Wow
This game doesn't need my endorsement. This is the best game of the first quarter of the 21st century. While American AAA studios were spending hundred of millions of dollars to make schlocky casinos, a group of alcoholic Estonians snuck into the industry and said: hey, what if games meant something. This isn't even the best game of the first quarter of the 21st century; it'll be remembered as one of the most meaningful pieces of literature of the 21st century. The average playthrough is five novels long. Ready to read five novels? They're really good novels.
Прошел три раза, годнота невероятная. Лучше уже не будет.
It's all disco baby
Disco Elysium is one of those games that show how video games can be more than mere entertainment. Video games are a medium. A powerful one. They can deliver ideas. Thoughts. Emotions. They can be a living, interactive, and deeply profound pieces of Art. This is not an ordinary game. Don’t expect a lot of mechanics and reflexes. But rather a meditative narrative about the world we live in. The systems, flawed and broken. The human beings living beneath. It’s more like an interactive novel, heavy with dialogue choices. Very interesting ones. It invites you to read and think. Reflect on how the city of Revachol is a projection of our own world. A world that moves on despite all its flaws. On how humans, broken and devastated, keep on living. Loving. Finding hope where none seems to exist. What really stands out in this piece of art is the writing. It’s so well written that, throughout my playthrough, I kept thinking of the immense efforts the writers made. Every dialogue, every thought, every little sentence or paragraph feels meaningful. It either adds to the story of the city, the personal story of the protagonist (or that of the others), or the general atmosphere of the game’s world. The art style adds a lot to the general sense of the city. The city is damaged. You can feel it aching. It is broken and utterly devastated. Yet somehow beautiful. You can’t really say how, but it is. Just like the world we live in. I recommend this game, but it’s not for everyone. It’s for those willing to read and reflect. For those who appreciate games as art. It’s a shame that this game was stolen from its original creators by greedy corporate fraudulents. Ironically, this is precisely one of the aspects the game points to. The rich seeking more revenue, destroying anything in their way.
