Better than WoW
The void has many doors, and you have stepped through another. If you wish to walk this path with eyes unclouded, turn back now, for ahead lie truths of a fate yet unwritten, exposing the secrets of those who hide in the shadows. The choice is yours, as it always is. (In other words this is a spoiler warning.) After enduring the agonizing, soul-crushing trial of completing every single Dunwall City Trials achievement in the first game, I needed a full year-long break from this franchise to heal my broken completionist soul. I frequently wish I lacked the obsessive urge to 100% video games. Those specific challenge maps truly took a massive toll on my sanity. Returning to this dark universe felt daunting, but Dishonored 2 immediately reminded me why I fell in love with Dunwall in the first place. The original story followed Corvo Attano, the Royal Protector who was framed for the murder of his secret lover, Empress Jessamine Kaldwin. He tore through a plague-ridden city using supernatural gifts to save their young daughter, Emily Kaldwin, and restore his own child to the throne. This sequel leaps forward fifteen years, where an older Corvo and an adult Empress Emily find themselves betrayed during a sudden coup by a mysterious witch claiming to be Jessamine's long-lost sister. Forced to choose which character to control, you flee south to the coastal jewel of Karnaca to unravel the conspiracy and reclaim your stolen empire. The sheer replay value packaged into this otherwise linear, story-focused campaign is absolutely staggering and puts other modern titles to shame. Having two entirely distinct protagonists with their own unique supernatural movesets completely changes how you navigate the vertical architecture of the world, and the immaculate level design masterfully accommodates both playstyles. You can approach any single objective in so many radically different, emergent ways that the freedom feels almost unreal, making you feel like a creative genius. The environment itself morphs dynamically based on your body count through the chaos system. Choosing a high-chaos bloodbath litters the streets with nests of deadly bloodflies that feed on corpses, darkens the weather, and makes NPCs increasingly hostile and paranoid. For the ultimate purist test, the game legitimately lets you reject the Outsider's mark entirely at the very beginning, allowing you to play through the whole campaign with zero powers using only your sword, gadgets, and raw stealth wits. Karnaca itself is a triumph of artistic world-building, trading the bleak, grey whale-oil aesthetic of Dunwall for a sun-drenched, dust-swept Mediterranean paradise. It is a gorgeous setting defined by dream-like, warm color palettes that contrast beautifully with the visceral, gory violence staining its streets if you choose the lethal path. Viktor Antonov, the legendary visual visionary behind the first game's iconic look, served as a consultant here before his tragic passing. A truly monumental loss to the entire gaming industry. However, Sébastien Mitton, who stepped up as full art director, did a splendid job mimicking Antonov’s stark, industrial vision while breathing a distinct, wind-powered identity into this new southern city. The audio design matches this visual grandeur perfectly, delivering highly atmospheric, subtle music and ambient environmental noises that pull you deep into the humid, tense coastal air. The star-studded voice acting cast took me completely by surprise, especially hearing the unmistakable voice of Pedro Pascal as the ruthless Howler gang leader, Paolo, alongside Vincent D'Onofrio, who lends his commanding presence to the corrupt Duke Luca Abele. Arkane Lyon elevates the experience with an elite tier of chapters that stand out as absolute masterpieces of interactive level design. The first is The Clockwork Mansion, created by the eccentric and arrogant inventor Kirin Jindosh, which features a shifting mechanical layout where pulling brass levers physically rearranges the walls, floors, and ceilings in real-time. This forces you to navigate hidden crawlspaces behind moving rooms while dodging terrifying, lethal clockwork soldiers that can spot you from behind. The second standout is a magnificent time-bending mansion where you use a handheld timepiece to peer into and actively step between a ruined present and a decadent past. It is best not to overthink the time traveling lorewise, because the narrative ramifications collapse if you pause to analyze the temporal logic. For example, if you save Aramis Stilton from his descent into madness, he seemingly uses his position to make his entire mining district a vastly better place in the new timeline. Yet, despite years of a completely rewritten history, his estate is still completely barricaded and isolated in the altered present, even though it was originally blocked off solely because he went crazy in the first place. Furthermore, the massive external world events somehow still play out almost exactly to a tee, completely ignoring the massive butterfly effects your past actions should have caused. Instead of stress-testing the sci-fi logic, just appreciate it as a mechanically jaw-dropping level that executes a complex gimmick with effortless elegance. Equally brilliant is the third special mention mission, The Grand Palace, centered around Duke Luca Abele. The visual storytelling here is spectacular, juxtaposing a blindingly white, staggeringly opulent, modern mansion right up against the dire, decaying state of the impoverished Serkonos people below. Mechanically, the mission is phenomenal because there are two targets in the mansion. The real Duke and his identical body double. You must scour the palace for clues to deduce who is who, a task made even better by the fact that their true identities and physical locations on the map are completely randomized every single time you play, making it a masterpiece of replayable stealth. While the gameplay loop and level design are nearly perfect, the overarching narrative structure is admittedly a bit strange. The main antagonist, Delilah, was already the core villain of the first game's Daud DLC expansions. It feels deeply odd to have an antagonist who was fully dealt with in side-content DLC suddenly recycled as the grand, overarching threat of a mainline sequel. It feels a bit like Emperor Palpatine's sudden return, forcing us to go waste her all over again once and for all. Despite that slightly recycled plot hook, I had an absolute blast from start to finish. Unlike its predecessor, which left a bitter taste due to those brutal trials, Dishonored 2 left me fully satisfied, deeply impressed, and genuinely eager to jump straight into the final entry of the series, Death of the Outsider.

keep it a buck its not as good as 1
The game is good. But it's no where near as good as the first one. The major issues I have are that the game feels a bit overwhelming compared to the first game. All the areas feel the exact same. It doesn't feel like you have as many ways of dealing with encounters as the first game. Some of the runes are cryptic as hell to get.
Not as good as the first game in terms of story, but still great in gameplay
