threat. Define your own path – explore and scavenge for resources to overcome the trials.

“Djinn - The Forbidden Knowledge” offers multiple endings, each open to your interpretation and imagination. If you pay close attention to detail as the story unfolds, you will discover new answers and unlock a more profound understanding of the narrative.

The game features a range of settings (see Screenshot 13) to customize your experience for both quality and performance. However, some of the settings change dynamically to increase your immersion and simulate your psychological and physical state, such as: FOV (80°- 90°), Camera Shake, DOF, Vignettes and Sound Levels (SFX and Music).

Its multiple endings offer great replay value, and the eerie world will keep you coming back for more. Dive in if you dare, and uncover the secrets of the forbidden knowledge!
The game harkens back to older times with its animation and graphics, but I like the style and setting very much. I really like the amount of endings you can achieve and while i did see others say it was open world, I didn't expect it to be as big as it was. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a spooky atmosphere, retro graphics and some decent exploration!
the jump scares in this game are awesome its a must try if you like horror type games even better with no lights on while playing
I use translations, so there may be some mistranslations. The atmosphere is wonderful. Earphones and headphones recommended. It has a good old-fashioned throwaway feel, and in terms of trial and error, it could be called a roguelike of today. In terms of sound, the difference between silence and background music adds color to the atmosphere. The sound effects also add to the atmosphere. The gimmicks are well presented and fun. Some may say that it is often unreasonable. That is because it is a distorted world and the effects of djinn, etc., in this world increase visibly when the SAN value decreases. It is the same with the screen wobbling or being sent flying. If you know how fun it is to complete tasks, you will have fun pioneering. If you don't like repetition, it's not for you. This may be a common issue with roguelikes and the like. The problem is that the emphasis is on atmosphere and the option-related text is difficult to discern? The crosshairs when held in position seem to have been intentionally erased. Then there is the problem that a thrusting sword can kill a snake, but a sword swung down from above cannot kill a snake. I hope there is some intention behind this, but... It is only in English, so if you can only speak Japanese, you have to do your best while translating. I'm the same way. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the goodness of not being on a straight path since I had not played horror in an open world very often. The blog has a separate but similar review in Japanese. With photos. A simple play guide was made in Japanese.
Other than the game being confusing I think it would be worth playing considering how different and open it is. You kinda have to just figure things out on your own though. Like learn from mistakes to see what you need to avoid. I was told I had to destroyed 3 spells and i burnt 4 spell pages and wasnt sure if anything really happened or if I had to get more. I also played this game once a couple months ago and the game at the beginning seems a whole lot different. Felt like I was starting a whole new game or maybe I just went a different direction then last time. The main thing with this game is you have to figure everything out yourself even the key binds. I had to look in the settings for a few things. I want a game to explain things to me while I'm playing the game. I dont wanna have to read it in the menu. For a indie game I think it has decent graphics and decent audio. The game isnt AMAZING but it isn't unplayable either. Think I'll try to stream it sometime soon! As I am curious about how a game like this ends. Also the first time I played the game had a lot of stuff for you to read to kinda figure out what happened. And the second time i played barley had anything to read not sure if it was because I played previously and it saved these journal entries. But I never like a game that has way too much to read.
It just takes so long to get to the good stuff in this game. I like the promise of the multiple endings - I liked the couple of endings that I found - however the interiors feel like mazes, walking the desert is painfully slow, too many items that I interacted with were either pointless or Djinn's tricks, and having low sanity is really obnoxious. Having low sanity kind of just ruins the atmosphere for the most part with lots of random scary sound effects playing constantly, and you can't really avoid getting low sanity pretty much infinitely with how many random, sometimes invisible, encounters just keep it down. Not enough items to restore your stats vs. how many items deplete them. I wanted to like it, it has promise. It's too rough around the edges. EDIT: I never used the Teleview ability and that's my bad. That might have made some aspects of the game a lot more fun, but I don't even think that had much to do with my complaints honestly.
